  1. Chimney sweeping, realistic start up budget £2.5k excluding vehicle. Be prepared to put a lot of work into advertising, do not skimp on equipment, especially ppe and don't mess around customers. Spend the bulk of the equipment and training (yes, really) budget with https://rodtech.co.uk/training-c-82.html and don't waste money on membership of any of the associations. Expect to spend the first year earning back the set up costs and building the foundations of the business. If he doesn't mind heights, ladders can bring work tv aerials, chimney cowls, broken / slipped tiles, gutter clean / r
  2. I suffered with pain and swelling in ankles, arches and toes for years. Got diagnosed with everything from gout to plantar fascitis. 15 + years of podiatrist / chiropractic / osteopath treatment. Got sorted earlier this year by an exceptional osteopath who identified C2 (top of spine) was out of place. Not a pleasant experience having it put right, but now stand a few inches taller and have gone down a shoe size as my feet are back to normal after years of being swollen.
  3. My Saluki x could do with a little more weight on her. Would it be worth trying raw mixed with a premium dry like Akela? She eats around even finely shredded veg and carbs like brown rice or pasta. If I feed her more meat, she'll just bury it Try some lard and a small amount of Chudleys greyhound crunch 55 % protein added a few times a week to her food, she'll be built like a coffee table in no time lol More or less what I've done. Half a mug of Akela (39% protein) every other day with her raw, a bit of lard here and there and she's looking better already.
  4. I've started my 14 month old lurcher on Akela Original 80/20 as a supplement to raw. Looks to be well on it, although I have noticed she has started to puke up bile a little more often than normal. The portion sizes are surprisingly small eg a 25kg dog is around one and a half coffee mug / day if fed purely on Akela. Don't think I'll stop feeding raw, but the grain free seems to be ok for supplement or variety. The dog goes crazy for the stuff.
  5. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/the-value-of-tug-games-with-puppies/ might be worth a try to get the dog to build confidence and feel more comfortable and enthusiastic about coming in close to your Dad. I've not really used it myself, but the hand feeding routines might be worth a go for the same reasons. Keep at it with the 'stop'. I also got my dog as an older puppy and struggled with her more than any of those that came before. She got it eventually and 'stop' has saved the day in several dangerous situations already. Still a long way to go with obedience, but it's starting to co
  6. @ Krawnden - that's very dedicated food prep! I found out today that she will eat shredded curly kale mixed into mince, but that's not enough on it's own. I'm going to try feeding something like a third to half of the recommended ration of Akela Original alongside normal quantities of raw and see how it goes. Not 100% sure about mixing dry and raw but will see how it goes.

  8. Best price I could find on ebay is flyerwyer GJ Wholesale 5m x 1.5m roll £48. Sorry, couldn't get the link to work.
  9. I got a lithium iron phosphate battery from https://www.batterymasters.co.uk/Product-Li7-12,-12v-7Ah-Lithium-Iron-Phosphate,-LiFePO4-Battery,-Charger-Included.-L%28mm%29-W%28mm%29-H%28mm%29-151-65-98_2248.aspx I use it with a cluson 100w blazerlite, but you could use it with any 12v lamp. The 7Ah battery I have is the same size as the the old 7Ah sealed lead acid battery, but much lighter. According to the web, Lithium Iron Phosphate is an improvement on Lithium Ion batteries because they are less fussy about charging cycles and are safer ie less likely to catch fire when on charge.
  10. Same here, although my old one took more to the collie side and was a lot easier to live with, but I guess this one will grow up and calm down soon enough!
  11. lol how is bred ? saluki/grey x collie/grey so far as I know. Still rather puppy-ish and probably got a little filling out to do - she's very lightly built

  13. At 41, starting to get too many joint problems to stay in the building trade too many more years. I did look into chiropractic training and a lot of people train as chiropractors at that age and the prospects for establishing a succesful business are good. However, the thought of five years full time at university is off putting, especially having wasted three years of my life at uni as a kid (hated it and the degree wasn't worth the paper it was printed on). Need to think up some better ideas
  14. This type of light coloured ale with a citrus taste are enjoyable, especially in the hot weather. There's a few of them from other brewers, but it's been a few years and I can't remember their names.
  15. Update on this one... Worried that panacur on it's own wasn't doing the job, I tried her on drontal again with no bad side effects this time. Good news, but no idea why this happened. It's a tricky one to judge, being a lightly built saluki type that enjoys eating all the varieties of sh1t she can get hold of (apart from her own, thankfully), but hopefully the drontal will help keep her looking less of a borderline neglect case.
  16. I've read that before - I can't do tug games with my staffs as they just end up fighting In fact they can't have any toys due to the fact they destroy them and/or fight over them and jasper generally doesn't play tug he's usually pretty good at giving guess yesterday he knew it was his birthday so decided to push his luck haha but I am going to try and do some more fetch with him could probably do with getting a rabbit hide that's been tanned or something for training with him but we shall see what works with him Tug is a one to one activity. If you wanted to have a go at it, put the ot
  17. Tug training might well be worth a go. If it goes to plan, you should get a 'give' and 'retrieve' quickly. Can also be incorporated into other aspects of training and I would imagine bully types will love it. Skycat wrote it up here: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/the-value-of-tug-games-with-puppies/ Loads of tug training vids on youtube as well.
  18. O.P. - Forget about famous lines and breeding litters, just get out there and find a dog you're likely to get along with and enjoy giving it a good life - you've only got to please yourself. Living in London, I would suggest giving serious consideration to whether or not you have enough access to land on which to exercise a dog like a saluki cross - I'm on my second saluki / grey x collie / grey, and they do need to run a lot. The current one is still very puppy-ish at a year old and will be bouncing off the walls if she doesn't get two or three hours exercise a day. Also, the stubborn and sen
  19. I've a saluki/grey x collie/grey and my old one was similar breeding. I love their intelligent laid back nature, physical soundness and the effortless running style. However, the sometimes needy and unpredictable behaviour can be annoying. The current one is not yet a year old and still has a lot of maturing to do and has been hard work with obedience, but we're getting there and I'm looking forward to getting her started on the lamp. Hopefully it's going to be a long time before I get another, but maybe a more straight forward type next time.
  20. +1 he treated my old dog a few times and was very good. Hope he's ok, struck me as an unhappy man.
  21. The biggest threat to getting out of eu will most likely be if Theresa May manages to get the conservative leadership and become prime minister. She wants to remain in the eu and will find a sneaky way to do it. It's been sickening seeing the politicians and media luvvies lining up to call brexit voters old thick racialists and dreaming up ways to betray their electorate. The BBC coverage has also been very one sided to make it sound like the sky is going to fall in when we leave the eu. Don't watch this if you have high blood pressure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqHwXWa3tH4
  22. I had a first x collie / grey from everyones favourite commercial lurcher breeder that among his other amazing qualities loved to eat his own filth. Eventually sorted it by feeding charcoal biscuits http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/charcoal-bones-5kg
  23. Will you be trialling it ?
  24. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41_5fyqNbE8 Couldn't quite tell if it was against brexit or a dig at the remain campaign, but made me laugh.
