  1. I'm a great believer in trotting a dog at the side of a bike or car on a road or track to get it fit before the season starts as it helps firm everything, getting it ready for the knocks and bumps it's going to encounter during the season. Once the season is underway the more you put in front of the dog the fitter it will become. A good quality diet is also essential.
  2. I use old rubber conveyor belting and that doesn't cause any burns or rubbing mate. The belting i get is 3/4" thick i cut it to size with a wood saw and i don't have to battern it down as it's that heavy the dogs can't move it. I have just a small opening to the kennel 14" wide by 20" high and my dogs don't seem to knock themselves.
  3. That's what i thought, When i did my kennels i did mine falling towards the door with a drain channel to the drain to a septic tank, that way you can brush out any leaves or bedding before it gets in the drain. I have old rubber conveyor belting in the dog beds in the summer and add some old blankets in the winter months. I'm not keen on straw or that paper bedding as it gets bloody everywhere.
  4. A few photo's of my Whippets Sagar Vixen
  5. To rear a litter of puppies well isn't cheap, however the price of one pup will almost cover all the costs associated with rearing and registering a full litter. Just to give you all an idea Stud fee £100-£200 1 bag puppy food £30.00 Raw beef/Lamb 120lbs (for bitch and pups) £56 goats milk £40.00 Registration @ £12 a pup (thats what it cost me 2 years ago not sure how much it is now) Wormer etc £30 electric (heatlamp) £70 if your giving out about the price of food for pups etc why bloody breed in the first place ..........simple its all the money READ through the post dic
  6. i'm not a fan of the kc either but, as non peds and kc whippets come from the same beginnings many moons ago as the non peds clearly outperform the peds on the racetrack at least it could be argued that they have already spoiled the breed, they do breed truer to type cosmetically ie coat, shape size etc but are they that important The non peds may out perform the pedigree dogs on the racetrack, but i can't see them out performing the the kc dogs in the field as the non peds i've seen seriuosly lack the stamina required for work in the field, unless your just giving them a couple of runs
  7. Both look tidy dogs mate, Goodluck with the whippet bitch in the forthcoming season
  8. i dare say one would suit you very well mate. im very much looking forward to seeing them at work. You will be made welcome mate, I hope you enjoy seeing them work and i think you might be a little surprised.... I'm always happy to take likeminded folk out and to give advice to anyone who asks for it.
  9. I don't know you and you obviuosly don't know me with what your implying, however i will answer you questions A show bred pup will cost from £400-£600, a working bred pup anything from £300- £600 (both kc registered) I have the stud dog on my profile to show responsible people that my dog is available, i have my website to show people what working whippets can do and what they should look like. Do i have a puppy for sale page??? No i don't!!. I breed when i want a pup myself, hence not very often so can't see the point in having a puppy page. I say it how it is and speak my mind,
  10. Your more than welcome to come and see mine working mate
  11. I use the panacur 10% dog worming liquid mate 3 times a year and drontal just the once. I'm not convinced drontal does the job 100%. I also give the panacur 10% everyday for a week (at the recommended dose) to treat for lungworm every May. I also give the advocate in May, that treats worms but not tapeworm.

  13. My friend applied for his firearms renewal November last year and he's only just got it back!! that was 6 months mate. So i wouldn't be holding your breath, they are very very slow in nottinghamshire at the moment and they are getting really strict, i know of 3 lads who have put in for there renewals of there shotgun certificates who have been refused because of past convictions...
  14. You are right mate, never thought i'd agree with you but you are right. The problem with me is i'm passionate about the whippet and my whippets and it boils my piss when folk are just breeding for the numbers and not thinking about the lines and what they are breeding from. They sell to anyone who has the money. The amount of whippets that are ending up in rescue centres is very worrying at the moment, and it's all down to over breeding and breeders selling whippets to unsuitable homes. I try and help out all i can in there fundraising events by donating photo shoots for them to auction o

  16. If the working whippet breeders keep breeding like there doing it will be them responsible for ruining the breed mate, there breeding everything a whippet shouldn't be, and breeding from dogs with known faults and breeding mother x son etc etc. As for breeding hardblood whippet, i just can't see the point in that. if there breeding workers hows that a problem a rossette only tells u that someone likes your dog a potfiller tells you your dog loves you and his job would u say its easier to get working whippet pups or show breed as for hardblood i agree mate I like

  18. Cheers Mate, Matt did a great job rearing the litter. All pups now sold to good homes
  19. Really nice bitch mate, all the best with her.
  20. I let a pup have about 10 minutes free running twice a day from 12 weeks old (on walks) it's running around the house during the day as well. I don't allow pups to free run with adult dogs as they can really overdo things and get knocked up. I increase the free running as the pup gets older as well as the road walking, although i don't do too much roadwork with a pup under 6-7 months. Feel free to drop me a pm anytime mate. What works for one dog may not work for another, however i don't believe in overdoing it with a pup, if you know your dog's you'll know how much they will take exercis
  21. I got one a couple of years ago mate.
  22. He advertised it one here mate for nothing before he put it on ebey , if only you looked a couple of days earlier..
  23. I feed skinners Field and Trial duck and rice to my whippets mate and i feed them around 7oz (depending on there workload i'll increase/decrease accordingly. I would say 300g (12oz) is about right. I'd feed this for a few days and keep an eye on the dog if it looks like it's losing weight increase it. Hope this helps
  24. Gaz, why don't you make a mesh door that opens inwards and fit it to the inside of the frame leaving the original solid door on, That way if the weathers nice you can leave the solid door open, and if it's cold close it.
  25. Running a dog thats still growing is just asking for trouble in my opinion, the tendons are still soft and developing. You may not see a problem at the time but theres a very good chance the dog will be knackered by the time it's 4-5 years old. The last 2 pups i've entered have both caught on there very first run on the lamp, one was 10 months old the other was 11 months old. Some may say this was down to just luck, but i disagree. I knew the dogs were ready both mentally and physically and they proved it. It's very tempting to start a young dog too young, many say take it out with ano
