lesson for thoughs who dont use a locator
inan replied to fieldsportsman's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
yes, because squaking is really going to get your ferret out if its stuck down a hole inside the warren, which is 10ft down. Listen mate I understand because of a locater you got your ferret back today, I've never used and NEVER lost a ferret and if she was stuck I'd retrieve it by whatever means..........if you're that concerned about my ferts then buy me a locater. -

Agree with most things you say . . . . . . but not going ferreting because you cannot afford a locator, or suggesting that one does not value ones ferrets if one doesnt use one . . . . . . is bollocks! We are now in the 21st century our predcessors use to work without such technologly but we now have the chance to increase the chance of retriving a lossed ferret with £200 or cash FACT. I feel that if a hunter can afford a computer and internet connection then his priorty is not with his ferrets as I would willing give up my luxuries in life to fund a must have tool in todays modern fer -

And how exactly will you know if she is stuck behind a rabbit , or where that rabbit is,if you have no locator? If you had one you could dig to her, and fetch her out could you not ?How about if she is trapped in a shaft and can't climb out ? Even the ferrets most receptive to squeeks wont be coming out then will they? And, you won't have a clue where it is will you? But perhaps, you employ a type of ferret telepathy? Simples? I quite agree. Why would you prefer to take a day off work to retrieve a ferret next day ,you could have taken home that day,IF you had a locator with -

That's upto you mate but I'll never believe a locator is a 'must'. How are you going to dig through rocks, under concrete, rubbish tips/ piles..... Your not. its handy to have one But not a necessity. Yawwnnnn zzzzzzzzz i will hav a go at digging thru anything, i enjoy digging, and digging throught rubbish tips and such i just wouldnt ferret it simple as -

Don't take it personal, its a forum, and everybody has their own view. When I was a kid it was a collar and string, but I never needed that really, and my ferrets now are no problem, but I always collar them because I can. I have to dig now, but years ago I would have sat around a lot more. Each to their own mate. I've just got my locator fixed to find out the collar is fcuked and need To fork out for a new one...... I think locators are great, exactly what your saying is right about rabbit numbers, less waiting and quicker to move on but people that cant afford a locator or cant afford repai -

Joe, you'll see by my original post, that I wasn't advocating bringing in new blood....simply asking IF it would be worth it. My own opinion is NO, it isn't worth it, as we have, as you say, pleanty of good blood right here, but theres some on here who seem to think the dogs "over the pond" are some sort of mystical beast, that we can't equal ! I think that if people here put more thought into what they are breeding, and only used good stock, there wouldn't be so mich dross about. Cheers. C P, I'm not up with the game anymore, so you can correct me if I am wrong, but it's my understand

Question for the followers of coursing,[preban],has any competition had the depth of quality of the 2000 Millenium Forley Cup? I M O. Any of the finalists would have been worthy winners. Some that did not make the final included M P's Lucky, and T G's pure saluki, top class dogs in their own right.. After Alan Tyer handed the Cup to Alan Sankey, owner of the winner , that wonderful bitch Blondie, I asked Geoff Ogden if he had seen dogs as good before that day? He replied," I've seen dogs as good ,but never as many in one place". My mate Gary D was a finalist ,with his fast, and deadly do

Stonehenge was the literary pseudonym of John Henry Walsh ,Walsh wrote several books on Greyhounds and coursing,he was a very knowledgeable, and erudite man ,and an ophthalmic surgeon, his books should be worth a few bob today.

A lad from my neck of the woods has lined his bitch with this stud, no one is suggesting the dog cannot do the job on other ground, just that most dogs can pick up on plough, and some of them would have done it sooner.

I agree, given a choice when coursed, most hares will get off plough as quick as possible ,because they know they are vulnerable on it.

ehhh shells made of calcium ye thick c**t grits for there gizzard to grind there food thick c**t!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol, at old timer and blue one, funny they eat it every day but don't end up with a full crop! Perhaps the grit mixes with the food it has ground and so is passed down into the digestion and is used as part of the structure of the shells. Don’t feed it and they lay soft shelled eggs, funny that. No one said shells don't contain calcium just that they would add little to the diet. A normal diet either complete or raw will supply more than enough calcium. As I said likely do no harm or g

If it's as good as the first one, it will certainly be.

I judged the E of E show with him a few years back ,he is a good lurcher judge and has a good reputation with dogs.I would imagine this is aimed more thaose wanting to "experience", the out doors and have a taste of fields sports, rather than the meat and potatoes lurcher guy/woman. Hope this hasn't given you ideas Tomo? thought about it befor inan,, get a caravan on one of my farms,, arrive fri night lamp,,, all day sat ferreting,,, sat night lamp ,, go home sunday, so 2 nights on the lamp and a days ferreting £100 a man,, just take 2 people 3 at the most, at a time. ide provide
