Last nights job was a hen killer. Arrived at my mates place before dark and headed off to his mates parents smallholding which consists of 4 paddocks to recce the job. I decided the best spot was on top of a barn which gave a good field of view and provided safety. The landowner provided some ladders and up we climbed. Started the caller with hare distress and 15 mins later a fox showed up ? it was cautious but eventually presented a shot which my mate took , the fox was a runner but expired after a 30 yard dash. It turned out to be a dog cub which had a canine missing and also a rotten molar

Maybe , therefore it is important that you talk to people . I know it's not easy as I am a lone wolf and cant stand most people but you can talk always talk to your family.

We all feel down at times and have shit going on but I don't understand how suicide is the answer , it is selfish especially for the kids left behind. I suppose it boils down to who has the strongest will in my opinion......either give up or fight on .

I've had a couple out of hollow oak trees , in fact last week I clipped one and it went into a hollow so I got a stick and poked inside and the squirrel shot out sharpish but I managed to bag it.

Well there is no meat in the freezer for Bert and I don't want him going hungry so popped out for some bunnies even though it's a full moon as when I left it was covered by cloud and it looked ok. On arrival at the ground the bloody clouds disappeared, the moon came out and it was like daylight with not a breath of wind. Not many rabbits about , no wonder ? anyway plodded on and couldn't believe I ended up with 10. Bert wont go hungry tomorrow ?

Out with Bert this morning for an hour , still a bit warm and place very quiet . Only saw 3 pheasants but luckily Bert flushed this one in range ?

I would walk those pheasants off that are in the rape field on the boundary and shoot as many as possible ??

300 is some going Mr Sausage ?wish I had them numbers to go after I've only had 36 so far. I only shoot them with my 12g , love it it's great fun , running on the ground or up trees ?

They breed all year round now , bolted younguns in January before. -
Disgusts me to think anyone would use disease to control an animal population...even the humble rabbit , the countryside would be a sadder place without them. I used to shoot rabbits in the Borders where there was literally thousands until keepers dropped RHD and literally wiped out a 10 mile valley overnight. Very sad state of affairs ?

Went mooching today and had another mixed bag. Ended up talking to a fisherman on the river for a good hour and he was telling me he caught his best salmon last year at this spot 26lb, and showed me the pics to prove it ? Carried on my quest of clearing up spent cartridges, its getting addictive.
