  11. If you want to put your dogs into kennels when you go on holiday the vets have you over a barrel. But the vets wont change anything as its worth too much money to them Like everything with vets, its all about the money Dave.
  12. Yeh let her hunt at her own pace, remember she is still very young so dont be too disappointed if she is not hitting cover hard yet, she will in her own time and then you will have a great little bushing team, if you have any mates with bushing terriers that may spur her on and let her know what its all about will help, but remember its all about building her confidence so no aggressive terriers that will do her confidence more harm than good. ATB Dave.
  13. Outstanding looking dogs mate, looking fit and ready to work ATB Dave.
  14. Hello Lee, welcome to the forum and well done on picking a fine looking springer Pup. Can i just ask what your final goal for the dog is, ie to roughshoot over the dog, trial the dog or to run it with other dogs as a bobery pack. I am only asking because depending on what your plans are for the dog, depends on the type / standard of training required. ATB Dave.
  15. The best way to train it for this kind of work Paul is to do it mate, the more time spent together the more they will work as a team, the pup also needs to build its confidence in cover and the best way is somewhere with plenty of rabbits, so the pup can get a good luck at what its hunting also to hopefuly get a few in its mouth, if the pup is not getting into the cover yet get it out ferreting so it will get a good luck at a few, let it chase them to get it real keen. I do alot of this type of hunting with Lurchers Gundogs and Terriers (grat sport) Any questions, just give me a shout mate.
  16. Best read i have had in years Ned. Excellent Pics and footage mate, dogs look well up for the job and the country is stunning mate. Keep it up ATB Dave.
  17. my keeper mate has one, its the same colour as fudge, but as she had thrown more to the spaniel, it has thrown more to the terrier, he tried using it for bushing and beating but it started going to ground, so he uses it like a terrier now, guess its just the luck of the draw mate. Dave.
  18. Fudge is a Cocker X Beagle/Terrier, but very much hunts like a Cocker, she was a year when i got her and she had run with Terriers, Hounds and Lurchers, so i had my work cut out, she was never going to be the standard i wanted but responded very well to training and surprised me and the lads i shoot with. So much one of the bought her from me, now she wasnt the finished article by any means but coming along nicely and all the basic work was done well away from any prey, but when my mate got her he stopped all training, threw away the whistle and just let her hunt the way she wanted so she n
  19. Nice looking dog mate, how is he doing with his training. Dave.
  20. Was up the Dale on Tuesday with my mate looking for a few Bunnys, but the Mixi that hit late last year and the hard winter has taken its tole on them, and they are getting thin on the ground, which is good for the Keeper but not for my sport. Here are a few pics Fudge retrieveing a rabbit out of the stream, it took some finding in the water A long retrieve nicely to hand, after she had pinched the rabbit from Fern Ended up quite a hot day, so the bunnys will be breeding pretty quickly, the dogs picked up 2 young uns which we let go (but dont t
  21. A bit of compertition might make her a bit keener and never mind what anyone says you can get Labs that hits cover as hard as a spaniel ( i know i have 1, but there is not as many around as i would like to see)mine is a small type and will get through rabbit runs in brambles as good as a terrier if she thinks a bunny is home. The problem is alot of labs wont hunt cover, i think it depends on there breeding even alot of working types just want to retrieve and not hunt. You might also try placing the dummy on the edge of cover when training, then gradually put it further into thicker cover on
