bird replied to Ferretman65's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
hope the dog ok, looks fast is it a whippet, some times with ferreting , the bolters can be just as testing or more than a lamped rabbit, as rabbits norm on the move as dog gets to it lamping, a bolter straight out the blocs. what type injury was it .? -

Took him to day pts , he was 14 , he was coming to the end of his life, he did have cancerous growth by his bum, but he was just worn out, and getting weaker, so i done the right thing for him i think. he was brill rabbit dog day/night, he taught Buck to jump, mark and find rabbits, birds in cover , Buck will miss very much, they were good mates. i did struggle at times with Bryn temp , being typical collie minded lol, R I P you old bugger .

Do you really think sandy, that keeping active in old age is the way to go lol. I was out for 2 1/2 hours mooching with Buck this early morning, the lads I was with think like you, that you got to keep at'um lol, it OK for them there near 20 years younger than me, I feel my 69 years now haha, but I do think in all honesty that me been with lurchers / lamping for 30 odd years as deff, helped to keep me ticking over ?

Thanks mate, yeh he still out there getting bit of exercise, funny enough, I was out with him early this morning having look about, was out 2 1/2 hours, a real good mooch about, he went flat out in few woods, he caught fair bit of stuff in the dark, he got great nose, as most gsds have. Just put him back in his kennel with a beef bone. The lads I was with thought he looked in good nick for a 9 year old dog, and even though he big lump 28in 88 odd lb he moves quite quick, couple of the smaller beddy types were following him about, they know he find and knock stuff out of cover. thats what i thought , bloody hell i am 70 next year, hope i make i and longer. i Remember reading years back in the EDRD about his beddy type x Spud, he said Spud did few foxes, and was ok, even though he had him more a less rabbit dog, but he said he went out one day with a bloke with a 1/4 pit x 3/4 grey , and this dog just smashed the fox in seconds , it blew his mind lol, the difference between the 2 type dogs , he said they deff bring lot to the table . Yep he be missed R I P Gary.

nice pups, and not bad price as well, bought a pit x grey in the 80s that was 120£ quid, so fare price for today, not bad x, but i prefer bit more coat on a lurcher if choise beddy x bull grey etc , my 1x gsd x grey got brill coat, takes any weather , bounced of few b/w fences in his day .

I was bad with being sick, and the shits, was bad for 3 days, never left the house, had to loose dogs in garden. I never ate anything in that time, only had warm water, lost 6 pound in weight, being sick and shifting through the eye of a needle, really drained me, it was feeling like this, was a dog was the last thing I need deff. I better now, but it made me really think about lurchers in a very different light deff.!

thanks mate, looks good stuff, suppose if its a belly cut/ rip , prob vet job / stitch , but anywhere else on them, that stuff be spot on. my big gsd x grey got brill coat / skin on him, he bounced of b/w fences few times , just the odd little cut, but my bullxs i had back then , feck me they rip alot easier than him , that was one of the things put me off bullxs was there coat/ skin.
