  1. Well my mate was on the phone today and he eventually found the fox , it had travelled about 400 yds and he found it out the back of the copse lying in the next hedgerow with a wound channel across it's back ? He has another fox to sort out as his mate has lost some hens and has asked us for help , once the moon is off.
  2. I have been shooting foxes for 30 years and averaging the same amount year in year out using the lamp but when I started taking another guy out with nv the numbers were decimated and that's why they are low now. I only go out on my own now with the lamp and hope they recover somewhat. I have benefited all the other wildlife and there numbers are well under control but I would like to see a few more about.
  3. No mate , a very wise decision as would be redundant now. Also I don't like it , I like being more traditional ?
  4. Good times , no thermal or NV required ?
  5. Your missing the point mate , it's not I cant find any foxes there arent any to find so thermal wont make any difference . I mentioned thermal and nv as we used to use it and it decimated the population so would rather not use it now so the fox population can hopefully recover. I was an avid fox shooter up until the last couple of years but enthusiasm has waned now due to the lack of foxes. Glad I never bought all that expensive gear now as it would be up for sale ? Thermal and nv do have their place dont get me wrong just not for me because as a fox shooter I want foxes on the ground instead
  6. Yep but why even go out and find foxes if your not going to shoot them , you might as well stay in the house and watch Coronation street ?? Also why spend a fortune on that gear only to not use it ?
  7. Find a fox I know what you mean , they are now extinct on my grounds due to thermal and nv use. I used to go out with a guy for about 5 years using this combination on my grounds and we were out every other night hammering foxes consequently I am now regretting it as after 2 years the population still hasn't recovered. I can safely say I will not be buying thermal or nv, they have had a devastating impact on foxes round me , they are now an endangered species ?
  8. I also think they are fascinating , the first time I ever saw one in Cambridgeshire I was in awe. Just wish they were round me as would make a lovely challenging change.
  9. Well I didn't need telling twice, the wife was painting and wanted me out the house ? so off with the shotgun in search of vermin. Shot a right porker of a squirrel who had been eating well in readiness for winter. 5 squizzers and 4 magpies, happy with that ?
  10. Me and Bert popped out for a couple of hours this morning to try and bag my first pheasant. It was still too warm at 20c but Bert hunted and flushed a cock pheasant which was a left to right crosser which I folded nicely. Then I hunted a rough field and bagged a hen followed shortly afterwards by a flush of 3 hens managing to take a right and left ? Bert flushed another lovely cock pheasant but this one was missed , so 4 out of 5 and away home. Far too warm for the dog still.
  11. I'm surprised youare starting this early thought it would be November ....have a good day anyway.
  12. Are there many geese around at the minute as I'm just waiting for the nod to have a go near Biggar.
  13. I have the same gun ugartechea sbs half and full and love it .....what would it cost to re choke to half and half ?
  14. I would buy some lead cartridges if I was you ....36g 1s will do the trick. Also if you are using steel make sure that you are not shooting more than half choke. Buy a few sillosock decoys and only shoot when they are in close ? Where in the Borders are you ?
  15. Commitment ? Did you get it , hope there was 4 backed up in a stop end ?????
  16. I'm just back in too , popped to a farm that hasn't been shot for 18 months due to covid , wouldn't believe it as it started raining when I pulled in to the farm. ?? Had a quick call but the drizzle was a pain so came home.
  17. The rut should be going now , you free this weekend?
  18. Certainly pissed down today , the River Wear is well up now .
  19. Lock them up for 6 months , they might change their mind then ......arseholes.
  20. My mate searched for the fox he thought he hit the other night and found a big blood splash where the fox entered the copse also said it stunk but never found it due to high cover and nettles. I might have a look myself as love à challenge ?
  21. Well last night was a case of the Good the Bad and the Ugly ? The Good 2 foxes were shot ....The Bad 2 foxes were missed ...The Ugly 1 fox was gut shot. My mate was shooting at his permission which is basically some stables with a few paddocks but he does keep hens. Set up and after calling for an hour without seeing anything I thought we would blank. I decided to go to the boundary wall and look in the next field as the property owner had already squared it with the farmer next door that if any foxes were seen in his field to shoot them. Immediately I picked up some eyes but the wind was gus
  22. Cheers . 300 mile a week is no joke , they should pay the fuel at least.
  23. Feckin typical mate , cant rely on others to do anything, glad I'm out if it , boils my piss unreliable feckers ?Anyway I'm off out tonight to my mates place , fingers crossed there is a ? about.
  24. Bert has just been for a walk and a bit bedraggled so the wife wraps him up in his favourite pink towel ❤
