Wow! 10 ferrets working at once....surely no warren is big enough to need 10 ferrets? how many of you are there to keep on top of that? I could be wrong but I'd have thought that number of ferrets in one warren would be blocking off escape routes and virtually guaranteeing kills underground? using 10 or more ferrets at one go is common on a massive warren .... i have a warren i work every year that has over a 150 holes and needs 10 ferrets working to get the rabbits moving

there is a lot more to being a good dog man than just owning a good dog ... most people who are out regularly have a good dog ... being a good dog man is all about the whole package ... training, entering correctly, feeding, conditioning, being able to recognise and treat ailments when to run the dogs when not to good kennel managemenyt etc etc etc the list is endless but in my eyes all these factors make for a good dog man and not just the facft he has a decent dog ....

feeding with meat once at night is all good as far as cleanlyness and husbandry is concerned but ferrets have a very short digestive tract meaning they need to eat 6 or 7 times through the day so if you dont like flies then they need a dry meal of some sort to keep them going through the day .............

nice wee thing you have there ... as for it being wated on rabbits i dont see that ... if the dog works mice rats rabbits or fox and the owner is happy how is it wasted ... sat in front of a fireplace getting fat is a waste ... also the dog may be from a line of jibbers and would never make a digging dog just because it looks the part dont mean it is ... work it on whatever you want fella and work it hard and rest it well and the dog cant ask for more than that ...........

another thought ... is parker ailing with something ??? and does the terrier know and you havnt spotted it ??? a dog waiting to take over will jump on the chance if what he sees as the dominant dog is under the weather ... BUT it still comes down to the fact that the terrier is seeing parker as his challenge ie top dog and not you ..............

spot on moll there can only ever be one pack leader and that has to be YOU ... i have a little 17 week old russel pup that is learning the hard way that i am the boss but day by day she is learning that she cant take the other dogs bones she cant growl when i rub her face when she is eating she cant run ahead to her feeding place before me etc etc etc .... 1 dog 3 dogs or 20 dogs there can ever only be 1 pack leader and that has to be you the rest have to be submissive and not fight amongst each other ............

very easy for a vet to tell if it is a blockage 1. feel the dogs stomach particularly the intestinal tract 2. put a thermometer up its arse if it comes out with shit on then there is no blockage 3. an x ray simple tells you straight away with no doubt whatsoever -

only just started getin her fit ,shes 10 month old so has been fed well,give me a month or to she will be no lab ,and not very manly to be knockin anothers mans dog is it now feck me sweetheart calm down i was only having the craic hence the laugh symbols .......... -

bear grills is a joke ... all his talk about special forces he was in 23 sas which is the TA version he has never seen a conflict or any action of any kind ... he is a very good mountain climber and thats it ... ray mears is the real deal when it comes to survival tarining ... i have done a course with him and he is very knowledgable and down to earth the man could light a fire under water lol ... he does bat for the other side though ..........

i have used both and other combinations and the ground you are describing definately suites a a spaniel lurcher combination ...........

if you want an out and out bushing dog that will work all cover be steady and obedient then you need to be looking at a springer or a cocker as thats what they were bred to do ... most terriers will work cover well but go deaf when on quarry and will try and snatch it out of the lurchers mouth once their blood is up and have worked hard to push out a rabbit ... a small little cocker from good working stuff would be perfect for what you want ......

if your talking about using the terrier for rabbiting for a few seasons then using it for digging dont bother ... you will need two different dogs for that ... the temperament needed for a digging dog will not be any good to you as a bushing mooching dog ... as for biddability and obedience i have found a border hard to beat ... as for a digging dog its more about the breeding than type .........

a good OBEDIENT terrier and lurcher or a cocker/springer lurcher team .......

happened to me last year ... bellied a doe and a pair of fawns fell out ... due to be born any day by the looks of them ... the dogs had the mother and the ferrets had the fawns ... thats nature mate ... it was all ready dead so nothing you could do ... better to use the carcase than leave it to rot ......
