I think it might be different with " point and squirt" dogs that are just run off a slip. They are a sort of one trick pony. I try for a modicum of obedience and steadyness type training and once its hairing about days are over the dog can still be useful in other ways like shooting and ferreting . Or just a stressless companion.

After chatting with another TFL member last night about his latest doggy exploits l had an urge to charge up the lamp have a wander with my geriatric lurcher . A bit hypocritical really as the conversation touched on my intention to let rabbit numbers build up on my permission. Still , in truth l didn't think we'd actually see anything let alone get a run . A catch seemed even more unlikely! I don't think l've taken the dog out with the lamp for maybe eight years ,possibly more , and the old chap is probably somewhere either side of fourteen . As l suspected , there was

I fished Windermere last Summer but only successfully for roach , bream and hybrids, rather than pike . Well l started off with an evening spinning from the bank, but apart from a baby perch it was a dead loss. The water was clear ,rocky and surprisingly shallow along the public access areas . There were public jetties that went out to deeper water that looked perchy/pikeish but they were decorated with holidaymakers at the time . Eventually l went out in my inflatable kayak and anchored in the middle of a bay about 100 yards from shore in about 5 feet of water. The place was

Collars for the for the Mk 2 ( first version of the Disco Carrot) transmitters are rectangular and made of black plastic with the sliding battery compartment lid. The first "Mk3" collars are the same but made of grey plastic. The most recent "Mk3" collars are the round magnetic - switch type . All three will work with the old grey boxes and Star Trek Carrot receivers. Left; Mk2. Right ; early Mk3. The only proviso is that the black Mk2 collar ticks faster and kills batteries a little bit faster than the others. Hope this helps?

Good advice . It's where fully subterranean traps prove their worth . Strychnine worked very well and was dirt cheap but is dodgy stuff . It has been off limits for a long time ,since 2006 if my memory serves . The efficency of gassing is affected by many variables and can work out expensive for equally variable results . It also requires a two man team , pretty thorough risk assessments and safety gear and the public would need to be excluded for long periods during and after application . Which could lead to even more aggravation. Covert trapping using a guerilla a

I don't believe they are Chinese spy balloons. I think they are Russian . Almost certainly supplied by Roger Walters. The Amercans know it too. And that's why The Pentagon have ordered US citizens to prove their loyalty by destroying their Pink Floyd records.

"Decent bream" ; too modest. They are crackers!?

They spawn at the same time as coarse fish . There is a great little you tube video of males fighting and the winner getting his girl ?

I know l've added a post but l think it might be a bit unfair to publicly speculate too much. Friends and family of the missing lady must be in enough distress without unproven statements being cast about . Let suspicions remain unsaid.

They may've done something similar ,probably not with a dead cow though. Police will certainly have calculated weather and current and liased with the EA and Coastguards regarding flow and any debris hotshots. The River Arun in Sussex had a reed bed about four miles from the sea that was a corpse magnet .

On a positive note. My daughter called me round for advice on the rather sickly baby whippet she'd acquired . It was the only pup left and clearly the runt and had no papers. It also had weird skin problems but being a soft touch (like her Dad ?)she felt sorry for it. Not soft enough to pay the asking price though and she walked away with the pup for the princely sum of £100. One look told me it wasn't even a whippet! Two years on she has a rather good little rough coated lurcher bitch.

Ignore this post . I was trying to edit a question and had a phone malfunction. Sorry. I am a techno numpty at times

It's a great series of posts. My brother was keen on falconry for many years . He said that of the birds he had his Harris was the only bird that he felt was a friend . I don't know if that makes sense. Anyway , please keep up the progress. diary ?

A couple for Wolfdog from a 1947 Ducks Unlimited book. And something more British. And just to be a bit multicultural , a photograph my Dad took in 1962 of the Horsham &Crawley Boxing Day meet. The cowboy was a local farmer .

The Angling Guide : a wealth of interesting advertisements.... Advice on how to dress properly for the bank. No namby pamby thermal cammo suits or bivvy tents . Real men fished in string vests. Or even half naked. For some reason the booklet included this advert for a pen.....

The View From My Swim Today consisted of my good friend standing on the opposite bank wondering just what had taken his trotted maggots on a size 14 to 4lb line and centre-pin reel This view remained unchanged for half an hour as the fish did what it liked . During this time l made it across a bridge , negotiated floodwater and a bit of a bog to see if l could lend a hand. Or at very least get a glimpse of the beast before it came off. When l did catch sight of it l simply announced that it was huge without mentioning the species . If he knew what he'd latched onto a

I can't believe some of the disbelieving numpties on this . The way that photo shows the puma off is no different from the way a fisherman arranges a trophy shot of a big fish. Anyway why would it be faked? Pumas aren't rare . Thanks for posting Wolfdog ; l reckon a few of the disbelieving chimps on this site owe you an apology.

. Foxdropper l dare not ask what else is buried there . Especially as she is a widow! Sausagedog : nooooo?

Not quite Groundhog Day : this one was awake . As per instructions it joined its friend in the compost trench . Either the client is going to have the best vegetables in the County or a Steven King style plague of zombie foxes .

3.9kg . That's 8lb - the size of a big human baby!

Good Lord no , her reputation would be ruined .

The Sun that's appeared for the last couple of days seems to have brought the foxes out during the day in my area . No doubt the the thawing fields have made grubbing about a bit easier for them than it's been for a couple of weeks . Though some seem simply content to bask in the warmth . I shouldn't have been surprised when just as l thought l might have an early finish this afternoon l had a call from a customer. She's a lady in her nineties who despite using a walking- aid still maintains a bit of a smallholding. It wasn't that long ago that she shot her own foxes -usual
