I have just found this clip on calling munties on u-tube. It gives the sound, so I thought it was very informative; There is another clip too, but both seem to use just the fiep call, not the distress one. Atb, ft

I wanted something that would fit in the car easily and so i bought a X3M1 pair of the telescoping jobbies. I bought mine in the Litt's sale and they cost me £10.00. Hazel and garden canes are fine if you have a pick-up etc, if you want something to fit in the boot of your car, like me you will have to try something else. I haven't frightened any deer with them shot a few off them mind They are light too, if you need to walk a long way and weight is an issue. ft

They raid the pheasant feeders on our shoot. They tweak the metal springs to hell and back. We are moving over to the cage type feeders (spring inside a cage). Hopefully this will mean our pheasants will eat the wheat not the deer! ft

My Lee kit works well and produces better results than factory ammo in my rifle. I would buy a RCBS Rockchucker if money was not an issue for me. It was, so i didn't. ft

I have a double freestanding from Grampian (Colin Scott) good high seat but pricey and he is a nightmare to get hold of, and not very quick to fullfil his order book. I also have a single one from P.D. High Seats(shooting sports mag) and cannot recommend it highly enough. At £135, it breaks down small enough to go on the roof rack of my jimny and i can put it up on my own. Fully galvanised and very comfy too. Nice bloke to deal with, a 10 out of 10 experience. ft

What a great read, made my day thanks I particularly like the "snow angel" photo where FD is pointing out that he carried TWO deer, at least I presume that what he meant by that sign with his fingers. You are lucky to have such a good mate. Atb, ft

If you reload, how about a Hornet? The more I see of them the more i like them, there is nothing cheaper to reload, easy to moderate and very effective. ft

I have been out this morning to a couple of small bits of land that I have permission on and only saw does, not a buck to be seen. Out twice last week and found just the same. Lots of females no males. I will ask round tonight and see what everyone else is saying in the area. Here in the south of Worcestershire there has been little or no harvesting yet, we seem to be enjoying our normal monsoon season which I believe used to be called July. ft

I have a sako 75 in 6.5x55 and am thrilled with it. I have not done any long range target shooting and do not expect to, I use mine purely for stalking along with some gratuitous zeroing/plinking. As has been said, a long barrel is best for target shooting and my finnlight has a 21" barrel. With a moderator fitted you can watch the bullet strike the beast there is so little recoil. I have had red hinds, fallow bucks/does, roe bucks/does and a muntjac. I have as yet not had a runner, but I am sure this is just good fortune. I have been using federal 140gn powershoks but have just start

If you can find someone who riddles their own taties (when they start picking) ask if you can have the rotten/rejects. If you put them in an onion sack and smash them up then tip it in the shallows, they go mad for them. Barley if you can afford it. Sweepings from a corn mill, or even better, the seeds and trash that is winnowed out from the corn/barley. This works a treat for the teal. Atb, ft

I did the DSC1 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the BDS team extremely well informed, we had a vet to talk us through the diseases and what indicators to look for, we had Steve Bowers (of Specialist Rifles) to do the ballistics course, gun safety was done by Dave Cannon (Avon & Somerset Polices's Armourer). We also had a lawyer to talk us through the legal implications of our own actions whilst stalking and processing the animal into the food chain. I learned a lot from the four days the course was over and considered it good value. Anything that raises the ability of stalkers new

Of the shells I have patterned the plastic wads definately throw more consistant patterns. But most of my shooting has to be done with fibre wads, both on the clay ground and game shooting due to environmental concerns. ft

I use "J" leads with about 6ft of line to the first duck then about 4 feet to its pair. I only do mine in pairs as I only use 6 decoys in 3 pairs. I don't like carrying any more, gettin old and lazy ft

Best way to fix a moderator is slip him a tenner. outstanding value? ft

Well done that man! You had a much better morning than me. ft

Fireball, I have yet to find any card (not paper) that does not become soggy when wet I fill the card in when back at the vehicle and only tie it on at the last minute It's not perfect but the best I can manage cheaply There must be something better, but not at the price I like ft

I printed mine out using m/s publisher, using a similar format from the DSC book; I declare in accordance with EU Regulation 853/2004 that no abnormal behaviour was observed before Killing and there is no indication of environmental contamination. I have inspected the head, pluck and viscera without observing abnormalities, Notes:……………………………………………………………………………………… Trained person qualification:……………………………………………………………. Contact details/name:…………………………………

It is if you don't shoot your own deer, or buy from Veniards. Try buying some from Sportfish or John Norris, fair makes your wallet wince ft

Forestry Commision made them compulsory for their employees to protect their hearing. I value my hearing so i use a mod on my rifle. I use ear defenders when using a shotgun too, unless it's warm when i will use ear plugs. ft

Well done, Tattoben The first fallow buck i shot was from a high seat at 25yds/30yds and I neck shot him, dropped like a stone. I would need to be at 50yds or less to take them comfortably. I was helping a mate who has to sell the carcasses to make up his wages, so he neck shoots all his beasts if he can. I obliged. At sensible ranges, depending upon ability, i see nothing wrong with neck shots. Head shots are tricky, its the part of the deer that is always moving, and can easily lead to wounding. But if you are close enough, or good enough, fair play to you! I prefer mid neck or h

Thanks, I agree, what I thought was right, being told by my FEO that it was open, was wrong  . After my conversation with him (FEO) this evening I am somewhat wiser. I have no other restrictions, like having a mentor etc., which West Mercia normally insist on, which is the best he was prepared to do at the time. If i ask either at renewal, or after two years they will re-evaluate. This has really peeved the five others who were given the impression they had open certificates. Sorry to all, i am suitably chastened ft

Charlie, many thanks for that. It explains a lot to me. And poses some questions over what we have been told. atb, ft

Mr L, Your statement is at odds with the policy of West Mercia Police. Mine is what they, not you, class as an open ticket. I am afraid that you are wrong about the interpretation of the law. All police authorities have the capability in law of introducing conditions and stipulations of their own choosing to apply to FAC's that they grant. Of the six other FAC's I have been able to look at so far, all of which are worded the same, all the recipients were told that they were open certificates. I will make further investigations to see if they are not telling the truth. ft
