  1. They say Fortune Favours the Brave. There used to be a place near me where the entrances were at the bottom of a 20 foot high bank. We used to dig them at 4 foot out in the field. And, the other side of the coin is that the easy looking place can often be the opposite. But then again, you could walk away from that place saying "the tree was right".
  2. I've met of their past masters several times and IMO one of the most interesting fellows I've ever met ( and I've met many) . The type of man a book should be wrote about.
  3. I agree Wideboy. Most hens that you'll buy over here now are Michigan Blueback crosses anyway which they say are the best mothers. Pity they prefare the neighbours land though, LOL.
  4. I said it before and I'll say it again but who needs exotic species when we have Goldfinches, beautiful.
  5. Did they not change their name to one of their old names from back in the good ol' days ?
  6. I'm delighted for you Fatman (another excuse to get drunk) and some very decent lads were looking and asking for her. Sadly it was the 3rd similar situation that I was informed of in the last few weeks, the other 2 were black terriers, 1 was in Cork, 1 was in Armagh and you were the only lucky one of the 3.
  7. Admit it MIK, your now dreaming about how good your terrier would be on an Otter, or at least a Mink. LOL. Great video.
  8. Will you be affiliated to the NARGC ? And the land you's have is it already belonging (the shooting I mean) to another club ? Our club buys mostly 16 week old poults which we release around the gun club lands. We buy around 300. After the season we buy 20 or 30 adult cocks and around 50 or 60 hens. Folk say that released hens don't have a high breeding rate but I released 50 last Saturday and on Monday I seen some of them with wild cocks. After a few years of releasing hens I think it's paying off and weather permitting we have plenty of wild clutches about every year. We put out plent
  9. It's an unusual time of the year to find problems in a hounds feet. How did they get on over the winter ?
  10. Was that an article I wrote in a JD book ?
  11. Good luck with your aims Lance. I remember when I used to make goals for myself, nowadays the biggest goal is to actually get some fishing done, LOL. Keep us up to date.
  12. When you say clubs John do you mean Gun Clubs as in Eire ?
  13. No the 2005 after your name Stevie G is the year you took up keeping terriers. I would suggest you now take up the next step, get them out to do a bit. Don't bring my name into other's arguments. I'm also having a good laugh that you brought up "the book" again. LOL. Real sign of a messer.
  14. Sorry, couldn't resist it. When I was an apprentice butcher if I cut myself the boss would tell us to go to a cupboard and find the grey powder and rub it in the cut. You'd hear us (the other apprentices as well) screaming from down the road. It never did work and after a couple of times I found out the powder was pork seasoning. I used to suffer from mouth ulcers and haven't had them since I stopped drinking a few beers from the tin and pour it in the glass now.
  15. Big tablespoon of pepper and hold it in your mouth for a minute. Let us know how you get on.
  16. I hope you get her back Fatman, I know how fond of her you are.
  17. Sounds like a typical example of the breed. When you say "other dogs" I presume you mean labradors, collies etc. because they usually stop that annoying habit when they meet one who doesn't take shit. Just like most bullies or curs.
  18. I remember that, it was brilliant. Would love to see it again. It was in two parts if I remember correctly.
  19. My father fished Loch Muckno for bream the other day and only got some small roach. He said that there were pike in large numbers spawning in the shallows, some of them huge. So if the pike are spawning now it's not usually for another few weeks before the bream will start.
  20. One on the dry's worth two any other method. Well done.
  21. JMHO and I've used a flirt pole plenty but it makes no sense whatsoever to use a flirt pole on a running dog. None what so ever.
  22. Year ago no-one was putting 50 + rabbits in front of their dogs or 7 or 8 foxes a day/night or expecting them to kill 7 out of 8, only messing on the last one but there wasn't massive egos and it was about the hunt with 2 dogs on 1 hare. Also IMO the most common cross years ago was the collie cross and back then the collie was an unbelievable dog in that it usually lived of table scraps and little else but could do a harder days work than most other breeds. Dogs today probably never had it so good but they're not the hardy SOBs they used to be.
