Imagine if Theodore Roosevelt or Frederik Selous we’re dragged from the grave and signed in on here. God I’d kill to have a drink with either of those men. Different times of course but the sense of adventure that inspired them remains. In the US or Africa there’s every bit as much justification for hunting serious apex predators as we have in the uk with deer. But I’m not having that argument on here. Lol Fair play though everyone has their own mind and motivations.

This guy was legit as they come.

Yeah, read about them and Corbett's man eaters of India. Different times, never to be seen again. A little known bowhunter, Paul Schaffer, lived an interesting life. Amongst many other tales, he was part of the bowhunting trials for the Zim' Government when they were trying to decide if they wanted to legalise bowhunting. He used his own handmade recurve bows and took buff' and lion under observation. In fact he took one lioness off the back of his mate during an attack! The fella was the real deal.

The only way to do it satisfactorily would be to be the PH. Pay your dues and years later wait for that day when a client fucks up and you get to pit your wits against the master of ambush.

I dunno about rabbit's with shivs but if you're looking for volunteers for bears, lions and what not then put me on the list. The only factor in this for me personally is money. If I die in my thirties leopard hunting in the bushveld or whatever then I'll have lived and died true to myself. f**k what anyone else thinks.

The 345 rule that tradesmen often use comes from the Pythagoras theorem, yeah. The theorem can be used in many more ways but the 345 rule is one solution/product of it.

I sort of agree but it's complicated. I mean the more data you get the more rigorous the conclusions are likely to be, so roughly time equals confidence. Under normal circumstances the research wouldn't have moved this quick and would have had time to be chewed on a bit. I personally think what's being done is largely good stuff but I agree that 'thinking time' rarely makes things worse in research. Even in the unlikely event that it all turns out to be completely wrong, the work was fair given the urgency and limited data imo. My old boss used to say "I need to walk the dog with this", h

@Greyman Found someone else's work on the same point. So this is what we see published on whatever and sometimes the media erroneously reference. Just basic case numbers, what an analyst might refer to as 'raw data'. But like you said a while back they're increasing testing volume which logically will lead to more positives even if there's not actually an increased number of infections. Well here's that data and as we can see the "second wave" don't look half as bad.... Which you can see has a similar trend to deaths, which gives a bit of confidence that we're now re

Aye but when will yours?

At some point in recent history the media stopped employing news reporters and started employing news commentators.... there's a very significant difference between the two. Proper investigative journo's who risk life and limb to out corruption and injustice and tell the stories of little known heroes are cornerstones of democracy, but these days society would rather just listen to some polished piece of shit who's never left their safe little box spout their comforting opinions.

Max, we know fine well by now what you think. What we're struggling with is why you think the window cleaner's anecdotes has more weight than all the actual lifelong scientists working on this.... I'll hazard a guess it has something vaguely to do with common sense and sheep. yawn....
-
Max, you're missing the point. You made the claim that the pandemic is exaggerated because there wasn't a spike because you were seeing the world was 'back to normal' with the examples of packed cafes etc. The 'fiction' was the claim that the country was back to normal, not that you saw a cafe packed out. Most the rest of the country is not allowing that and is far from 'back to normal'. Despite all that, there's still been the spike you wanted to see. But I doubt that will change your mind, just refocus you on your other delusions.
-
I don't think you were told it was fiction, you were told that the country wasn't "back to normal" like you were claiming. You were also using that claim to justify your assertion that there should be a spike in infections and that it's all bollocks because there wasn't.... Lo and behold....

Not shooting, just dogging in, but today is 'glorious' for us lower classes. Lol

I think Pythagoras theorem is what you're looking for. That's upside down for you of course but 'b' being the length you want to know, right? So solving for 'b' means you have to calculate the square root of the difference between 'a' squared and 'c' squared. That's the technical answer. The right answer though, is Balaur's.
-
Also, I read a thing earlier that when you correct UK case numbers for testing volume there isn't anywhere near as much of a second wave as the raw numbers are having folks believe. You touched on that a few weeks ago. I tried to get hold of the data to replicate it for myself but couldn't easily find it.

I'm not angry with you, lol. You post alternative theories and sceptic stuff. That's fine by me and important. I just got mad with the fella because I thought he was being very sloppy. Yeah, that was exactly what he was saying. Except I would say that you can't conclude that Imperials modelling was 12 times out for Sweden, as their modelling was for a 'do absolutely nothing' scenario, when in fact they did quite a lot. I can believe that there is a better way than lockdown, lockdown is an act of desperation, Sweden might have even got it right, but we can't compare that 'do nothing'
-
It might not come as a surprise that I only managed 4mins. LOL He's trying to destroy the credibility of Imperials modelling because they predicted 85k deaths in Sweden if they did not take any pandemic countermeasures and as we know the deaths to date in Sweden is 12 times less than that. But I'll say again, Sweden didn't do nothing, so that comparison is completely flawed. Frankly I was too pissed off with him by this point to continue listening. If he addressed this let me know and I'll give him another shot. That said, of course, with hindsight we can optimise COVID strategies an

My boss did the power management calculations for the Beagle 2 mars mission. He reckons he gave it a 50% chance of success at the time, his little claim to fame. Not exactly Space Force commando in the bug wars though....
-
Sorry to hear that, mate. I get the impression that you are a resourceful guy though so I expect it'll not knock you back too much. All the best.
-
I've never really known what 'the dream' is, still don't. But if I was to start over, and with hindsight, I think ten years in the forces and then train as a PH in Africa would probably suit me. I'm generally of the opinion that working for a living is shit no matter the flavour. You just have to find the best deal and mould your mindset to a more positive one.

I have experimentally verified this...... by accident. SL, listen to this man. I never f****d about with seating depth after I was advised to try the standard "touching lands or just off". It worked and I got bored. lol. Before that advice though
