It was a great day yesterday, plenty of sunshine to bring out the attractive fillies. Went with a few mates and we had a good laugh -
Only just noticed this as i've been at the Lincolnshire show all day. Great result and i hope he gets everything he bloody gets. Well done lads

what do you consider the difference to be between the larger and smaller fields? just interested in the whippets capabilities. would the whippets catch during the day if they are sat out in the field? Of course the whippets would catch if they were sat out in the fields mate. The land i run the dogs on vary from 2 acres to 50 acres. The whippets do better in the smaller fields as the rabbits arn't far from the hedges even if there sat in the middle!!, there alot quicker on the turn and keep them away from the hedge better than the saluki x does.

My bitch 'Missi' (line bred Saluki x Greyhound) catches rabbits on the lamp and during the day and she's a nats cock short of 26", She also retrieves them to within 5-10 yds of me. Yes the whippets are a little more agile on the smaller fields, but if there sat out then she picks them up for fun. She's surprises me how quick she can turn for a big dog and she has a good turn of foot. She's from the merlin and eve lines

Hi yeah valid points being honest, and yes I have enough experience with lamp dogs, not decades but enough in season I'm out 4-5 times a week at night and out working them in the day when I feel like it. My dad has 35 year experience and he preferes day time. I know dogs can do both but when you have dogs that hunt up like beagles I can promise it's not an easy transition. I could give a list of dogs I've seen at night that do alot in the day that arnt my cuppa tea. Plus I find with anything it takes practice to know the difference maybe I'm in patient but I think you get a better animal if i

Would only take one to burry that terrier on your profile pick mate Going back to the topic. My whippets work day/night. They ferret, mooch and lamp, none of them hunt up on the lamp as soon as i turn it off there back without hesitation. A few lads have been out with me and i'm sure they will tell you that they hold there own out in the field. I like the whippet as there no trouble in the house and they give 100% in the field and do very well on the land i run them on.

Glad all went well mate, it's always a big weight off your shoulders when everything goes right. Best of luck with the litter

lovely looking dogs you keep mally and in some shape credit to you mate Thanks mate. All the dogs in the photo's in this thread are in top condition and a credit to there owners.

I've never had a problem with my whippets skin on the land i work them on mate, whippets tend to just bounce off fences and with them being quite light injury's seem few and far between. I wouldn't have a dog with any bull in them in my kennels, but it's horses for courses etc.

Good job mate, pleased you went back for them

Electric fence problems
mally replied to 1888andybhoy's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
You have to use a fence unit mate, the positive goes on the fence and the negative goes to ground (you'll need a steel rod knocked in the ground) You will need to link the top wire to the bottom wire so both wire are live. If i was you i would move the wires so there at least 12" away from the pen. Hope this helps -
Farmer should have noticed it mate, afterall stock should be checked everyday. No excuse. I was out lamping on saturday night with my mate and we found a lamb with it's head caught in the wire fence, looked like it had been stuck ages. I got it out and it went and found the ewe thankfully.

Interested in them mate, please pm me what you want for them

hi mate as i hav only just got my first dog 2 hes a 12 week old laguna whippet is it betta to feed raw meat like u say or am i ok boiling rabbit and taking it off the bone? Your better off feeding raw mate, but if your feeding rabbit make sure you freeze it for at least 2 weeks. Obviously defrost it before feeding the dogs. Raw meat is much better than cooked meat as the dogs digestion system is suited to raw better than cooked. Plus when you cook meat your destroying alot of the vitamins.

Totally agree mate, shame the CA turned there back on them though. Hardly surprising really as they turned there back on us lurcher / coursing lads when the ban came along, knowing full well the well to do fox hunting toffs would be ok. Glad they were found not guilty, just hope they get compensated for loss of earnings and the slander the papers printed.

May i ask which bone man??. Had a friend in the same situation with his whippet bitch, she'd knocked a toe up. He took her to Robert Meeks and he gave him this chinese liquid shit to put on the toe and told him he'd beable to run her after 3 weeks. He took his advice and she just pulled up lame, he took her to the greyhound vet Richard Torr (think thats his name) and his bitch had broke her toe and because he tried running her after the 3 weeks it had damaged it beyond saving and the toe had to come off. I don't use any of the clunk click guys now, i only take my dogs to the greyhound vet

The SACS website doesn't give the working dog lads alot of confidence when you can't even put anything on the lurcher/terrier pages since the site was revamped (over 2 years ago). Also a sacs comitee member posted asking for anyone who see's terrier men with spades to call the rozzers!! really gives you confidence doesn't it lol...

I feed a good puppy complete food (chudleys) but skinners is also good and i also feed raw lamb, beef or tripe. I also give a raw chicken wing or lamb ribs (raw) everyday. I'm a great believer of you only get out what you put in, so if you feed the dog the best you can you won't go far wrong mate.
