  1. Hi, I read you had a springer from Cheweky Wolf with undershot jaw. We have just purchased 2 spirngers through Cheweky Cobra -from Yorkshire. We think this is the same blood line. One had undershot jaw, how did your bitch turn out please

  2. Just to correct 'rickyspringer', fourth place this year was Ian Openshaw with Alice Wise's bitch ftch Woodstorm Babe of Woodabudge. The dog in second place is owned by Terry Frost, handled by Jon Bailey. This dog was also awarded Guns Choice. Diplomas of merit were awarded to: Garry Veasey with ftch Badger of the Valley Robin Young with Flaxdale Hallie Aubrey Ladyman with Rosebay Fantasy Aubrey Ladyman was the only person to be put out on the first day, this was for missing a bird with ftch Rosebay Camillie. He then had a fantastic run with last years winner ftch Rose
  3. keep it warm and well fed. it will welp for a nite or to but should come round Wise words Upperlane. All a pup needs is some warmth, food, water and love. Do not reward the pup by giving attention when it is crying/barking. This will only encourage the pup to do it more and may turn into a habit. I usually find that they are settled by day 3. I once asked Mr Openshaw for advice on how to rear a pup, the answer i was given was "just be a monkey to it". This is probably the best advice i have ever been given! Atb best with your new pup Keepa
  4. The .308 is a good choice for reloading as there are many differing types of bullet heads available. It is not a flat shooting round, but if you get to know what your rifle and bullet are doing at varying ranges this is not a problem. I once watched a dvd where Andre Georgescu was shooting Roo's in Australia at some serious ranges with a .308! He knew what he was capable of, trusted his rifle, and was aware of the bullet drop/wind drift at those ranges. Amazing to watch! The .308 could be described as an all rounder, but a 'good' all rounder in my opinion. When used with the heavier
  5. Colin I had the same mind boggling decision to make when i first got into deer stalking. I personally started with a .243. since then i have shot deer with .25-06, .308, 6.5x55, 30-06 and 7mm rem mag. The top and bottom of it is, they all do the job! Which is the reason for all the varying opinions on the matter! If i was to advise on one caliber it would be the .308 for the following reasons: -kills well -readily available -will always sell -ammo easy to purchase anywhere in the country -ammo manufactured by many different companies -very versatile round Hope this hasn't
  6. I have been asked to cull some fallow that are doing damage in some young forestry plantation. There are a number of footpaths that pass through the ground, so I need to draw the deer into an area away from public access/view. I intend to draw the deer there by feeding them. I have a regular supply of cut maize, whole maize and wheat, along with some aniseed attractant. Are all of these feed stuffs ok for the job? Can anybody recommend anything else that fallow like to eat or are attracted too? I have been told to tie a couple of hay nets to trees and fill them with hay or h
  7. Snowdonia Taxidermy Supplies do some real nice ones. I buy the unfinished solid oak shields then stain and wax them myself. Also buy my skeletal bleach from there.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions guys! Think I will try different powder rates to start with and if that doesn't work i'll scrap the nickel cases and go back to brass! The nickel cases do look sexy though!!
  9. BR2 = Large rifle primer BR4 = Small rifle primer Excellent! Thank you!!
  10. Could somebody please explain to me the difference between BR2 & BR4 primers please?!
  11. It took 5 years for me to be convinced to start to reload. Found all the talk of digital verniers, thou this and thou that, along with primer pocket uniformer and flash hole de-burrer all very daunting and confusing . However, decided to convert to the dark side and bought myself an RCBS Rock chucker kit and some Redding dies and can honestly say it was money well spent. I will never use factory ammo again! Not only do groups tighten, but you are also able to produce your own bullet to meet your own needs. I was unable to find a round that would group well through my Sako .25-06 , othe
  12. I have seen bucks chasing does but this chase like yours was the buck chasing the doe not FOLLOWING her remember she usually runs and he follows, also the does usually ditch the fawns. she could have been calling back to the fawn. who knows you were there i was,nt just do,nt think its rutting behaviour.also some of your text is missing? and because the guy next to me who culls deer for a living for the last 20 years + shoots 300 Roe per year said "the rut has started" That is good news barry j and well done on taking those two bucks! Whether the rut has or has not yet started, i
  13. Hi Guys, The first load I tried for my .243 grouped 1/2" at 100 yrds which I was well chuffed with. The load was as folows: 70 grain Nosler BT 47 grains IMR 4350 powder CCI Benchrest primers Federal brass cases O.A.L. 2.6640 I was unable to get any more Benchrest primers locally as everywhere was sold out, so decided to get some Federal Gold Medal primers instead. I also purchased some nickel cases to try. I made up a load as before, only this time with the Gold Medal primers and nickel cases. I went on the range expecting to have to re-zero slightly, but found that my
  14. Thanks for that John! I can't stop itching since you mentioned midges! But it's ok, i've got a bottle of 'Skin So Soft'!
  15. I am going up to my syndicate ground this weekend (11th-13th July) near Dumfries. I'm worried I might be wasting my time and money if the buck's aren't showing at the minute! Do you think this is to early for the rut to start up there? Last year I was too late and missed it! Gamekeepa
