doddsy1970 replied to sureshot's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Im 99% certain that when they were advertised in the airgun mags they where highlighted as " For Fun Use Only" -
I use triangular hardwood pegs because they are easy to obtain and make. I make them in differing sizes and thicknesses for different types of ground. I.E. If the groung is sandy i use a long thick peg and if it is hard i have nets with thinner pegs on them

Are they in cages or a court mate because although not a cure fly paper can help in a court and around cages if they are under cover

Micky, I would like to know where I have gone wrong, I have had ferrets for a number of years and had some success with litters in the past. Please,I'm interested to learn how I could have got it so wrong. I am sure all those who keep ferrets are awaiting with bated breath for your comments. I know I am As I said earlier in this post I apologise if my language offended any other people but it really gets my back up when people can judge someone without knowing the facts. I have just had 2 more litters out of my jills and right or wrong I start handling them from 3 or 4

not what he did. You must be one of those Internet hunter pricks, who knows all but knows nothing How can you be so judgemental without knowing the facts? What makes you such an expert? I have read alot of smudgers posts and regard him as a knowledgeable ferreter who only has the welfare of his ferrets at heart!!! And you have the nerve to come on here and slag him off.... How f*****g dare you!! It's knobs like you with remarks like that which create problems for all of the hunting fraternity. I suggest you piss off and go and stick on your Watch With Mother DVD!!!!!!!!!! P.S.

doddsy1970 replied to mooster's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
My jills are causing me headaches at the moment. Since a select few have been pregnant and the others were nobbled by a hobble There have been times when i thought world war 3 had started. Ive had to seperate them until their hormones have slowed down. Strange thing is they were all sleeping together before they gave birth etc etc -

I use a beddy cross not only for ferreting but all my shooting as well. She even comes beating with me and flushes as well as any of the spaniels on the shoot. The only problem is, is that she is slightly hard mouthed. Apart from that she for me is almost perfect, she marks, she retreives and she is steady when things are slow.

It was one of the biggest buzzes ive had in a long time

We lost a dozen pheasants at the weekend. Killed in their pen and with no signs of digging or holes around the outside it meant only one thing.......... MINK!!!!! Totally brassed off, I went and brought some live squirrel traps and set them around the pen on some likely looking runs baited with rabbit. I laid the traps Monday and have been checking them twice a day everyday but they have been untouched. Until tonight when I went to my first trap and saw it had been sprung by one of those evil black stinkers. To say I was over the moon was an understatement, there in the cage was a hissing, spi

Cheers for that ladies and gents. I had always presumed that there were always more hobs than jills born but looking at the results of this I was wrong.

I was there on Sunday and the highlight of the day was that noisy b@$&"d in that truck ending up on its roof
-
What problems did you have with it al? I think the s410 is second only to the weihrauch hw100t. It is smooth, accurate and excellent build quality and you get planty of shots out of it.

jeez mate, that silver ferret is a cracker, Where in Ireland can i get one like that? would pay top dollar for it Shame mate I have 7 silver kits you could have one for nothing
-
Out of all the kits born to folks ferrets on here. I'd be interested to know the hob/jill ratio I have 22 kits 12 hobs and 10 jills.

Watch any 'Survival' programme about the shit that lives and thrives on the Serrengetti. Hunting Dogs to Warthogs. They all get down holes when it's hot up top. The sun can only bake the lands crust - and anything exposed up there. But any depth of earth brings coolness. That's where the polecats get to. Thus I've always wondered about the worth of digging out a sub terrain chamber for ferrets kept out in the enviroment. Somewhere at least a foot beneath the surface and with a small entrance. Bettcha they'd be comfortable in there Ditch, I looked in to and thought very carefully abo

Do you not find it exciting building the court? I found that I just went with the flow and let it take shape without having a plan
-
My lurcher wouldnt so i put her in the court and she got nipped a few times now she is as good as gold

Im not going to get into a slagging match with you but looking after your ferrets means cleaning every day, Feeding every day, watering every day and if you were doing that you would have noticed the water bottle not functioning ie not going down and that should have raised questions in your own mind not to mention that water bottles should be changed daily to stop algae growth!!
-
I say it how I see it. I also said if I was wrong I would apologise. A faulty water bottle would and should be picked up straight away, In my mind that is negligence and bad management.
-
if you can afford to use 223 ammo on pigeons then do it. But it is a bit of a sledge hammer nut scenario. Nice shooting though
-
Devvo i'm going to say something that you probably won't like......... Your ferrets seem to have more problems with them than anyone elses on here.Maybe you should take a look at your husbandry and how your ferrets are kept!! This is just my opinion and if I am wrong then I will apologise but its just the impression you give with some of your questions.
