  1. The gun to choose is the one that feels "right".... With your budget you could buy the gun of choice and have enough left over for a cheap semi auto
  2. the mentor condition is a guideline not a lawful requirement as such each force will use it or not dependant on circumstances Mentoring is not either a home office or ACPO guideline.....
  3. I wouldnt use sandpaper... I would use wire wool....
  4. i have had a look through a few books and it is possibly an American Gun Company sbs.
  5. firstly congratulations on getting your FAC. My thoughts were, if he didnt think that you were experienced enough. Why didnt he put mentoring conditions on your license? Secondly the ricochet excuse is in my mind is a load of bollocks because as previously stated, if there is no safe backstop then the shot should not be taken. I love the 22 rimmy but because of the ricochet problems i believe it to be one of the most dangerous rounds in respect of its unpredictability. On more than one occasion i have had a round go through a rabbit and bounce and I use winchester subs. I have never had a 17 b
  6. I do llke the CZ's but my personal personal preference is the Ruger 10/22 and Anshultz in 17hmr.
  7. Im 42 years old and regret not doing a game keeping course when I was younger. My advice is follow your heart and do something that you will enjoy because if you don't you will only regret it later down the line....... Good luck with what ever you decide.
  8. I have this scope for sale but dont know how much t is worth. Has anyone any ideas?
  9. Your only choice is an air rifle...... You cannot/should not be using live rounds in any enclosed space because of the danger of ricochets.
  10. Has someone been watching Sons Of Guns?
  11. As Mooch has said it is not about the money. If it were then there would be very few pickers up or even beaters. I prefer to work my dog than to shoot pheasants and would do it for nothing if it was a choice between working he dog or not working him....... oh and I get paid £20 on a 100 bird shoot and £30 on a 200 +
  12. My personal preference is the semi automatic. As previously said, yes they are noisier because of the action slamming backwards and forwards when it ejects but the noise is negligible and i haven't noticed it disturbing the rabbits. With regards to accuracy....... I don't dispute that when shooting at 200yds+ that this could be an issue but the ranges for which the 22 is used, there should not be an issue with accuracy. if you have alot of rabbits on the ground then the speed and shot capacity of the semi auto is a bonus. With regards to jamming. If you keep your magazines free from di
  13. Herts and Beds do not send our reminders anymore. They say that it should be the responsibility of the license holder to know when their license is up for renewal and to allow enough time to receive it. I recently did a change of address on line and received my updated licences in 2 days. The licence length is 5 years for both SGC and FAC.
  14. The changing from a target FAC to a sporting FAC may require a varition if you require expanding ammuntion. Expanding ammunition will not be granted for target shooting, so you will be limited to solid bullets only and shooting solids at rabbits is just asking for the bullet to pass through the quarry and then ricochet.
  15. I use a 6-9 harris swivel bipod on all my rifles. I started off using the cheaper fixed models but soon changed them after using my mates swivel type. It saves having to level up your cross hairs using your fingers or adjustng the legs.
  16. Speaking to a guy in the sportsman gun centre, he reckons the rounds will be about a pound each...... hardly what would call an all rounder.
  17. A silencer is not essential but it is recommended because it does suppress the crack to a hardly audble phut. This will give you the possibility of more shots over an unsurpressed shot. As for moderators...... You cant go wrong with a SAK. They are cheap, light and strippable.
  18. The foxes are not to blame around here because we are on top of them. Most of the rabbits around here live in ditches and im wondering if they got flooded out. To give you an idea of the drop in numbers. This time last year we had killed over 1800, same time this year 500. I know you can only kill them once but for the last 5 years we have averaged about 1800 by this time every year and over harvest we shoot at least 500-700. I get £1/ rabbit that is head shot. The most ive delivered to the game dealer is 20 and 7 of those came off her land and we dont get paid for them.
  19. Hi Guys....... I shoot aprox 3000 acres and this year I have noticed a decline in rabbit numbers. My personal belief is that the wet weather through the summer has had a drastic effect on the resident population. Has anyone else noticed the same?
  20. I have for sale my DSLR. 15mp camera, 2 x lenses + filters, 2x batteries+ charger, remote control, tripod + case (this is broken) Excellent condition £350 (bedfordshire) 07803370130
  21. Was ths the only dog on site?..... A couple of years ago i tried to have my mates lurcher mate with my bitch. She wouldnt let him any where near her but he also had an american bulldog and we had to stop her getting to him. My thoughts were that maybe they know which dog is the alpha male.
  22. We rear our own and sell to our syndicate so to speak and the cheapest we can do them, taking into account the rise of feed prices, gas etc etc the price is £3.75. That works out at very little profit.
  23. how do they expect me to know, you have to start somewhere, i thought i would post her becoz it full of experienced people. but i see it has it part of snobs, which think they are superior Its not a case of people being snobby or a case of people being superior..... If you are a responsible person (and i am not passing judgement) then you would learn about these things first. You would not drive a car without first learning to drive..... The best book i can recommend is James Mckay. This is full of information from housing to illnesses and everything in between. One other thing.....
