  1. No not yet, infact we are only looking to put our first feeders out for next season. Most of my shooting has been vermin for my local Grouse estate, but i now have 3 farms to shoot any game and a lake. So next season needs to be planned out, with feed hoppers and a feed routine of the lake. This season has been a wash out for me, but i will be back up the Fell shooting vermin as soon as the Game season ends and looking farward to planning out next season and possibly put a few birds down the year after. ATB Dave.
  2. Thats right Dave, if there ever was a good time to break your ankle that was it, as the weather has been pants and Fern went into season. So every cloud and that. ATB Dave.
  3. Thanks lads it was good just to be out, too much food and drink while i have been laid up has done me know good (although i needed the drink just to ease the pain) ATB Dave.
  4. Well after breaking my ankle about 9 weeks ago, i finaly got out for an hours Mooch with my lad and Fern the Lab who has been at bursting point for the last few weeks. Not many Pheasants on this farm (i must put some feeders out for next season)although i did miss a gifted cock bird Fern has lost some condition while waiting patiently for me to get myself pulled together. While hunting she will go through any cover, charge through even the smallest of spaces or clear stock fences with ease. Finally something to shoot at and Fern gets a retrieve. And my lad gets so
  5. Good choice, i can understand your concern about you wanying to train the dog so the dog works for you, but 2 weeks wont make any difference in the scope of the training of the dog. And you know he wont pick up any bad habbits while you are a way, not like leaving him at home. Good luck with him. ATB Dave.
  6. Agree with the above. The Lab x Pointer will be a handy dog, they are becoming popular and i know a few wont go passed them as all round versatile Gundogs and the Beddy Lurcher is without doubt a excellent and popular hunting machine. But putting them together, all i can say is why?, what are you trying to gain from this, each parent is possibly a very good working dog in its field but how will they complement each other and which field will the pups belong to? Other than Gundogs i am also into Lurchers and i like a nice cross breed like the above parents of this potential litter, but
  7. He is looking good Hannah and i am please he has settled down nicely. Start your Gundog training as soon as possible and like you say he is eager to learn so should pic up the basics quickly. Just keep the training sessions short, learning one thing at a time then gradually bringing it all together and i am sure he will do you proud. Good luck with his training and if you hit any problems just ask. ATB Dave.

  22. Nice one hily, how oftern are you having to top up feeders at the minuet mate. Dave.
  23. I wouldn't worry to much pal, sounds like he is finding his feet and testing you a bit, i wouldn't over do the training just short 15 minuet sessions, he still has allot to learn about life then he will settle down i am sure. When he picks back up with his retrieving get him doing some blind retrieves on cold game, this will keep his interest and keep him focused on training. Well done on rescuing the dog, sounds like you are doing well with him. ATB Dave.
