  1. well mate, i follow the local foxhounds either on foot, cycle or quad bike along with the bird of prey, only miss a hunt if its too far away (can't drive) i have been offered to join the terrier men with the hunt to see them work and help out with digging - which i'm really looking forward to! i own ferrets and an adult lurcher all of whom work except one ferret whose a pet, two pups that i'm bringing on, and a litter of kits. am planning to learn to shoot and would love the chance to go deer stalking with someone...any offers! lol have gained more permission today for working me lurcher, br
  2. was just about to mention badger .. but you beat me to it lol !! give them time, lots of handling, get them used to you, your voice, being on floor while you step around in big boots, your dogs, tunnels, get them used to everything they'll see on the day, i also take me ferrets out every now and again to some land, just to get them used to being in a strange place with me and me dogs, then its not such a surprise for them, also the bigger the run they have in your garden the fitter they are and longer they can work best of luck, but time and patience is the key hope this helps

  4. this is scary business, there is truth about not letting people know what dogs you have, but dog needs to be exercised and later worked you can't hide them away for ever the only thing i'd say is for everyone to get so much more aware that this is and will keep happening, put lights, camras up, padlock kennles have at least one dog in the kennel that barks even if its just a pet, pop p signs on fence stating about camras watching etc, a place can't be too well guarded fact, also a rondom one is geese are fantastic are guarding i know a lady who breeds horses and swears by them .. other then

  6. when i was married me husband hated that i enjoyed hunting mainly as it ment he didn't know where i was! he was a right control freak now i'm free from the c*nt meself and me daughter love it, we follow the local foxhounds, and do ferreting and i enjoy lamping and ferreting on me own too, will be watching terriers work and hopefully going deer stalking next season and plan to learn to shoot wouldn't have me life any other way having said that apart from the couple on thl i'm the only girlie i know who interested in most aspects of hunting happy hunting everyone!!

  8. stunning dog mate and this colour isn't even my thing, i'm sure someone will snatch him up as soon as they see him
  9. sure mate raw meaty bones from local butcher - free leftovers from game during season - free minced tripe 454 g from landywoods - 32p reduced section chicken portions etc - £1 ish i reckon your dog would have a pouch of meat from landywoods 454grams a day, add this to little kibble for etc vitamins, you you can buy them seperatly, keeps weight on dog while working wonderfully http://www.landywoods.co.uk/price_list.html hope this helps lurcher lass x x
  10. any breed is good it just depends on the twat owner! good person = good dog ....simple we all have our favourites and perfer a breed, type etc but thats what makes lurchers so great! no two types are the same, all are brilliant in their area, a lurcher is a sighthound x any other breed whippet, greyhound. deerhound. saluki. afgan hound, wolfhound etc crossed with another sighthound or other type collie, terrier, shepherd, bull type, gundogs etc thats what makes them so brilliant from the KC interbred disgrace that we see today it would just be damn boring if we all had the
  11. same here mate, perferably bitch and idealy feathered as they do look beautful, i would bring it on slowly as a pup then let it do what it was bred to do, sit back smile and be proud of me dog
  12. i only have once had to rehome a dog due to extreme circumstances, the dog would have been destroyed thanks to the c*nt my ex who made claims to the courts and police that my rottie x shepherd had bitten my three yr old daughter, this was completly untrue, but what with the rottie media stories at the time i had no choice but get out of harms way to a friend, the bitch has settled and is happy so she's staying there but i was sorry to see such a charming dog go if anyone stated that i was a dealer or anything else i would be very swift about standing up and making meself heard! your not makin
  13. madness, people you have a dog you have a responsibilty to said dog, if this dog was that good it would sell itself, i was at a country show the other day and a bloke offered me £350 for me pup! of course i'm not selling her! i understand that every now and again circumstances change and you may need to sell a dog, but its basic commen sense to put a photo of the dog looking sound, give details on the dog and have a high enough price so you can ensure a good home for the dog originally i was trying to give helpfull hints to the seller but after reading these posts i'm concerned, could th
  14. hey mate how old is he, has he ever been worked, is he entire cheers
  15. i have fallen in love with your stunning dogs! lol one day i'll have a saluki i just think their stunning mate
  16. wheres these pictures mate! though the only point i wish to make is by all means give him a run and let him have a go at working, but don't you feel its irresponsible breeding a dog you've got from rescue and therefore have no idea on medical history on this dog itself or previous generations, , just think before you stud him out and make money out of pups that you have no idea on their health, sorry mate but it had to be said by someone other then that good luck working him, and keep us informed on how he goes with old charlie all the best lurcher lass x x p.s no badness meant
  17. i use a poultry feeder with water in for the kits, they will copy the parent as they get older but for those taking a bit more time there can still reach water easily, trust me a dehydrated kit is not what you want, i ended up hand rearing one when many would have killed it but he's grand now and catching up quickly with the others hope this helps all the best lurcher lass x x
  18. if your considering a whippet or greyhound type dog then i would strongly advise that you made purpose built kennels, these dogs are prone to the cold due to lack of coat coverage, a friend of mine has racing greyhounds in barns originally for cattle, he pops them in a fleace coat and plenty of warm bedding the dogs are grand, but i wouldn't have them in anything less then this hope this helps all the best lurcher lass x
  19. nice to hear about you mate, and welcome to the site sounds like a really nice part of the country that you live in all the best lurcher lass x x x

  21. thank you everyone, i had actually stopped looking at this post since only two people had a look its now two weeks since the bite, her knee is now the size of a golf ball, she's still in anti inflamitries is eating and drinking better now, i'm lead walking her twice a day though try telling her she can't run!! i'm not sure if i'll be able to use her as working dog properly again, apart from the odd run but thats ok, will give her time and see if she gets better flexablity on her leg, if not then my girlie can retire to the sofa, be a shame to lose a good working dog but she's a friend
