  1. I should think twice about calling folk thick matey, as for folk calling whippets, for the work i do and the land i work them on they suit me just fine and when lads have been down with there lurchers they haven't caught anymore than my whippets either lamping or ferreting/mooching in fact on a few occasions Vixen has run better. I'm not just a weekend hunter either, my dogs probably see more rabbits in a week than some do in a month. Infact in the huntinglife lamping competition 2010 The heat i ran against longdog runner we caught the most between us in all the heats. Its a FACT
  2. I suppose you have bull x's and tuck your traccy bottoms in your socks!!!! nowt wrong with whippets seeing as it's only legal to hunt rabbits and rats now in the uk they do that job very well indeed. Nice to see you knocking whippets when you make lure machines i think you've just upset 50% of your future customers lol.
  3. If you read my post properly the wires are linked so it's acting as a single wire!!! it's a tried and tested method that's worked for many a year on the same fence unit....
  4. I went along and came home with bugger all bought absolutely nothing!!, Got there at 9am and they didn't open up until 10am. There were parts of the shop sealed off with loads of stock behind and a sign saying not for sale!!. No doubt someone got a few bargins, just nothing i wanted!!
  5. This is Missi, she's coming up 2. Got her a few months ago saw her run a few back end of last season. She picks the rabbits up ok on the lamp roll on October...
  6. I keep mine on 6x on the air rifle. I like my mates doctor scope on his .243 though and thats 8x 56. Can't be arsed with altering them all the time as from experience by the time you've messed about the thing you were going to shoot at has probably done a bunk!!
  7. I'll be there at 8.30 in the morning mate If i know the owner though he'll probably be open on Monday under a different name
  8. Looks that way, i was going to go to the show on saturday but they have cancelled that too. I heard they were in trouble http://www.euroguns.co.uk/
  9. I was working Vixen 3 weeks out of season with no ill effects. It's not the first 3 weeks after a season that is the problem: the softening starts at around a month post season and gets worse and worse until about the 12th week when they come back into shape again: that's always been my experience with bitches of all types. I know that as i said no ill effects. And she was working not holding rabbits in nets!!. Vixen never lost her shape. I know when a dogs not right and when to or not to run them, or at least i hope i do had dogs 27 years now
  10. I was working Vixen 3 weeks out of season with no ill effects.
  11. I've tried the Raspberry Leaf Tablets and they made no difference at all to Vixen. I used the Prevphan from canine Natural Cures for Vixen before, you give one tablet when there standing and one a week for 9 weeks and there was no sign of a phantum. The only reason i didn't use them on her last season is i'd bloody run out.!!
  12. I had exactly the same problem with Vixen my whippet bitch a few weeks ago mate, I tried everything i knew but it didn't help to dry her up so i asked skycat for her advice. She recommended http://www.dorwest.com/Catalogue/Homoeopathic-Remedies/Urtica-Urens-3C-THREE--100-pillules for dorwest herbs. I gave as advised on the tub along with altering her diet she was back to normal within a fortnight. It's now 4 weeks since and she's almost back to full fitness. Will save you a fortune at the vets mate.
  13. I've shot hundreds of rabbits with .22 .177 air rifles as well as rifles too mate, and i only ever go for a head shot, yes the cockers jump about a bit but there dead. I took a friend of a friend out one evening who was a member of 3 or 4 air rifle clubs he shot 3 rabbits in 1 1/2 hrs (missing at least 3!!) by the time he'd messed about with range etc they had buggered off!! i'd have shot at least 12. 2 of the ones he shot were what i'd call clean head shots the other he shot in the chest and it took us 10 minutes to find the bugger in the long grass and it was 12 feet from where he shot it.
  14. I've been out tonight with an air arms s200 in .177 8 headshot rabbits and all but one picked on the spot, the other kicked for 10 seconds and was picked in the hedge bottom. I aim just behind the eye if the rabbits are side on, if there facing away from me with the head up i put one at the back of there head 1/2" lower than the base of there ears. There's no doubt the .22 does hit them harder but the .177 will kill cleanly if you know there limitations.
  15. Why i was held for 14 hours is totally irrelevant, The ferret was held in the back of the van through no fault of its own. The ferret was punished and penalized. A living creature shouldn't be subject to this kind of neglect. I did my best to get my ferret back! I look after my ferrets and care for them a hell of a lot. Have you been to the media? I suspect what will happen between the RSPCA and the police is that you will eventually get a statement or visit from someone senior saying someone has been 'severely reprimanded' or similar, and that will be it. With the media involved i
  16. Doesn't matter what dog it is if your going to excersice it regular then theres a very good chance that it will be quiet in the kennel. If you leave it on its own for hours on end then it may very well whine/bark the place down. Never ever though i'd agree with you Lab pmsl I like to add some sense in with all the pish.........next sensible post pencilled in around late August, look out for it.......... Your right though Lab, The amount of folk who contact me having problems with whippet pups being noisy and doing the wall of death around there living room, when asked how fa

  18. Mine live in and out mate, There kennelled outside during the day and sleep in at night. I don't know i've got them as long as they get there walk in a morning and evening they just chill in the run all day. Just make sure they have a draught proof sleeping area in the run with plenty of bedding during the winter months and they should be fine.
  19. Let me know how you get on later at the vets mate
  20. i know .he aint .but he will put most vets to shame when it comes to diagnosing skeletal and soft tissue injurys Wouldn't let him treat any of my dogs mate, i've 2 mates with dogs without toes due to going to Robert first instead of a good greyhound vet first, Every injury Robert treats he tells them to rest for 3 weeks and then they will be ok!!! Horse's for course's mate but i certainly wouldn't recommend him
