Of course they'd be turning in their graves Sounder, most of them made themselves out to be legends. They all had the best dogs, they all had a terrier that pulled out a badger after 20 other dogs came away and they all dug trenches 200 foot long and 15 foot deep on their own. And we'll never be able to prove otherwise. It kills me to say this, but because lads will travel far for sport now and with the inter-net and mobile phones it's harder now to tell lies and get away with it than it was even 20 years ago. In those days tales of legendary terriers and terriermen fooled everyone, now

Good to see Mole that you're still PYSL, keep at it. I used badger digging as an example for those who're still at it where allowed. Personally, I've never been lucky enough.

,That's the thing about the question, no disrespect to the original poster, but there is no standard for terrier work. If a lads standard is ratting there's a good chance he'll breed plenty of good terriers,,,,to his standard. If a man likes a terrier that'll bolt a fox but not stay, then he's got a good chance of finding a good one too. If a lad is lucky enough to live in a country where he can legally dig Badger's then he might have to go through a few before finding the one he wants.......................unless doubling or trebling them up is acceptable to him. We have to trust the man

I'd hav classed you as an old timer Neil lol Yeh, thanks a f****n' lot, .

Irish General Election Pro Hunting Parties.
neil cooney replied to jiggy's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Counting is still on going but so far the Greens are back in the Dail with 2 seats and other anti's in are Maureen O Sullivan, the dying looking Clare Daly and her ugly sister Mick Wallace. So, so far there's a few anti's (who are quiet vocal about hunting) in the next Government. -
Can't believe I'm only listening to these lately. They're 21 years on the go. Great song.

Sometimes I think there does be confusion as what eras where considered those of the old timer and the modern era. There's young lads keeping terriers now that would consider you and I, Dillydog, as old fellahs whereas you and I would be talking about lads in their 60s and 70s as the generation before us. IMO the tightening up of bloodlines and the art of good single handed terrierwork started in the 70s into the 80s and IMO the late 80s into the 90s was a golden age of terrierwork. In those years it was possible to go where you wanted without much fear of someone questioning your activi

14 is a good age for any dog let alone a terrier with his attitude.

LOL, I forgot to mention I was usually drunk from the night before, so forgive my memory. Is that the shed with the wooden trough for pissing in ?

Totally disagree with most of that neil, the standard of terriers and their owners as been on the decline for decades.Even in the "good olde days" there was the mischievous chancer on the make and in the mix amidst the many genuine and vastly experienced working terrier folk about.Genuine working terriers were once common and the stamp was never mentioned, workers came ready bred to it.The rosette hunters, the dollar chasers, the internet and the ego are all a modern trait that as swiftly crawled into working terriers, the terrier men of olde, most of them, would not have suffered the fools we take a

You beat me to it Bosun. Seen many's a dog ran to a standstill on the second day there. Good times.

I've always said it and a lot of lads disagree with me, but, there's a better stamp of terrier and a better stamp of terrierman now than in the past. Plus, most of the laws we have now restricting terrierwork were brought in in the late 70s ,early 80s, well before Facebook and similar shite. It was the deeds and methods of old that started the rot within terrierwork that we now pay for. You hear of the legends of old when they had the freedom to do what they wanted, where they wanted. But when you sit them down, have a chat you'll usually uncover the truth. The terrierman of today who ha

Who told you 11 months Micky ?

It's excellent Rob. You even caught the splayed back feet. She looks like she has a pack of hounds right on her brush. Is she a black Red fox or a mutation Arctic fox ?

Personally when filling a reel with new line I load the spool completely with new line. Every time you go fishing you use a bit of line and no matter how tight you trim a blood knot it will snag on a cast and eventually you'll find that blood knot. The only backing I use is on a fly reel.

I thought the vehicle was supposed to be moving when you slipped the dog out the window ?

I knew the link between the Canary and the Isle of Dogs but if the Canary in it's wild state is the Lizard finch, where does that fit in ? Old joke, a cat hi-jacks a plane, holds a gun to the pilot's head and says "take me to the Canaries." I'll get my coat.

There's no money to be made in Ireland at traditional rabbit control as there's dozens of lads willing to do it for free and we don't have massive rabbit numbers. If it was me I'd say she could throw me a bottle of whiskey if she wants to but could I have all the permission to myself.

Any Other Caucasian Ovcharka Owners On Here?
neil cooney replied to HoneyBee's topic in General Talk
Are you sure ? A friend of mine had them in N.I. six or seven years ago. -
Personally I put up a few "No Trespassing" signs and have my still in the middle of it.

Good thinking, make them someone else's problem. Isn't that what the antis do with foxes ????????
