she has a very tight grip on your cock

i think a dog should see at least a couple of seasons solid graft before thinking about breeding it, and then only if you personally need more stock and can place the surplus...j.m.o. Yokel

i've had plenty of gear of jim in the past, you wont go far wrong with this stuff, worth every penny I.M.O. Yokel.

dog just keeps barking and diging outside hole?
YOKEL replied to a topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
as others have said, patience, the dog will enter when it's ready, take it out with experienced dogs and tether it within earshot of the earths their working. seen young dogs over encouraged to go to ground before time and i.m.o. it can ruin them and get them false marking... yokel -
I.M.O. A good honest earthdog is as game as any other breed out there & does not need the inclusion of any other breed to make him more so, he enters an alien enviroment, cramped of space, lacking in air and in total darkness he locates his quarry, bottles him up and stays with him for as long as required whilst taking (on occasion) severe punishment. If he was losing gameness, i do'nt think it was down to the lack of bull blood, just down to people breeding off of inferior animals/untested stock. work em hard and breed from the best. J.M.O... there was an irish fella over in norfolk a few years back, kept a line of bat eared red terriers, recons they were "balla" terriers from his home land. he was the only fella i know who had heard of them mind... Yokel

i had a pair of the hoggs "breamaster" fell boots, lace to toe many years back, ONCE there broken in they are a cracking boot, mine saw me thru around 4/5 seasons digging, but they do take some breaking in. use the british army cold wheather (pro) boots now... Yokel

just a question regarding this you say a dog can differentiate between the two lets just say you go to a fox earth and theres no foxes at home but a rabbit how does the dog know not to get the rabbit because theres no fox to ground for him to persue? i can honestly say i never had to dig to a rabbit, had a few bolt out of pipes, and the odd one out of an earth. one shoot i used to do had a big long bank full of holes. some rabbity, some earths, some abit of both, just used to collar a dog up and run it off the slip, they'd stick there head in & sniff, if a fox was at home they'd ente

i hav'nt owned terriers for around 10yrs now, but when i did, the young un's were taken out as regular as possible and allowed to bush and ratch about for anything, they would also be taken on digs and tethered within earshot at an early age. i think all work is good for a young terrier and helps bring them on and once they learn there real trade they can differentiate between the two, but every cripple has his way of walking & this is J.M.O. others may differ... nice to hear, tho i'd give him plenty more work before you start thinking about lining him to bitches, while some promising young dogs learn and get better as the job gets harder, lots decide it aint really there cup o' tea...hope he's one of the former. A.T.B.... Yokel

i'd get it look at, as others have said, dog's carry alot of shite about in there mouths. awhile back now a fella i used to beat with took a bite on the hand, did'nt look to serious, gave it a wash and stuck a plaster on it, next morning it did'nt look to sharp and he'd lost some sensation in his fingers, come the afternoon his missus made him go to the dr's, that was the last thing he rememberd, woke up 3 days later on a hospital ward after having emergency surgery for blood poisening, it was tracking up his arm on it's way to his heart, they recon had he not gone to the dr's at that

does she start barking right at the beginning of the run or half way in to it? coz if its half way in to it its frustrated that she cant catch it you beat me to it. it's usually frustration at being unable to catch/overmatched. i'd stop running her on the bigger stuff and let her build her confidence on stuff she can catch, then start her up again next season when she's a bit older/wiser...

the best breed of terrier you owned or seen work?
YOKEL replied to paul the poacher's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
best fox dog i owned was a lakie/russel x, excellent finder and would stay as long as required. close second was a gouldy bred black bitch, could of bettered him but unfortunately died the first season i had her... -
good looking bitch that, best of luck with it...

just flush them out and keep them clean, i like the saline eye wash pods, do the job well. as long as the dogs jabbed up you should have no probs...

iv'e kept terriers in the house that have been regularly dug to, i.m.o. if it's in the dog it's in it, the down side is this... if you have a wife and kids and they spend the first yr of the pups life molly coddling it/giving it lots of tickles and treats etc, he becomes a loved member of the family, so when you go out to try him on his first fox and bring him home all chewed up your on the couch my son, and buying lots of sweets to stem the flow of childrens tears...
