  1. About 18 months ago a cat came into my garden. My lurcher was in the garden and the cat didnt know what had hit it, needless to say the cat never left the garden. Now i dont like cats but i would never purposely set a dog on a cat and I contacted the owner telling her what had happened. too cut a long story short, I had a visit from the local bobby and he told me that the only thing I had done wrong was too be honest and what i should have done was buried it in the garden. I havent had anymore cats in the garden since though and the roses are doing nicely
  2. When you are searching for the ferret have the knob turned to the right, this is the widest search range. When you get under 8ft change to locate. When you have located the area in which the ferret is slowly turn the knob to the left this will narrow the receive area eventually giving you the exact point at the ferret is located.
  3. Sorry to hear of your loss mate. Where about are you from?
  4. Please tell me you are joking and not being a complete idiot
  5. Cracking pictures mate. Thats real dedication for you
  6. For working I do prefer white ferrets but I have a soft spot for polecats and silvers. I did get a pure polecat jill and hob this year and for looks I dont think you can beat them.
  7. I was back out again on Saturday and after me saying there were lots about on my ground we only managed to flush one but we did see a dozen or so snipe
  8. I havent even seen any rabbits in kit yet. They do breed all year now apparently
  9. If there is a badgers sett within the warren you really should leave well alone. As you are probably aware disturbing a badgers sett is a criminal offence and all it will take is one of tree hugging brigade to see you and contact the police and you could be in for some serious grief. If it is a badgers sett there will be old bedding outside, possibly straw or leaves. I have a few warrens that have badger setts within them and i dont ferret them.
  10. Whys that then? Do you prefer blokes
  11. ok, my mistake, they must of changed it, but it does give you bigger picture space, 500k for members, 700k for donators ???? im a donator and only get 500k

  13. I brought a 50 yd quickset longnet this year from the cla game fair last year and I have to say i dont know how i ever got by without one. In the last 3 trips its caught 17 rabbits. I have now ordered another 100yd net and i wont ever go ferreting without them.
  14. I brought a quick set one this year at the CLA anddont know how i ever got by without one
  15. I used to feed my ferrets chudleys ferret food supplemented with the odd rabbit and pigeon but after someone mentioned on here that it messes the ferrets teeth up, I decided to do a bit more investigating. I now feed them only rabbit and pigeon with the odd pheasant and duck thrown in. My opinion is that dry food should only be used as a standby and there are alot better alternatives.
  16. I was up bright and early this morning and picked the father in law up about 7:30. I spoke to a farmer friend last night and he asked me if I would take a look at a warren next to his stock pond, so off we went arriving just as it got light. The warren we were doing is on a bank which has in the past been used for dumping all sorts of rubbish from tin sheet to concrete slab there are also alot of logs and branches from when we cleared the pond in march last year and the rabbits had taken refuge in them as well. We netted up the 'tip' and I ran the long net out around the logged area and entere
  17. Ild Say a week or so Id have to agree Rod&dog the more time you can leave between clearing and ferreting the better.
  18. What make are you using at the moment?
  19. I've got one in the freezer as its the first one I've shot and want to see if it tastes as good as people say - Anyone got any recipes? They are delicious mate. Probably the nicest bird to eat, just a pity they are not the size of a goose. My mate cooks them with the insides still in and then when cooked he pulls them out and spreads on a nice bit of crutsy bread/toast. Never tried that part myself but he swears by it. We had them as a starter for christmas day. They were part cooked in the oven and then finished off in a brandy and cream sauce Absolute heaven I know its tradit
  20. My Ex...... No on second thoughts that would actually be a cave not a rabbit hole
  21. Me and the wife often go out together... It gives us both a break from the kids
  22. If you havent got the time to clean them every day fella then dont bother getting ferrets. They can be fed on dry although meat is best but with meat especially in the summer it has to be removed daily. My advice to you is to read as much as you can and to ask as many questions as you want and after a few months then make your decision whether you have the time and inclination for ferrets. There a quite a few knowledable people on this forum who are only too willing too help.
