  1. My hope for season coming up, nice 3/4 caught single handed yesterday, important he also has a decent nose.
  2. Im with Argos, spoke to a lad this week whos Springer broke its leg, not insured, he reckons it cost him about a grand from start of treatment to Finnish.
  3. Here you go, brand new Mick Dadd, mark 1 collar.
  4. Im also retired, not nice what happened to you, hopefully these Guys will have moved on, and not be back on your ground. Have to agree, its not worth fighting them over a rabbit, you could have ended up severely hurt, you dont know what could have happened. Hope you get over this and enjoy your retirement the same as myself.
  5. On the subject of marking Dogs, the best i ever had was a Whippet x Beddy, she would mark a bury with a slight tilt of her head, then sit behind the bury waiting for the bolt, no noise making, a very quiet canny Bitch. If there was no bolt, and the knocking box was brought out, she would move on, when finishing up at the bury, you would find her lying behind the next occupied bury in total silence. this little Bitch put a lot of Rabbits in the bag, when anyone seeing her work they were well impressed, i would never have sold her, the only thing is when they pass away, they are seriously miss
  6. I like the old Cumbrian lingo, and the names they gave some of their Terriers, that famous old dog Chowt faced rock is a good example.
  7. Once these double peggers close, there is no escape.
  8. Every ferreter should Carry a few poke nets in his bag, for those awkward places, especially good for tree trunks.
  9. i had a Whippet x Greyhound that knocked a toe up, first it went to the vet who cut the nail to the quick, causing it to bleed, then Bone radiol was applied, i took him to a top greyhound man, who owned open racers, he was one of the first to have a lazer, he had a course of treatment. but everytime he ran the toe bothered him, so in the end it was removed. dont know if it was the pressure of having a toe off this foot, as he later knocked up another on the same foot, and he wasn't being run on hard ground, maybe he just hadn't good feet, one reason i got him was to use him on my Bedlingto
  10. Many years ago i was invited out on a Grouse moor in winter with the Buccleuch Keepers, my dog at the time was a Whippet X Greyhound, first time id run Blue Hares, he caught five that day, good sport, but a lot easier than the old Brown. He was 23 inches.
  11. Just recently mentioned this on another post, find the furthest corner they are shitting in. Buy two cheap Cat litter trays, screw one to the floor, i just use one screw through the middle, and the other fits on top, this stops them shifting the tray, four handful's of woodbased cat litter, you just need to empty it once a week, only takes a few mins.
  12. There are still a few Bedlingtons doing what they were bred for, you just need to know where to look. There are Lads on The Working Bedlington terrier forum, that are working there dogs below ground, and there appears a good crop of pups of workers, that will be put through their paces.
  13. Had this cheeky visitor in the rockery in front of the house.
  14. The Lurcher that Claud Greengrass had on Heartbeat, was a Bedlington X Greyhound, The Bedlington Sire was Newcombes Blue, there you go some useless information.
  15. I have worked beddy X Greyhound bitch bred from G.Newcombes Blue, Also Whippet X Bedlington, And Whippet X whippet X Bedlington, All handy crosses, especially when Rabbits are your main quarry, Beddy X Whippets appear quite difficult to find, maybe with working Whippet pups making £350 to £400,although on the Working whippet forum a whippet at stud has lined a Beddy Bitch.pups should be due soon.
  16. Fair enough, Shavings is not a problem for me also, my two use the litter tray, and i find the cat litter soaks up everything really well, and they dont scrape it out, and at £3 a bag, lasts for ages. But if shavings is what you want to use, then it will be okay, its just another idea. Once a week i lift out the tray, empty into a bin bag replace with four handfulls of cat litter, takes mins, jobs done.
  17. All good comments, just keep things simple, I would do away with the digging area, find a corner where you think they will do their business, buy two cheap cat litter trays, screw one down, and the other fits inside, stops them dragging it. Buy a bag of wood based cat litter, if your lucky they will use it. I just use wood shavings for bedding, And as been said, get some weld mesh for the fronts.
  18. Happy memories, i remember years ago being on a tributary of my local salmon River, when i saw the otterhounds, they were working a pool I was sitting at, if i remember right the terriers did look like borders,, after swimming round the pool, they moved on, i sat for half an hour, happened to have a snare in my pocket, and checked out the tree roots under water on the flat,up from the pool.. nearly every root had a Salmon tail sticking out, had a great day. I could be wrong but i think the pack were quite well known the Dumfrieshire otterhounds.
  19. I reckon your Ferts will no want tay come oot, in them cauld winter days, when staying in 5 star accommodation. What happened to the good auld days when ferts lived in cramped conditions and were fed a good diet of breed and milk, When are ye coming South tae buid me yin.
  20. Are Rabbits not classed as Vermin, therefore they are not game, Pre ban I used to walk up the road back to my village carrying a Hare, have ferreted over 40 years, and lamped, snared and longnetted. I have never once been stopped by Police.
  21. Yes he makes mark1 collars, this is one, workwise they are excellent.
  22. Border lad, as you know there are still big long leggit Borders being used that work the hill, and will run all day, these are the type i would use, i wouldn't. bother with the trial dogs. i knew one farmer who looked after a top trial dog, for six months, said it was clever, but did not have the stamina of his other collies on the hill.
  23. same here, I know a lot of Fermers who keep big leggy Borders that work the hill, all you need is a Greyhound bitch and a bottle of Whiskey for a stud fee, Beats going to Hancock, but then you have a Greyhound Bitch, who deserves a good life.
