Can badgers be taken out of a dig with your hands Blaise ?
-
So one Matthew Bowley, who probably say's he's an animal lover wants to machine gun the hounds to death and then those on horse back. Then another fruit cake says she hopes children are next. I presume these dangers to society are on a police computer somewhere. If not, why not ?

So Who Wants To Release Wolves Back In The Countryside ?
neil cooney replied to neil cooney's topic in General Talk
One thing I'll say about the vid I posted up above is it's not a 30" Timber wolf but it is ,at a guess, a 60lb saluki. If eventually the tree huggers do get to release Lupus Lupus on these shores some entrepreneur will be ahead of the game and start breeding Kangol's, LOL . -
So Who Wants To Release Wolves Back In The Countryside ?

I'm usually against this sort of video on the inter-net but it's an old one taken in a foreign country and IMO the hunter should have ended it. But it's there for debate. Who mentioned bullcrosses ???? LOL. -
So Who Wants To Release Wolves Back In The Countryside ?

It amazes me when you hear so called experts measuring jaw pressure per square inch. If you got 100 pit bulls you would get 100 different readings reading from both ends of the scale. You could get a dog who'd bite through a girder and his brother wouldn't bite through a ham sandwich. Another thing, when lads are talking about bite they nearly always mention bullmastiffs. Ask anyone who knows about bite in dogs will tell you a long muzzle will always be stronger than short bulldogge type muzzle. It dispels the K.C. myth that the bulldog needs a short pug like muzzle for holding down a bull -
So Who Wants To Release Wolves Back In The Countryside ?

The original Irish Wolfhound is extinct and was recreated using deerhound, mastiff and other blood to give us the giant we have today and many Irish legends tell us that they were equal to two men in battle. Maybe the enemy didn't have swords and spears. The last wolf was killed in Carlow if I remember correctly by a Wolfhound. Wasn't the last Scottish wolf killed by a deerhound ? Also, isn't there a youtube video of a Saluki killing a wolf ? I know there's a few other Saluki's standing around backing him up but only one dog get's involved. -
Sometimes all you need is just the one landowners permission in an area ,no matter how small, to get the ball rolling. No harm either to have insurance to show off and once you have that one permission you then have references. It's hard work to get permissions at times and once got it can be hard work to keep them. For example, we were out yesterday and spent 20 minutes backfilling a four foot hole that some cowboy was too lazy to backfill. It's little things like that. Good luck.

I thought we'd have had a few Turbans by now ! They look warm and practical.

Well then Keego we shall be looking forward to you telling us how to work terriers properly with the wealth of knowledge that hopefully you'll share with us.

Good advice Smasher. Some lads wouldn't have any sport unless they done the sandy places but if there's plenty of sport otherwise sometimes they're best left. The throw out should (but not always) tell you what to expect and as you say ,keep her wide.

Is The Apbt The True Bulldog Or A Terrier Cross?
neil cooney replied to DogFox123's topic in General Talk
If it got so many tossers away from the breed...why when i was over Belfast about 10 years back was it every other dog i saw on the street was a Pit Bull?...there was more in the hands of Tossers after the DDA and all the media hysteria than before...the same as it was in England...and thats not to mention the northern Irish dogmen that sold these dogs to just about any tosser with the money to buy em....and that includes asian peddlers that helped flood English cities with dogs that re-ignited a shit-storm that brought heat down on just about everyone...the thing you need to remember it wasnt -
The fox looks high and the deer looks like he's getting it from behind. It's amazing what some people consider good work.
-
I used to do it regularly with good results and an old mate reckoned the rabbits belly's were full too which made them slower, LOL, maybe he was right.

Watch the whole vid. The owner was moose hunting and scared the wolves away and actually got the dog to the vet who saved it. The dog was wearing a vest, which saved it. My own opinion after watching it was that wolves are curs.

Is The Apbt The True Bulldog Or A Terrier Cross?
neil cooney replied to DogFox123's topic in General Talk
I see someone mentioned the DDA . I don't know about Britain but in Ireland those who had the APBT truly to heart felt that all the bad publicity and the Irish DDA (he's not banned in the Republic) was the best thing to happen the breed because it got so many tossers away from the breed. Those who held on to them were the real fanciers. JMHO but the APBT deserves nothing but the best of owners. -
Maintaining My Terriers
neil cooney replied to Mike Lattimer's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
That's them. You'll wash small pin prick holes out the same way with some penicillin in a syringe put into the holes and squirted in. -
Me. I look at the computer most days but I don't dig everyday, so I guess you're right. I am out with my dogs every single day however whether it's a bit of mooching with the lurcher and terriers or shooting over my springer. Regarding being in a book ? As I've never written any books I guess anyone with a few brain cells would guess I'm in them because I was invited to be in them. Anything else you want to know ?

Maintaining My Terriers
neil cooney replied to Mike Lattimer's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
The boys in Cork have been getting it from the states this 5 or 6 years and swear by it but the day before yesterday I asked a nurse had she ever heard of it and she told me she'd treated someones leg injury the day before with it. So it must be available over this side. -
Most breeds are noticeable by their absence. Its not just Borders. You cannot say with any degree of certainty that any dog will not work. Thats madness. The main issue with Borders is that they are later maturers and a lot of people wont give them time, they just get rid and say no good! They start early and they say "too hard!" Regardless of that the majority of dogs whatever they are are bred as pets. They will never be given a chance to do the job they were originally bred for. To do the job they were originally bred for Dawn they have to be bred up to date for that actual job

Preventing Poaching In The Uk
neil cooney replied to CH-SUK's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Welcome to The Hunting Life. After 7 pages of answers to your question did you learn anything ? Also, did you over estimate or under estimate the I.Q. level of the average British poacher, bare in mind that those who probably do a lot of poaching wouldn't come on here telling all ? -
Nope, not in a beating line. If you told me the JRT was better than a springer that was there I'd believe you. But to say he was better than a few being used on a days shooting is a little fairy tale like. Yes, the JRT can be a jack of all trades, but tends to be a master of none.
-
I think you'll find Dawn that most borders WONT work. It's nothing to do with being giving the chance. It's to do with the delusional owners that the breed has been unfortunate enough to end up with. There's some chance still for the JRT as there are still a few lads who have the breed as a worker at heart. You can throw all the fact for this and that Dawn about the K.C. and standards etc. but the fact is that the border is noticeable nowadays in the hunting field by his absence.

The Worst Person You've Took Lamping
neil cooney replied to bob84's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
There's a lot of lads who I'd say if they took Brian May lamping would be coming home on their own. -
They must have been bad springers Stevo, it's as simple as that.
