  1. Woke early this morning ,approx'2.30am so i decided on a trip out to one of my furthest permissions .Its about 30 miles away so a leasurely drive to it meant i arrived at 3.15am .As i got near it ,i was very surprised to see the snow was still on the ground as we have none left where i live .The fields were like daylight even at this hour so i decided to risk it and not take the lamp .The moon is a good 3/4 at the moment and that addad to the light no end ,yes it was very light in fact .I crunched my way to where a gate divides 2 huge fields and sat in the hedge beside it .Allowed a few minute
  2. Good read mate and good luck with the CWD.
  3. Good read mate .Wish i had that amount of stalking to go at .
  4. Never a truer word spoken mate .I shoot the mature does in a few cases to purposefully move a buck that i know will cause a bit of trouble .Also ,deer around me are regarded in the main as pests and im asked how best to move a small group on .The answer is to remove the older does as these are what keep the family units together .Good post mate .
  5. Funny how you leave it til now to speak up mate?.Some things in life are best smoothed over and this is one of them .Just read back through and Johney ,you are doing yourself no favours chap . Rules are there for everyone not just for celebrities to bend or break .
  6. Its totally understandable why neither Mr Bluck or Mr Darcy never post days out with the dogs .Who wants to read a book thats contents has already had worldwide airing .Got both your books and took a bit from both .I dont think jealousy comes into it and when things calm down ,that fact will remain.ANY book plugging belongs in the relevent section ,end of .The chap who sanctioned it in this section is at fault and neither of the authers .Saw it coming im afraid .
  7. Any skin work needs to be thought out before you attempt it .Shave the area around the cut ,use wide sticky tape to remove loose hair .DO NOT WASH DOWN WITH WATER UNLESS ITS VERY DIRTY INSIDE .A drain needs to be sewn in at the lowest point ,a short piece of tubing that will allow fluid to drain and not accumulate .Bathe daily with salt water or [name escapes me right now ]that pink liquid from the vet .As the area scabs up reduce the bathing .Remove the stitches ,staples after 2 weeks approx but still keep clean .Exercise daily to avoid stiffening .
  8. Some good points here but some i woudlnt choose .Change the bedding as soon as the bitch will allow after pups are born .We all panic a bit but unless there is a complication then let her do it her way .What i will add is that if she is panting heavy but nothing is happening then dont leave it too late before calling the vet for advice .Enjoy .
  9. Heres wishing you all the best mate and stay positive .
  10. All of my solo lamping is on foot ,however if the conditions are right i sometimes join a mate on the quad ,more ground covered but you definately earn what you get on foot .
  11. The most majestic of our deer in my eyes .Nice pic mate ,welldone .
  12. Best terrier i have ever owned was a rough coated black bitch from Wales .I had her from a pup and named her Willow .She was a demon on the rats and started her digging career at a year old .We had many ,many good digs to her and the highlight of her career was taking 62 head of vermin in 3 months during the last foot and mouth outbreak .I never did get to line her as she just wouldnt stand .She jumped out the back of my truck one day before a dig and yelped .Not thinking anything of it we dug 3 in a stop end with her but she couldnt walk afterwards .Shed damaged a nerve in her back that paral
  13. Went down to Martins place for a stalk on Tuesday just gone .He took me to a new place of his locally and what a cracking spot it is .A wind sheltered dingle or dell if you like ,is the centre of this piece of land and we stalked towards it ,hoping to see a deer on the fringes of the bramble patches .The snow was still hanging about here so expectations wernt very high and sure enough the deer wernt on the low ground .The land rises up to a wooded area and Martin saw a doe as we approached the tops .It wasnt stopping, being spooked by us i guess ,so we headed back .Near the first gate we came
  14. Good on you pair .That rifles doing the biz for you David mate .
  15. Well done mate .Easier on the quad though isnt it You maybe right about the cold and deer grouping as now its gone down here the roe are in smaller parties of 3 whereas i saw them together in 4's and 5's last week in the snow .Cheers FD
  16. Here we go again ,labelling everyone with a gun as the same .No mate we dont go around shooting everything we see .Get it right or dont post at all .
  17. As a matter of interest what caused you the interest to get a terrier and take up earthwork. I wondered that myself mate .Personally ,the digging game was a natural progression from ferretting .We wern't shown by anyone as the basics were there ,we just needed to refine it . If you are keen on the sport mate ,then i hope you will be in it for the long haul and not just a passing interest .
  18. If your a keeper on 4000 acres mate then you are a law unto yourself .Just be sensible .
  19. Good going lads .This snow has certainly upped the digs lately .
