I read something on some thread a while ago that prick ears are a sign of bad breeding, it narked me a bit I wouldn't say it was a sign of bad breeding, Race bred whippets often have stick up ears as do a few from working lines. I must admit though i'm not keen on seeing ped whippets with stick up ears. Below is four generations of my whippets, Grandmother, daughters and son.

Mally i picked one up last year and have only used it for minor knocks and tears, i have never put the dog in one once home from a shift on the beam however i shall try it. Have you ever used one for conditioning a dog as in the instructions it mentions " pre race conditioning/toning i think " ? So was wondering if it could be of use for getting a dog fit pre-season ( i only keep lamping dogs ) ? Cheers Atb And Sandymere if Paul Evans recommends them, then that's good enough for me ( and incase you don't know who he is, he,s a specialist running dog vet locally and very well respected ).

Totally agree Millet. I have seen a significant difference in the dogs after a hard nights lamping i put the dog in overnight on number 2 and where they may have been a little stiff in the morning they arn't anymore, and as you say it speeds up the healing in cuts and muscle injuries. I wouldn't be without mine

Advice on feed when getting dog fit for season
mally replied to tomo_926's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I feed Chudleys Greyhound racer with raw lamb, beef or chicken throughout the season and increase the quantity according to there workload. Chudleys isn't the cheapest greyhound racer but It's the best I've found, it keeps weight on the dogs and they do well on it. -
Not even going to bother reading that sandymere, everyone has there opinion. All i know is my dogs and it helps them. Plus if you walked down the trainers vehicles at the waterloo cup you would find that 90% of them had portamags in there vans. I asked Paul Evans about them before i purchased mine and he highly recommended them, that was good enough for me.

I wouldn't be without mine, Excellent piece of kit if used correctly. I don't just use it for treating injuries, if the dogs have had a hard nights lamping i pop them in on number 2 over night and you wouldn't think they had ever been out in the morning, there ready for a days ferreting.

bud ya tuck the words from my mouth cant stand peole that lamp in the summer they have no respect for there game shame on yas I lamp all year round on a couple of my permissions which are grassland just to keep the farmer and shepherds happy and keep the dogs ticking over and no one has more respect for there quarry as i do. If i didn't show my face a couple of times a month throughout the summer they would find someone else to do the rabbits on there land. Not only that it keeps the ferrets fed throughout the summer and there's always plenty about for winter time.

For Sale Whippet Pups kc registered working parents ALL SOLD
mally replied to mally's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
Due to timewaisters the blue dog is still available. He's one of the best blue's I've seen, he's plenty of bone and is going to make some dog. Really needs to go to a good home now and settle in hence £300 no offers. 'Sagar' sire to the pup. -
Leave it a couple of weeks and in that time get a rabbit skin and put it around the dummy. Once a dog has learned to retrieve there isn't any need to give them retrieves every day just once a week and only a couple at that. Otherwise you could sicken the dog. Hope this helps

Blue dog still available -
I don't let my whippets see a rabbit in anger until there at least 9 months old, there still pups even at that age and are both mentally and physically immature. You'll easily ruin a dog running it too young. Dogs are slower to mature than bitches, i'd let him be a pup for another 4 months and then take him out on the lamp for a couple of easy runs.

I bought a baikal 627e o/u second hand years ago as my first gun and it's still going strong. There a no frills gun but make sure it's nice and tight (hasn't got a headache) as they can be tricky and expensive to repair. Also make sure the wood on the fore end is in good condition and not cracked as these are hard to source. Other guns to consider are the Lanber sporting M/C or the Browning Medalist M/C but as above make sure there nice and tight. If you have a generous budget then there is the Browning 425 and Beretta silver pigeon along with dozens of other guns, however i've just

I feed Chudleys Greyhound from July - March along with a little raw lamb, tripe or beef. I wouldn't feed anything else, i've tried the rest and always gone back to the chudleys. Dogs to well on it and look well on it. Yes it's more expensive than some of the other racers but whats a couple of quid when the dogs look and run well on it. I feed skinners field and trial duck and rice 24% from March-July as the dogs arn't doing much work wise. There's no point feeding the 27-28% protein if your not running the dogs. In the early 90's i used to feed redmills racer, it was the best food on t

I use express 42g 1's in my semi auto with 1/2 choke. I shoot a fair few foxes whilst the farmers are cutting the rape and corn and as long as you keep ranges to under 45 yards they drop on the spot. I always shoot them in the engine room (chest). The best about the express 42g 1's is they are a 70mm cartridge another cartridge to consider are the victory mini magnum 40g 1's or 3's, my local gunshop sells them for £7.50 a box. The most important thing is not to try and shoot foxes at silly ranges, i've seen guns on game shoots, shooting at foxes at ranges over 70yds with 30g 6's which
