  1. A brilliant days stalking but I agree with Martin , it doesnt look good a pile of dead deer just thrown in a heap I would like to have seen them lined up nicely.
  2. Had a look out with David last night on his patch as I needed some meat for the dog. Anyway it was blowing an absolute gale , impossible to hold the rifle steady on my sticks . Missed quite a few needless to say but still enjoyed being about apart from when the torrential rain came . I still managed a few so the dog wont go hungry ...
  3. I arrived at my ground this morning for 6am and what a lovely morning it was too It was nice and still and the dawn chorus was nice to listen to as the countryside awoke. I stalked carefully along some woodland edge seeing nothing until I rounded a dogleg and spied a roe on the edge of the wood. I crawled on my belly a few yards to get within view and as I raised my eye to the scope there was now 2 roe ( buck and doe ) looking straight at me at around 100 yds. I placed the crosshairs just below the does chin and she crumpled on the spot . What a lovely morning to be out and back home
  4. As you say mate better to get the pair out the way now rather than later !!
  5. These were very large fields , lamping from the road and slipping dogs once fox spotted or called and I think using bull crosses. If you were shooting these foxes you would have cleaned up !!!
  6. Have you had a chance mate to check your rifle ???
  7. I was watching a DVD this afternoon of some blokes running foxes with lurchers doubled up and was surprised at their catch rate , I would say more escaped than got caught. I dont have any experience of lamping foxes with lurchers but after reading posts on here thought you would catch more than got away , am I wrong ?? A lot of slips were at foxes which were near hedges , fences , wood edge etc . Now I was thinking what is the point in slipping dogs if they dont have a chance of catching ??? Now I know where lamp shy foxes come from. What would you say is a decent percentage catch
  8. Me and Ratcherman had a look out on the golf course again last night .There was a half moon and it was a bit still and bright but as long as youre out there it doesnt matter. I took my rifle as he still hasnt had a chance to get his zeroed. After leaving the motor I lamped a fox immediately, Ratcherman got down on the bipod and launched a 58 gr v-max accurately between its eyes , a very humane shot . Another dog fox taken care of !! He cant wait til his rifle is set up Accurately placed shot ..............
  9. Enjoyed reading that mate Congratulations on your 1st CWD Was the cost reasonable as a lot of CWD stalking is extortionate !!
  10. i take it you have never seen a fox using bunkers to bury there food the river tyne runs next to these courses and when the salmon are spent the fox burys them in the bunkers for future food cache,s making a right old mess .all extra work for the green keeper and as also said they use these places to travel to and from various allotments so it is that these places provide good interception locations to hit them as they travell well done lads Woodga , spot on mate !!
  11. Happy Birthday Sounder , have a good un !!
  12. Just keeping it real mate Its a fact when something is shot there is often blood to be seen believe it or not
  13. After speaking to Ratcherman recently he told me he had just bought his new .243 and would appreciate going lamping with someone who had a bit of experience lamping foxes and using centrefires. I told him no problem and after phoning him yesterday we agreed to have a look out last night , unfortunately he hadnt had a chance to zero his rifle yet so I said I would just take my rifle and he could shoot that . We discussed safety etc and he was fully aware and appreciated that safety is always paramount. We called to a golf course where Ratcherman has the permission to shoot. I starte
  14. New set up , rabbit placed outside trap and a nest of eggs on top . Hope this gets them interested. Is anyone catching at the minute though ???
  15. Cheers mate Im looking forward to it. Have you seen any bucks at my favorite spot where I shot that big buck last year ??
  16. One of the local farms I shoot has got a larsen trap as there are hoards of magpies about. I baited it with rabbit a few days ago and havent caught yet . When I checked the trap this morning there was about 20 magpies around the trap but nothing captured I know the birds become very territorial in the Spring , just wondering if its a little early to trap yet or is anyone else catching at the minute. If anyone in the North East has a call bird Please let me know !!
  17. Good stuff Cabbage Patch Kid . I really cant wait to get down now in April and give them bucks a bashing !!!!!!!!!!
