  1. I popped out to a farm last night that I havent shot a fox on all year as been left to rewild. Yesterday I noticed a couple of fresh cut grass fields so thought I'm bound to get a fox ?. How wrong I was , saw absolutely nothing ? Getting totally sick now of the shortage of foxes , so will stick to rabbits I think. Saying that tomorrow night I am off to a small holding that my mate has where he shot a fox back in the Spring , see if my luck changes ?
  2. Enjoyed reading that , you did better than me . I only saw 1 bird this morning which I dropped but it was a runner and couldn't find it. They know its opening day of the season as last week on the same ground when out with the rifle I put up around 20 , but there is always another day ?
  3. Well its 1st October and start of the season so I popped out with the little dog to try for a pheasant. Typical nothing about , I only lifted one ,a beautiful Black cock which took me by surprise with the gun not shouldered properly I managed to bring it down but unfortunately it was a strong runner and although I searched for it alas I never picked it ? Nice to be out and the dog enjoyed it even though I only managed a single bunny ? Hopefully a few more about next time ?
  4. I love Ozzy Osbourne, have every song he has done on a stick .....Saw him in concert on the Diary of a madman tour , think it was 1982.....
  5. Had duck and goose on 1st September , hoping for a pheasant on 1st October ?
  6. Stop it, you're making me jealous ?
  7. Yep its fine using the HMR on tame foxes at close range but different story when you are after warier country cousins.
  8. Great to see you're back ,look forward to reading about your adventures ?
  9. Good to see you back Mr Sausage , been busy on the foxes ?
  10. Beauty that mate , I would say defo medal. Lucky to have them , wish we had them up here.
  11. A lad I know had his guns confiscated for same reason ...Guilt by association. Apparently a known criminal had his number stored in his phone and had fled to Spain,.
  12. I agree with you about rimfires and foxes , centrefire is the way to go. The only foxes I have shot with my .22 or HMR have been purely opportunistic when out shooting rabbits. I would never go out intentionally for foxes without my .243
  13. I think the .22 is the most versatile calibre out there , shot thousands of critters with it. One night I shot a hare in the head with the .17 HMR and couldn't understand how it was still sitting there , on closer inspection I couldn't believe it but the round had taken out both its eyes yet it was just sitting there full of life , I had to dispatch it by hand .
  14. Well it boils down to personal preference once again. I have both and prefer the .22 for rabbits and hares for the reason you stated , cheaper ammo and quieter. My .17 HMR rarely gets used as I dont really like it , if I'm going foxing I use the .243
  15. That's a top night mate especially with the moon up but it's a bit windier tonight than last night. I was out last night for an hour and spotted a fox as I drove in the farm with the headlights but no chance of a shot , it was like daylight and not a breath of wind. Looks like we have got rain for the next week too so wont be out this week I think but we need to conserve petrol anyway as the garages round here are empty ?
  16. I loved my rock back in the 80s but the Quo were shite...hardly Motorhead or AC/DC couldnt stand there bland tunes which all sounded the same.
  17. It's called living with you ????? No seriously mate hope shes OK.
