  1. looks like i,m a tackle tart then, i use trammels for all my daytime ferreting ,(ordinary ones for night work ) it certainly helps hold the rabbits when you work alone like i do, i had way to many rabbits in and out of a normal net while i was busy with the first one and the dog is taught to stand over a netted rabbit , not crush the crap out of one, i,m not saying for one minute that every rabbit is held , but i certainly get a better percentage , i have had 7 rabbits in a net in less than a minute and the trammels held them all, everyone to there own , but you shouldnt knock it til you try i
  2. As you can see on this picture (one of yours Mr. Mapreader) the top line has sagged quite a bit with the rabbit, i have never found this on a traditional set net. i,m interested to know exactly how you would stop this happening on a traditional net , rabbithunter? good pictures mapreader and an interesting point about trying fibre glass poles and reverting back to hazel, i used to use hazel , fixed poles when i first saw gsw,s video , then got a few magnum poles to try , but didn,t like the thickness, i now use 9mm fibre glass poles for all my nets , strong but not to bulky, they are
  3. Is that your scientific conclusion then Moley? It's fairly obvious that not ALL BOP's are being persecuted, but I think we all know what goes on. no , simply an observation by someone who lives and works in the countryside, i personally think that if an animal or bird is causing a problem , then we should be able to solve that problem,i don,t however think that bop,s should be killed for killings sake,
  4. when your on my wages , every penny counts, alright for you millionairs
  5. i have a mk 3 fenn thats as strong , if not stronger than alot of new springers, i was useing it up til a few years back when i found out it had a value, just goes to show that uk workmanship isn,t as good these days as it once was
  6. if so many bop,s are getting shot and poisoned , why are there still so many around ? it don,t make sense , around here the sparrowhawk , barn owl , tawny owl , little owl, buzzard and kestrel numbers have increased in the last 15 years, especially buzzards, theres also a kite bin kicking about for the last couple of years, this year i have also seen a hobby and twice a hen harrier ,and all these sitings were in the middle of a grouse moor that is surrounded by other grouse moors, on the same moor , i see buzzards every time im up there, if they are all getting shot and poisoned , could i have
  7. As much as i hate to say i was wrong.. i was.. .. but id still like to see some picture of the trap's set in there chosen spot.. What do you mean by that mate as you have me puzzled here.. Millet
  8. now if you stop pissing about with silly old traditional style net , you wouldn,t have this problem if you still had a quickset there could be any number of things stopping you getting a good kill ,go and have a look at the field with a lamp at different times of night , see what time the most rabbits are out and work it out from there i have the flip up system and unless you walk on top of it (usually)its hard to see, before you flip it up that is, i still don,t like leaving it unattended for too long, best to set it up and hang around near by til its dark enuff to get on
  9. glad you can admit to being wrong millet , otherwise we could all be bickering like the "one eyed cat " did you ever get your reward ?
  10. it just goes to show how ignorant the general public are about trapping, i have an american video that shows foothold traps in use, the trappers are releasing trapped animals that are non the worse for thier experience , hundreds of otters have bin relocated in america by using footholds into areas that didnt have any at all the released otters are breeding well, now the us government wouldn,t allow animals to be trapped this way if they could not be released unharmed . millet , i don,t agree with shooting phesants out of season , yet you put a picture up a while ago of some partridge and a
  11. don,t worry , i can connect , but i aint shooting thru bushes, poor woody was a bit frustrated tho, i think he wanted to make an impression on the does as this place hasnt bin shot properly for 3 years and the guy that had the stalking before him got kicked off for not shooting does , the first year he shot 35 bucks , but hasn,t shot hardly anything in 2 years
  12. Yep I agree , but the place this doe was shot , it is impossible to get any closer due to the topography of the ground. You have to shoot from above the deer , if you try and get any closer you totally lose them from sight. tell me about it, a mate of mine has just took on 3000 acres of roe stalking on a local estate, we were sat out early this morning , saw 6 does in just a small block of woodland , couldn,t shoot a bloody thing cos of all the bracken and rodadendrons, even from one of the many high seats , gotta keep trying tho
  13. :11: you want a garmin e tex gps , there about £100 , or about £60-£ on ebay , i don,t think they are accurate to 2 meters , but i was told they can get you to within 6 meters, you can also rig them up to your pc and print off as a map with the locations as red X,s , apparently ,i,m gonna get one meself
  14. im fishing off hartlepool on friday , bait fishing over rough ground, i hope its nice and calm
  15. i keep them in a small net while fishing and have an airator aswell , i was meaning that the net takes of scales and they just don,t seem to last too long , could be stress ??
  16. just don,t over do it , i found that once the bait fish have bin in the net they loose quite a few scales and don,t survive for long , also , other anglers don,t like us predator fishers catching "their" fish for bait, but its ok to knock "our " pike on the head
  17. i got one about 4 years ago ,6 footer about 1/4 ich mesh ,if you bought it new it should have instructions with it, there quite easy to use but if you throw it a few times you get fairly smelly and wet , i found a few different ways to throw it , so i don,t get covered in stinking crap from the lake bed, saves loads of time trying to catch bait, if you bait up an area for about an hour then throw , you should get stacks of bait with one chuck.
  18. what a pity we cannot use footholds over here, it could save on alot of time and effort
  19. Moley, you will have to take a trip darn south and learn the ways of the force. no way , the edge of the world is just past ripon
