  1. Maybe its just me, but why would you class a dog with quarter greyhound as being a whippet.
  2. As the non ped racing whips, are basically bred to get to a to b as quick as possible How would you find them in the field, they are meant to be faster on the track than a ped, but ped whippets appear to have good stamina for a whippet, and many have excellent nose, an important feature for a rabbiting dog.
  3. £45 i paid, i keep saying this, why is there not a set price for this op nationally.
  4. Its not as easy as that, in Greyhound breeding, a lot of Sprinters produced stayers or distance dogs, and vice versa, and stayers producing mainly sprinters.
  5. Strange thing Genetics, Ballyregan Bob and his famous rival, Scurlogue Champ, apparently they were both a let down at stud, One of the great stud greats Monalee champion, was not a top class racer, i think he won opens, but no big stuff.
  6. I really like the look of the fawn, was it bred locally in Cumbria?
  7. Couple of old photos of top class rabbit dogs, first one first cross Whippet Bedlington, and second her Daughter Whippet X Whippet Bedlington.
  8. Totally agree with Border Lad, Years ago before the internet, we all knew who kept lurchers in our area, who had the good Dogs and also the not so good, we all saw each others Dogs run plenty times. Litters were bred for your own use, with no stud fee, the stud owner receiving pick of the litter. Pups were then given to friends or sold locally, for a modest sum, regarding the stud Dog and brood Bitch they would have been seen working numerous times, not once or twice.
  9. Give me a plain old normal Ferret, medium size, off good working parents, thats all you need to tackle Rabbits in the UK.
  10. My hob was £45, which is cheap when you see what others have paid, even at that price you are getting the hob for £20, I would go for him.
  11. I have two mark1s and the new mark 3, maybe its just me, but i prefer the old mark 1s
  12. That Bitch of yours is my type of Dog, she looks a wee cracker.
  13. I remember being out for a mooch years ago, when I noticed Rabbits bolting from a flood banking, thinking it was a Stoat I went to investigate, when out came a Jill polecat Fert She didn't bite, and I to carried her home, turned out to be a cracken worker, hope you have the same.
  14. If your pup will be getting bone, i wouldn't see the need to give plenty Calcium, My Whippet is 13 Months, ive not long cut out the middle meal, He gets two raw Chicken wings for breakfast, and an evening meal of a pound of minced Beef or Chicken, a good handful of small biscuit, and raw Carrot and spinach, and Keepers mix twice a week.
  15. Had my first Lurcher 1968, in South west Scotland in my area never heard of anyone hunting Foxes with lurchers, and never heard of anyone lamping, Hare was the main quarry, followed by rabbit in daylight, Most Dogs here, were collie crosses and Lurcher to Lurcher matings, Dogs with a bit of Deerhound in them were also popular. Saluki, and Bedlingtons were rare, and I never saw any Bull crosses. The taking of Foxes with Lurchersi think started here, when Lamping kicked off.
  16. The problem is, if you go away for a few days or on holiday, and you have to use kennels, they wont accept the Dog unless its boosters, and kennel cough vaccine are up to date.
  17. I just get the local pet shops own make, very similar make up to James Beloved but a lot cheaper, First time they had it, just put some in a bowl, next Morning it was empty.
  18. If their hungry they will eat it, I like to keep things simple, Winter when they are no flies, they get Rabbit, summer they get a ferret complete.
  19. Galloway game fair, there is nothing there, you can walk round it in 15 mins.
  20. I have a net curtain, but the buggers still manage to sneak in.
