On recent lamping trips i have missed four foxes that were in my opinion dead but didnt know it .One of the trips was with a keeper on some new land and i missed two .Very embarrassing when your there for contol purposes .Ive shot some good distances recently and so was very confident in my set up .But now its back to the start checking everthing through .I clean after every ten rounds .It is a tikka t3 with 100 grain winchesters .By the way its now shooting 5 inches low and 2 to the left but why? .

Squirrel_Basher replied to martin's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
I have yet to hear back from the bloke, but, thanks for reminding me mate,I will ring him Monday. As for the 'Silverfish' mate,it has been a hectic culling season, and, here are a few pics of the quarry................ Here is a right and left I had recently, both headshot......... And,here is a very good specimen head I took that was way off,I used the rangefinder and it was almost 8 inches away,I took that one because he was lame.......... Y.I.S. martin. 8 inches from the lazzy band mate ,that has to be a pb i know .Great trophy there mate .You will have to take me to -

Christ mate fair play to you .If i attempted that it wouldnt look nowt like it mate .No patience for the finer detail me but i know a perfectionist when i see one .I will get you to do one for me ,been a long time since i actually ate the stuff rather than taking them over the dealer .Again fair play to you on the post which as said ,deserves to be pinned as did that rare flat fly you came across .Not seen many of them this year Ps Hows the silver fish collection coming on and did you get that other place? . -
We have a healthy population around here mate[until i see them ] and they can be seen out at any time of day .That one was at about 9.30 am .

Approached the ground from one of the top fields and as soon as i got into the lower field i spotted this fox right down the bottem and just sat staring into the hedge at something .As per the farmers wishes i tried a squeak as he really was a small target at that range but he was having none of it .I was lead down prone by now and steadied the rifle on the pod for a shot .I knew this would be a long shot but ........i squeezed off a round and saw charlie roll over .He looked a beauty against the frosty ground as i walked down to him .Ranged back and found it was 202 metres ,well pleased .The

Indeed mate, indeed .Get yourself driving and well have a look for one if you like . -
Always a testosterone fueled thread this type but the upshot is -Break your dogs to stock or pay the price .No amount of whinging will bring them back once they are shot .Very poor to own a dog that even looks at the feckers IMO. Heard of a donkey killed recently by lurchers and a shot dog but that is another story .

Good going there mate ,cant beat it .

Have had a couple of cracking hunts on mink in the past ,the best being quite by surprise .Walking dogs late at night a few years back [all dogs present now dead] they ran down the bank of our local stream/river and waded out in the shallows ,keen on a scent .The lurcher ,being taller saw the mink run through the shallows further down and was on the case .The terriers x2 were both over the far bank by now and threading in and out the dead cowparsley . The mink took the dogs about 30 yards down stream and then dived into a stone wall that was built to slow the water down .The face of this wa

Early rise this morning to take the dogs out on some land i have that borders some National trust land . Theres always been a few deer here but lately theres been a few fallow but always just over the boundary The dogs were off on the ass of something when these boys got up from some cover and werent in any rush to depart .One of them has the makings of a good beast in the future and he's with 3 prickets of last year .Hopefully they will stay around until he comes of age but i know he will want a doe soon enough . Still, nice to see them about even if i didnt have the rifle .Would be nice -
Due to the generosity of Deker and Mr logic ,i spent a great day and night up with the pair of them on their land last Monday .Met Deker at his house and after a coffee we went to a patch of his a few miles away .Typical ground for the area ,wooded with patches of bog ,scrubland -perfect .We were to stalk deer with a possible fox thrown in .Deker is very knowledgeable about the area and its wildlife and he was able to say where we'd find the deer .Spot on every time . A shot never presented itself but i really was content to see them in this surroundings and the deer i did see were in tip -

Saturday afternoon saw me gingerly trying out my sore ankle and im glad to say it got better the more i walked on it . I was on a farm that i really like as theres a good head of deer and nice scenery with it .Wasnt long before i spotted two sat in a hedge and the stalk was on in the shape of a belly crawl.About 70 yds through the wet grass to a brow and i was within 100yds of them ,a doe and her young doe of the year .The doe was the target and as they were sat down it had to be a head shot .Well in theory but i missed cleanly and the doe got up sharpish followed by her young 'un.They stood

Had a look out Tuesday at a spot that borders a chicken farm i do and was surprised to see not one but 4 foxes here .The first one didnt want to know a squeak and i bipassed him ,hoping to come back around and stalk it .The next i saw was way out on a rape field .I got into what i thought was a good position under a wall and set the bipod for a sqeaking session. On the first go this fox came belting in .I had the green filter on the rifle lamp ,or rather a piece of green see through plastic ,the idea of my good mate Martin off the site but this has its draw backs as i was to find out .Eyes sta

.22 Hornet, whats is it like?
Squirrel_Basher replied to Sterry's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
From real experience -I grew up with one of these babies and i loved it .Looking back i probably stretched the limits a bit but when your young thats what limits are for arnt they .Very accurate out to 150 yds but the tail off is very noticeable from there on .Shot a lot of foxes and sometimes wonder why i swapped it in for a .222 but the price of ammo and availabilty is enough to reassure me .If you want a rifle PURELY for fox at sensible range then get one ,providing the ammo is available . -
