  3. Ever heard the term 'eyes greedier than your belly'...obviously this fellow had'nt!
  4. On the rivers I always use at least one dropper. The Black and Peacock or Partridge and Orange always has done well for me. On the point i can think of no finer fly than a Greenwell's Glory. I tie my own, and it sure is a good feeling knowing you have fooled the trout ona fly of your own making....
  5. OK Guys, we do not need more moderators, We need the good guys, of which there are many, to simply press the REPORT button and it will be dealt with...Many thanks to those members who are helping rid the site of undesirables, I'm sure it will bounce back with the injection of some decent threads. Watch this space....
  6. NICE...... Those wild red's are flighty bugger, you did well to get that close for a photo, the terrain does look a bit rough!...Thanks for sharing.
  7. I'm sure we will be having a BIG clear out soon...... Just before the 'silly season' starts. Good Hunting Folks....JD
  8. Just found an old plug the other day as i was sorting out some spinning tackle. Unbelievably this little wooden plug is 20 years old and i can still remember buying it from the local tackle shop. I know that this much-chewed plug is not much to look at, but the pike certainly used to be fooled. One in particular i remember followed the plug in as i worked it with rod held high to skim the top of the weed. A 5lber snatched it from right under the rod tip that made me jump! It was a good job i didnt have a dickie heart! I didnt ever get anything 'big' on this little plug, but who cares, the me
  9. GORDY here i come! Literally!

  10. Jack, I'd say Ginger! Well done! Get them in the freezer!
  11. Fished a new gravel pit this afternoon that i was told had some pike in. One rod on the float, the other on the leger. Managed to get a very fat 8lb 4oz pike that was obviously heavy with eggs. She snaffled a small mackerel and was only just hooked. I missed two further runs on the float rod and i presume the pike were tackle wary, but the bankside didnt look like it had been fished much at all. I will be going back over the next few months so hopefully winkle out a personal best if i can... Tight Lines JD
  12. The barbel are VERY hard to catch matey. I have fished there and there was plenty of small silvers as well as some better chub. Looks very p***y too.....
  13. Ryno, are you trying to breed these birds or just want them for the aviary? Cheers
  14. My apologies then, that must be how they are meant to be, but i suppose it is all down to personal preference at the end of the day. The wire i have handled has been very soft indeed. Maybe those i saw were a bad batch. Not that I know anything much about the subject but i suppose a trap thats catching must be a good trap... Happy Trappng Fella's....
  15. bethel rhodes make or a very good trap, i used to use nothing else, i would find it difficult to beleive they have started making shite traps after all these years, Hi Moley, now i know nothing about traps really, but the wire is so soft it is very very easily bent. Perhaps they have changed their wire? Who's to say. Were the ones you used very soft?
  16. From what i understand it was something called a 'duffus type' from Bethel Rhodes. But the make surely doesnt bear a difference, though i will say i have handled a Bethel Rhodes and it was pure crap! The wire was very, very soft and , apparently, needs tuning everytime it goes in the ground. Modern BR are not a patch on Flatpack, but i'm speaking as someone inexperienced in such matters, but anyone can tell cheap build quality.
  17. OK, you busted me....They were covered in syrup them rolled in glitter!
  18. This came about a mile from the last silver mole apparently....... Bloody lovelly pair they will make if they end up at the taxidermist. Happy Silver hunting... JD
  19. you love the white black dogs you gimp.... very similar to you thoughts on "girls" who are hiding cocks! Shhhh! or you won't get your little present!! But seriously, colour has never mattered to me,after all, you can't see a dogs coat in the dark.... Good Hunting, whatever the colour! ...JD
  20. Putting a black dog over a white bitch can give you ANY colour. I have seen a litter of six that had 2 whites, a choc and three blacks in it, bred from a black dog to a white bitch. Litter before had 2 choc and 3 blacks. It all depends on what genes are in the 'black' you are going to put over the white. I have also seen, on numerous occasions blacks and chocs mated to give white pups... But i believe there has to be the white gene present on both sides for this to happen. Chances are that most terriers have a drop of 'white' in them somewhere if you look far enough back. . Funny how ev
  21. An emotive topic for sure. Just one thing i have found about insurance. I can absolutely guarantee the vet will put the dog through more suffering if it is insured that if it wasn't. The vet isn't there to help you, or your dog. The vet is there to help himself. Please do not ever think otherwise. Helping your dog is ONLY a byproduct of the vet helping himself in a large proportion of cases. Unless you are a good friend then things are, of course, different....JMO...JD
