....the man,the dog,and where it is captures what these dogs are about for me....much better than any of the snarling devil dog nonsense. Most definately! a great, great breed that i miss having around me very much. ho hum... yokel.

there was a dog down here in the late 's owned by a mate of mine called "roach" irish terrier bred lurcher, looked like a battersea mutt, but worked like a good un, and in a straight line was nigh on unbeatable. remember him being entered into the lurcher racing at the old gamekeeper fair in ware, he stood there lined up with all these flashy looking saluki x's and collie types, me and my brother were telling this fella who was with us, "watch that little mutt take the piss out of this lot" he laughed like we were a couple of no nothing fools... i swear half of them dogs had'nt got off the sta

I know the picture your on about it was on the front of Ed Reids book canine gladiators of old & modern times....im sure someone will have the book and be able to put the picture up for you. I always thought the don mayfield picture with swig would make a nice tattoo it kind of captures the essence of what the dogs are about....well it does for me anyway ....im no good a posting pictures but again,im sure someone could do it. here you go gnash... yokel.

irrelevent fella, like i say they do not recognise the A.P.B.T. AS A BREED only type. so if your dog looks like that type, it can be taken under the D.D.A. a boxer x lab, staff x whatever, if the resulting off spring are of a certain type, and more importantly, kept in a "working" environment they are at risk,it's your job to prove their not, not theirs to prove they are, especially if your foolhardy enough to post them up on working dog sites. you also have to remember, that whilst he sits on the other side of the fence, mr butcher has been around these dogs as long as most of the "old timers

the A.P.B.T. is NOT a banned breed in this country (U.K.) as the k.c, government etc would not recognise it as a pure breed dog back in 91 so it was "pit bull TYPE" that was included on the D.D.A. so any dog, cross breed or not that conforms to said type can be taken and destroyed under said law. be very carefull my pedigree chums... yokel

dannys 1st fight against skelton was one of the best heavyweight bouts i've seen, an absolute war, old matty could of done with a glove on his head, he used it as much as his fists lol. i remember when the rematch was announced, i was telling anyone who'd listen, you've got to watch this fight, if it's half as good as the 1st...blah blah... what happened, matt decided he was gonna be a counter puncher and danny didn't throw a punch lol, never been so disapointed in a fight... yokel.

possibly the worst looking staff/pitbull ive evrt seen
YOKEL replied to yoggerman's topic in General Talk
there seems to be a facination with leg length/height to shoulder on here. and a belief that the taller the dog the better it will be at it's original task. it's not a dogs height that is the problem, it's the height to weight ratio. any dog that has been bred specifically for it's leg length, be that leg length 16 or 22in is going to struggle against a dog that has been bred for generations for sport solely. a dogs ability to perform should be the only standard you need to tell you he's built right. i'd take a 17in gamedog over a 20in cur every day of the week... yokel. p.s. yoggerma -

Why good for him ?....good for him that he chooses to own a poorly bred poorly put together dog ?...lets call a spade a spade not dress it up like winning a noncey rosette at a kennel club show is a good thing !.....as admirers of working/sporting dogs we should be strongly discouraging the backwards breeding of once decent dog breeds, not turning a blind eye and saying " its his thing ".....if i purposely had a child with a woman with no arms knowing the resulting offspring were going to have physical abnormalities is it ok to say well thats fine i put a lot of time and money into the kid and -

Maybe if less people had your attitude Yokel then maybe the Stafford wouldnt be in the state as a working animal it is today...dumping the breed to jump into what they thought was the next best thing to come along...theres been plenty that paid Good money for american 'Donkeys' just becuase they had a pretty pedigree on..."Now as regards working staffs, and i mean Work"...well they shouldnt be discussed on an open forum certainly not one of the most watched filled with dodgy shady characters...just my opinion Not an attitude, meerly an opinion, hence I.M.O...i have in the past kept bot

if you want to know if your dog is built right, put him to work, if he can perform well at his task the he's made right, "form follows function" if you will. i agree with the man above regards breeding for athletic LOOKING animals, i see no difference in a man who strives for a 19/20in dog, from the k.c. breeder whom they seem to dispise so much. if the sire/dam have proved themselve where it counts, then as i said before, they are built right. Now regards working staffs, and i mean WORK. i've seen some good uns with my own eyes, but the problem, I.M.O. lies in consistantly reproducing the sam

T Ahearne's "Rusty" was a collie, greyhound wasnt it ?? think over the years he had a few dogs he called rusty, of which 1 you are correct was a collie/grey, one of the others, (sometime after the collie/grey) was a beddie/lakeland out of rambo

i bought a double bred grandson of rambo's of s.s. 16yrs ago he was by T Ahernes "rusty" out of "Treacle". my mother made a pet out of him, which was about all he was good for. far to big for earth work and sang like a banshee above. I will say tho, all the time we was round staleys he kept pushing the point that they were NOT out an out digging dog's, and if that's what we were after to look eleswhere. with hindsight, i would'nt give two bob for one... Seen many good fights over the years, some of which have been mentioned above, but for me, my all time great at any weight has to be the Ali/Frazer Manilla fight, fighting in rediculous tempratures and humidity, both fighters showing great skill, taking huge shots, and pretty much being taken to the extreme of human endurance, yet neither willing to give in. If you had to show a man what gameness means, then you would'nt go far wrong showing him this fight, frazer fighting pretty much blind in the last couple of rounds, having to be physically guided back to his corner at the end of the 14th!

i predicted this fight would happen just before harrison got his crack at the eu title. with all the fannying around with the klitchco's you could see it was'nt going to happen...yet. RE: harrison, he should think himself lucky to be getting a shot at this, the man has done nothing to deserve it, he's got thru his last few fights on a wing and a prayer. i was at the excel last year when he won the prizefighter tournement and he was abysmal. i have never seen a man who makes a living out of fighting so afraid of being hit! and the wee irish fella he beat in the final was all over him like a
