Stars in the sky: a hunting story Steve Rinella at his best!

With outdoor clothing money isn't really a factor for me. But then I'm not doing 100 quid a week on beer and fags or got 500 a month finance on a flash car or whatever like a lot of lads do. I've been disappointed with the performance of economy priced clothing too often to worry about parting with a few hundred quid every few years tbh mate. Everyone prioritises different stuff in their lives.

Never bothered me really. It does get into your skin though. Takes some scrubbing to get out so on that front I'd not knock anyone for gloving up. All the f***ing regulation bollocks though is nauseating. You'll need a f***ing degree to take a shit soon. The lad that got a gob full was like you though, his lip would curl at the first cut! Teach the f****r to pay attention!
-
I used to do the slice and flick method and got a townie mate square in the gob. f**k me dead we howled at him alternating between spewing and spitting! Doubt the meat hygiene folks would’ve been impressed.

Giving the Swazi a spin this season. No comments yet other than I wish the sleeves were an inch longer.

Absolutely not surprised.

The executive branch of government (what we in the UK call 'the government') is only part of the power pie these days. The bureaucracy, the fourth estate (media), the education establishment and corporations are all serious players and some are very Left. The PM's office doesn't have total control, not even close really.

I’ll be watching this develop. Planning on coming down the M5 tomorrow

The Russians can't quite field anything like this, they have different naval doctrine tbh. The Chinese are working up to it but comfortably behind us I'd say. The French are respectable and seasoned but arguably inferior in this instance. And the yanks are our mates, thank f**k. No doubt we have issues but I'm willing to put praise where it's due. -

I think this is f***ing awesome. Nearly there and not a moment too soon. Full disclosure; there are a couple of foreign warships in there and half the 35s are USMC. No doubt things are far from rosy with respect to the future of the UK military or politics but given we are trying to walk the path of independence again I genuinely believe this big stick is a good thing. -
Yeah, some insecure f****r is going to have a breakdown. LOL. It's not a badge of honour to me mind. Just is what it is. You know what I mean though. In any of our little worlds you're bound to know a few lads who are respected and have more than just a couple of dogs about. They might need those dogs for their work or they might just be hell bent on their hunting but they're the lads who you want to be mates with so you don't have to chance something off the internet. I'm not talking about celebrities and heroes, just your run of the mill 'dogmen'. LOL
-
I suppose at it's very simplest good dogmen are the ones folks want dogs off.
-
To me a 'dogman' is simply someone who is defined/known by their dogs. Working and producing quality animals is what they dream about and they want to be known for it, they want it to define who they were on this Earth. At the extreme their dogs are everything to them and good dogmen are everything to working dog. Whereas a 'sportsman' or 'hunter', or whatever, may have a good bit of 'dogman' about them but they're no more defined by what's in their kennel than they are by what's in the gun cabinet. They're really defined by their hunting as a whole. A good sportsman may need to be a good

I think perhaps we need to be careful confusing fair competition with fair chase.
-
I happened by it on FB recently. Its mental the risks some are taking.
-
Woah! So you’re telling me that ???? isn’t like top secret uncypherable dogman code?
-
I guess were all looking for a different thing when we go into the field. I'm not judging anyone. I think talk of 'liabilites' possibly confused me.
-
Fair one. Perhaps that's all that needs saying.
-
I just think the most important thing is to remember this shit is supposed to be fun, lol. If your standards are so high or specific you'd rather pack up than settle then what a shame.
-
And that's fair enough. I just don't value that 'gameness' exclusively or significantly above other traits. Any dog that displays any trait to an extreme level is nice to witness, but I want to see optimal balance ultimately. But I'm not a 'dogman', I'm a 'hunter'. They're not exclusive terms but it's the only way I can think to explain it. I genuinely don't see what a head banging lunatic brings to anything tbh. I've seen every ounce of that drive (when it matters) in dogs that aren't liabilities or particularly hard work. At what point do you have 'enough' and start worrying about
-
I sometimes wonder if lads are out to kill stuff or if they just want to see a display of extreme drive/commitment. Thats not a slight to anyone.
-
I totally understand what you're saying but do you not think you've let your standards completely destroy your sport? It takes a f**k ton of dedication and sacrifice to produce a premier league kennel with anything, and it does take a kennel, one dog gives you no redundancy and you're just waiting for the day it's all over. With lurchers and terriers it also likely requires no neighbours these days. The only lads I know who can do that live well out of the urban sprawl of even villages. I've not got that dedication, my dogs enable me to enjoy my sport but I'm never likely contributing shi

He tried, but it bit him too and he ran off! Its running the joint now.
