Yeah QB, that's the plan, I'm going to try and get a young lad and someone a bit older who I know can graft and has a sensible head on their shoulders. Having recently been able to watch how a larger firm work, I know I've got to slow down. Sounds like my rates need to go up 20% as well. Make the best of the good times whilst they last

That's the problem I'm having - I only work with stone and it's nearly all repair work on old buildings, got away with working alone for years, but I'm not physically up to doing the bigger jobs with a lot of heavy graft by myself anymore. Trouble is the job is a bit specialised and the only people I know who can do it right are even older and at retirement age. I have it in mind to train up a couple of people, which is going to cost time + financially, but I can't see any other way to keep going until I can find a way out of the trade altogether. There isn't the business to directly employ p

How do you brickies organise yourselves if there is a group of freelancers (not an organised firm) doing private work ? Say you normally work alone, but get a job to rebuild a long garden wall and you want 3 other brick layers to come in on the job with you. Do you all invoice the customer separately and let the customer buy materials (less money, less risk), or do you take the lead on managing the job and invoice the customer yourself with a % on top for buying the materials and paying the labour bills out of your own pocket (more money more risk)?

Shipping Container For A Shed.
Caravan Monster replied to ryaldinhio's topic in Home Stuff, Building and Leisure
We laid the panels from an old walk in chiller on top of a 20' x 8' standard cargo container. Looks a mess, but not a drop of condensation for the last 2 winters. I've got hold of a stack of 150mm insulation boards and will build a slightly pitched roof from 2" x 9" to sit on top of another container and retain and hide the insulation boards when they are sat on top of the container. Already got some curvy tin roofing sheets to top it off with and a gutter to finish. I reckon in a domestic setting, it would look smart with trellis and lots of plants. -

Some of the prime movers in the attempt to derail Brexit are hardly representative of the average Brit. More liberal elite types, British in name for convenience sake. Graeme Pigney, who led the crowd funding effort for those poor starving lawyers to bring the case that ended up in the Supreme Court, lives in France https://www.crowdjustice.org/case/parliament-should-decide/ Beardie Branson, leading / funding anti Brexit efforts. lives in the Virgin Islands http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/757204/Richard-Branson-Virgin-Brexit-European-Union-Britain-EU And the challengers in the Article 50 cou

To Jump Or Not To Jump, That Is The ?
Caravan Monster replied to Sirblessed's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Mine is quite hesitant at jumping fences, although she is perfectly capable of doing it. A lot of the boundaries around here is fence > ditch > hedge (+assorted scrap) > fence and I would prefer she takes her time or finds another way around. Never far from a road around here either, so that moment of hesitation can give me a chance to call her off. She'll clear ditches on their own at full speed. I still lift her over stiles and onto those dodgy single plank bridges over ditches that the council are keen on building. -
The interviews with Gina Miller cracked me up. Every time she was asked if she brought the case with the intention of overturning the referendum result, her voice would go up an octave as she started lying about doing it for the benefit of the British people and to ensure that constitutional law is upheld

Terrier Taking Seizure
Caravan Monster replied to THE GENERAL's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
My lurcher suffered seizures during the last few years, but she was over 12 years old. It would happen only occasionally with several months between each incidence. Took her to the vet a few times soon as possible after seizure, but they didn't have a clue what caused it. Hope you can sort it out, bloody horrible thing to see happen. -

No idea what the truth is. My dad's family, none of whom were religious, 'believers' or hallucinogen users, had a house they lived in during the sixties exorcised. All five of them claimed to have 'seen things'.

Padnasol Alternative ?
Caravan Monster replied to Caravan Monster's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Cheers Squemish, I did try aqueous cream, but it didn't seem to have the same effect as it does on our heels. Looks like the sled dog equipment sellers stock pad care and remedies, going to give one of these a try http://culpeppers.co.uk/product-category/pad-care-and-remedies/ -
Padnasol Alternative ?
Caravan Monster replied to Caravan Monster's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Thanks for the replies. Sorry I didn't explain very well. It's cracks rather than cuts in the pad, like we get on our heels. I don't think there's too much risk of infection, it's more a case of getting the top surface of the pad to knit back together. The dog was limping, so I took her to a canine osteopath, who couldn't find anything wrong with muscles / skeleton. They thought it most likely that a tiny bit of grit had got into a crack and irritated the nerve endings in the pad. I've kept her in for 5 days and she's not limping now, just a little light on that foot, so hopefully she's on -
My saluki x is getting grief from a small crack in the big pad front left foot, can anyone recommend an alternative for padnasol (which doesn't look to be available anymore) ? I've found intrasite gel effective on skin / flesh wounds in the past, but no idea if it'll be any good on foot pad intrasite gel: Not sure if this would stay in the crack very well without bandaging the foot

Sounds like weed withdrawal in this case, that stuff can have a strong effect on the mind. There is a school of thought that waking up in the middle of the night is natural. In the pre- industrial / electric lighting era, people went to bed earlier, slept for a few hours then woke up for an hour or two, getting up to all sorts of things and then went back to sleep until morning. It was called first and second sleep and some think it is healthier than today's 8 hours sleep. Might be handy for a couple of hours lamping at 1am. http://slumberwise.com/science/your-ancestors-didnt-sleep-like

Was speaking to someone with a banana transit earlier this year. It was really tidy and I asked him if it was a big restoration job, turns out it was all original and had only done around 20, 000 miles ! I spent around twice what my ten year old VW LT35 2.8 is worth on preventative maintenance, in the hope of keeping it going for a long time because I reckon long term it is better than the more recent equivalents. The owner of the outfit that did the work had done a nut and bolt rebuild of his 5 cylinder sprinter of similar age for the same reason.

I kept putting off teaching mine to jump because she is still very immature at 14 months and I wanted to keep that extra bit of control over where she goes. She decided to start jumping fences on her own, selecting a fence topped with plain instead of barbed wire to start on (more intelligent than I give her credit for ) Still not that confident about tricky jumps, but getting there. I think playing on round bales gave her confidence to jump. My mate has one similar age that jumps like zebedee. Her party piece is to clear fences by bouncing off her owner's back whilst he is climbing over

MPs voted last night that article 50 must be invoked by March 31 2017. This means the process of leaving the EU must be underway by that point https://www.rt.com/uk/369545-uk-parliament-article-50-vote/ 51 SNP, 23 Labour, 5 Lib Dems, 3 SDLP, 3 Plaid, 2 Independents, 1 Green (Caroline Lucas), 1 Tory (Ken Clarke) voted against the the result of the referendum and starting the process of leaving the EU. Something to remember when they next ask for your vote. Good news, hopefully....

doesn't say much for their second cross (3/4 greyhound) and third cross (7/8 greyhound) lurchers. He must be really old by now. It must be depressing to keep dogs in those kennels, never to run again, treating them purely as breeding stock to turn a profit from.

If I see another dog walker coming my way with a dog on a lead, I put mine on a lead or call her to heel. If they are off lead, I let mine greet them and just keep an eye on things, best way to let young dogs learn how to socialise. A lot of people need to chill out with their dogs. Only time ever had any problems, both dogs were on leads and had a ridgeback type (with no clear sign of aggression) lunged and took hold of my old lurcher by the neck but luckily didn't do too much damage. Current lurcher will turn and run from any unknown dog showing aggression toward her. It's a concern that

Which of the Millies do you feed the saluki x ? I've had mine on Akela original as a supplement to raw. It's ok but I reckon it's a bit 'rich' for her and would like to try something else. Endurance. Cheers will give it a try

For a small business providing a local service, the web page itself is not that important any more. Getting onto the google results for your area is where it's at. Look into google + and google places for business. It's something you can do yourself and doesn't cost anything, although it can be worth paying for google adwords when there is likely to be business around like wasp season. I think you could do it without having a web page for your business, a google + page should be enough. Look at how people search for services on a tablet or smartphone - they search with google and call the busi

If you're using firefox browser on a laptop or pc, the Lightbeam add-on shows how many third party sites are connected to when you visit a website. For example, I visited 11 sites which connected me to a total of 76 third party sites (which are invisibly gathering data about my browsing without permission) Unsurprisingly, google and facebook look to be the worst culprits. With firefox edit > preferences > privacy > never remember history will stop some of this activity. I would imagine things are worse with mobile devices. The quantity of data gathered must be so vast, it is diffi
