The old droves and stopping places have all been ditched or made impossible to get onto so travellers are these days forced into more public places as private land is a no no with the public order bill, us hippies used to do ur very best to keep out the publics eye and who the feck wants to live in a car park?, but like i say the old lanes and commons are all no go zones,so just where are these people meant to go??.. Don't get me wrong i can't stand the race in general but they don't have a settled history and do have a right to live there nomadic life....

No pics but i would remember you will need space for the young you will breed and even from other pairs if you have more than 2 pairs coming, also a safety porch is a total must and it's gutting to see a bird (had it happen) or even all you have wizz past you and i know it's not as nice as flights but sometimes big breeding cages will help you and the birds better when lack of space dictates..

Get the old ones that don't have the twisty crap bit but have a bit you push in to change the head, they also have a pick bit and are a handy thing to have in the tool box as such.I have one i use both in the field and at work as a groundworker and mine has 1959 stamped on it and i have shoved it in my coat and gone done a shallow place or two before with it..

Pure beeds where would you be without them ?
fireman replied to juckler123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I've caught hares with a 10 ft stop net and a jack russell more than once in the past,a dog that can't catch a hare will run it out the filed in the same place many times and on mooches in the past this has happened and iv'e gone back and netted it after the russell has chased it as a hare is a creature that uses the same runs over and over again.. -

And that's why a dog is no good for filling a pot with hares for a hunter/gatherer type fella and other game is far easier to catch, that is why saluki's and all the other coursing dogs were bred for sport and not as pot fillers...A hare is to much of a animal to aim at with a dog just for a smallish dinner, has been and always will be and hence why coursing dogs were and are these days bred for sport.. The saluki x maybe the best there is but that's not anything to do with the history of coursing as such and killing hares is a different sort of coursing.. -

fireman replied to juckler123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
A lurcher has and always will be a poor thing to use to catch a hare and a snare is far more effective and quieter for the poaching man and catching other things far out wieghed having a hare killing dog ..The saluki was bred for the sport of coursing and not to kill hares and from them the sport of coursing and the dogs bred for the sport travelled to the rest of the world...That is the history of coursing mate ....
