I'm sure you have - Sounds a great place. I am pretty sure the little owls where taking froglets as they left the pond there was often several round the pond at once and often just stayed stood on the ground waiting. It was also the first some I ever saw daubentons bats (as well as tons of pipistrelle bats ) It was in the suburbs of Leeds by a huge factory and ring road so just shows how much wildlife they attract.

You don't mess about! I dream about things like this lol. There used to be an amazing old shallow silted up mill pond near me about the same size and it was full of life. It got drained for building land it was gutting and such a shame. A dip with a net revealed allsorts - newts, frogs, toads, sticklebacks and all sorts of invertebrates. It was also a great spot for little owls and bats at night. Good luck and keep us updated.

What an amazing project! I'd love to see a thread on it to follow if you go ahead

Same here, I gave my two dogs the leftover meat from Christmas dinner. As usual they inhaled it within seconds and doubt they even tasted it lol.

Need Help Buying An Air Rifle..
tomburras replied to Jordan Stocker Palmer's topic in General Airgun Discussion
An old hw80 isn't that heavy and id even say the weight helps absorb recoil and holding steady - for me anyway. An old is like an old landrover lol - simple, easy to repair, gets the job done and holds it's value. Keep it a few year and still get your money back! I saw a guy and his mate a while ago in your boat in the gun shop looking at the second hand rack looking at some great second hand airguns. They moved onto the new rack and he was instantly drawn to..... A Remington genesis (yak!!) drawn to it because of it's appearance. He baught that pile of new crap and a budget scope. -
I love them too! flash fried like a medium rare steak then served with roast carrots and cubed potatoes with peppercorn sauce mmmm

Need Help Buying An Air Rifle..
tomburras replied to Jordan Stocker Palmer's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Id stay away from new a gamo, webley, stoger ect and with your budget look for an older secondhand HW80 built when they at their best. For your budget you could find one with a scope included. They have stood the test of time and will last you decades. plenty of spares and tuning parts available then down the line you wanted to you could get it tuned or even tune it yourself. if you buy a cheaper new one it may cause disappointment and frustration (iv tried such guns and been there!) buy a older HW and your wont come to a time you want to upgrade because you will already have the best! che -

Great picture - I was frozen out of my landrover this morning I had to get in and out through the back door ?

you are one tough bloke! I was suprised when you carried on but to stitch yourself up afterwards! wow

No you do not see infra red with your scope, the camera that goes onto the scope does. What the kit does is produce IR with a lamp or in built IR illuminator, the IR is then seen by a camera that goes onto the eyepiece of your scope and produces an image that is viewed on a small LCD screen. You look at the screen, not through the scope. And if you build a Nv kit use an e700 camera, wish I'd used one from the beginning. The others where pants in comparison.
-
i got the e700 today and wired it up and wow what a vast improvement! the link to the right one with ir filter removed is here....... http://www.sure24.co.uk/solutions/night-vision/kpc-e700pub-16b-s-board-cam-ir-filter-removed-16mm-board-lens-1-3-700-tvl-30mm-sq-12v-dc-internal.html its totally transformed my nv set up.

The quarry is a shadow of its former self. I don't know if you remember the huge dyramid rock that had another huge rock balanced on top of it? I spent many years shooting and messing about in the quarry back in the days when it was open and owned by 'Briggs's' Believe it or not there is roe deer in there now!!!!! If you go to the Iveson end of the quarry, there is another lump of woodland and at the bottom of that there is another 'shelter', a sort of concrete bunker....the other concrete structures in that wood are old sewerage units... I seen roe deer there many times over th

At farm I did my middle year placement on had a old wartime aircraft hanger on it, one of the first ever built. The woodwork supporting the roof was fantastic, places like that are not built anymore. it was so full of character. spent many hours in there watching the grain dryer and imagining old planes going in and out and the history that went on in there to pass the time.

cheers J Darcy, would be nice to see some piccys! the old quarry buildings in the woods are interesting and used to go there too, also went there on the same trip last week and looking down the drop to the quarry sent shivers down my spine thinking how we used to climb up it as a kids!
-
your very lucky! would like to see that.

it was a great shelter wasn't it! its a big shame it was removed I don't know why they did it. I also played in that area messing in the woods, by the canal and river. it was great and have good memories of childhood adventures and fishing. I didn't know about the leeds perm bunker that sounds interesting is it still there?

It had steps covered in mud but you could find them if you scraped about. I spoke to a few old folk in the local pub (abbey inn) and if the siren went it was for the staff to dash into.
