  1. As I've said before I've always owned collie crosses and proberly will always have them but I never did the foxing game much but did do enough to understand what required! I belive if you want a foxing lurcher the collie cross is not the ideal pup to bring in? There is enough people getting rid of dogs half way through there first season as they are not happy with it and I'm not a believer in this ! I belive you carefully pick a pup for the job you do and keep it till the dog finishes it's life regardless if it's a good worker or not ! But if young lads see people talking about collie crosses
  2. I'm going off my own experience with the cross ! I've seen the collie cross taking a fox and never seen one take one with a good honest kill! Usually have to dispatch it myself ! We're I've seen over crosses to an honest job and kill it out right before you can get to the dog! Dunno what your getting and with pictures and Facebook!
  3. I think you will always produce more failures when it comes to the collie cross for the foxing job just not in there nature !
  4. Wales1234 I think that's a big statement that all collie crosses will do the foxing job! So dogs are given the best of chances just not in them! Not that it ever did bother me never been into it myself ! Ye I agree border lad I think a lot of dogs are runnied by over doing it to young! Also as a dog man it's one big learning curve ! I belive it would be a dam shame to have your best dog to be your first dog as you've not exprienced anything to bring to the hound!
  5. From what I've seen the beardie would add more drive into the dog but I dawt this is his concern it will be more to do with the looks to add to the SELLING point of the dogs!
  6. Some wise words border lad been about the game for a few years have you?you can sicken the collie crosses easy I belive !you need to understand the dog you have! Yes bird I just think if you look at the collie it's not in the nature to kill and risk getting hurt on another predator? They are more clever and ready to live another clever day ! We're the bull cross is out to do battle with anything that comes into it's path! Given the exception in both crosses! I've always own the collie cross and suits my all-round rabbiting do I require tho on bigger nights on the rabbits I think a little bit o
  7. Well said border lad I think most of the collie crosses you see and hear of are the Hancock dogs bred from everyone else is waste! Them dogs sound good handy hounds! What kind of bags of rabbits was these dogs capable of taking or was the pre lamp days?
  8. Not seen or heard much of this around my way ! Giving the lurcher boys more bad press ! Seems very disrespectful to the land and farmers and getting permission is always a struggle this will make it a lot harder!
  9. As been said I think handy ferreting dogs!handy on the lamp for rabbits ! And preban seen a few take hares and deer but they are a sensitive cross and can be ruined easy enough ! And as for a foxing dog (preban) the odds are against the collie cross I belive ! More will fail at the sport than make the grade!
  10. About 18 months old now ! She be 2 year old April. She's doing ok cheers pal
  11. Found this picture from when she was a pup thought I would share! Was wondering how the rest of the litter was doing? Bought her off here she's out of a collie greyhound whippet owned by owendbowendb. ?
  12. How much work she done before? Seems strange behavior ! Few easy nights or maybe try her out with another dog and keep her on the lead to watch?
  13. I've enjoyed reading this topic ! Dog sounds like he's doing well fair play! But if your gonna write about the dog be ready for some criticism! Good luck for the main part of the season!
  14. My dog she's a collie-greyhound-whippet she's 19 months old now so here first season had 6 at the end of last season! She's doing ok so far best night I've had with her is 17 and she's done that twice! But not pushing her to hard enjoying seeing her run!
