  1. Last night saw me and David checking out one of my sheep farms to see if any foxes were around the lambs. I spotted a dog and a vixen in amongst some lambs hunting in tandem , but with some quick positioning and shooting David managed to get then both. Shooting the vixen first the dog only ran a further 30 yds , BIG MISTAKE
  2. Well done mate Its about bloody time :11:
  3. Thursday morning saw me on my ground by 5am , I was checking the regeneration hedge again after taking that young buck last week only to find this buck with a broken antler thrashing it hard. After stalking him for about 1/2 an hour he eventually succombed to a neck shot off my sticks at around 70 yards Buck season is going well so far
  4. After writing this post and the PC crashing and losing it I have decided to keep it short and sweet. Last weekend I travelled down to Wiltshire to meet up with Foxdropper and also to meet Martin, who is a real nice guy , very friendly and a pleasure to be out with. Anyway I had a couple of bucks after a couple of great stalks I also managed to bag a few foxes as well A nice trip away , thanks lads for having me
  5. Cant beat a bit of dry stone walling , did you remember your spike you novice How the hell did you find a snipes nest with eye sight like yours
  6. I just aimed straight at the strike point mate . I did have to calm myself down though as I know from experience the easiest shots are the ones that get missed
  7. Went for a stalk last night and decided to hug the boundary as a new regeneration hedge has been planted and I wanted to see if there was any deer damage. Well a buck had certainly been fraying this sapling . So I continued stalking round to a small copse that held deer , as I arrived I spied a doe in the wood strolling about. I then headed for another small copse , I glassed it from about 500 yards away and was lucky enough to spot a buck coming out of the wood and heading down a fence line. I stalked up the fence line carefully glassing all the time as the buck had vanish
  8. I love stalking muntjac as well but unfortunately they arent up here and I have to travel to shoot them . You are very lucky to have access to such a fascinating little deer !!
  9. Well done on your 1st buck . I dont think youll forget it. I bet youre itching to be out now and get your 2nd !!
  10. Me and Ratcherman laid in ambush last night on dusk watching the side of a wood to see if a roe buck would put in an appearance . After about 1/2 an hour of waiting a doe appeared about 180 yards away and was content just to feed. We watched her for about 20 mins hoping a buck would appear but a fox emerged intead I told Ratcherman to take the fox when he was ready as he had plenty of time as it never knew we were there . Ratcherman dropped the very smelly dog fox at 164 paces Then we decided to lamp the golf course and clean up a few bunnies ............. A very enjoyable
  11. Not camera shy this one ....................
  12. Its certainly grotesque FD , thanks for sharing that pic with us , I have been longing to see it. Who bought it in the end ??
  13. Out lamping with Ratcherman friday night , I took my .22/250 out again as Im shooting confidently with it . This dog fox swallowed a 55 grainer , he wasnt the brightest fox around as he just lay there and looked at me It was probably the darkest night I have ever been out in my life , you couldnt see anything at all , not even someone standing next to you . We kept bumping into fences and falling down , we had to use a small LED light quite a bit just to see where we were going ...............
  14. I would leave the deer condition on and go with a mentor , at least youve made a start , why delay things ?
  15. Who did you have shooting for you Ian ??? :11: :11: Seriuosly though 100 is a great bag , place must be lifting
  16. More stalking you lucky sod , wish I lived a bit closer mate Looking forward to next week , hope the weather is kind . Im sure we will do alright seeing as youre an excellent guide
  17. If you have to use a .22 rimfire I would always go for a head or neck shot . Never shoot them in the chest as too many run off wounded , some drop on the spot but you will lose others. If you shoot the fox between the eyes it will be stone dead , but the most foxes I have seen killed outright with the .22 have been shot in the neck , never lost a fox that was neck shot. Another thing to remember is keep the range close and dont try and shoot beyond your capabilities.
  18. I arrived this morning on my ground at 5.30am and there was a slight ground frost. Shot 1st buck at around 6.10 am . Lung shot ran on about 50yds , should buy myself a 6.5 x55 like the expert stalkers but as I am only a pretender I never learn Shot 2nd buck at around 7 am , this time neck shot dropped on the spot , lucky shot I suppose as only the true pros can pull off this shot Well I hope that pleased the back slappers gang Sorry no pics of my bins draped over my sticks as I havent mastered the art of that yet , but Im trying
  19. The amber filter is far superior to the red filter as it allows more of the beam to penetrate the darkness. I used to use a red filter a lot but soon switched to the amber once I saw the benefits. The red filter is fine for rabbits but foxes are shot at greater distance and I found that you struggle to see the fox clearly sometimes but this isnt a problem with the amber filter. Try it mate you wont be disappointed
