  1. Stalked in to this bunch ,a family group of two young does of last year ,an adult doe [mother to the two young]and a buck that has just joined them . Apologies for the small pic as i clicked the wrong option .Be obliged if someone could enlarge it for me as my machine is very slow
  2. It will be interesting to track his progress through your pics mate .Ive tried to follow the progress of a few before but with a high population its very hard to say for certain that your studying the same one year after year .I have my eye on a very large head this year that has finally given me leave to shoot it as the bucks definately blind in one eye .Will remain to be seen if its mine or not .Possible 7-9 pointer .
  3. Ive seen some rabbit damage in the past but never to that extent .Good outing you had there mate ,despite the cold wind.Good luck in the future too .

  8. Well done Local mate .Good to achieve what you set out to do ,gives you a sense of immortality I have to take an inforced break at the moment due to having my right eye done ,cateract removed ,but i believe theres a few does with my name on them before the seasons out .Cant wait to be honest .
  9. Mate ,any idea on the approx age of that buck .I have my own guess just wondered if it tied in with yours . Just to add a thing or two about antler growth .The actual growth of the antler is regulated by the amount of testosterone in a bucks body.Normal levels of the hormone found in a buck during winter ,allows the steady growth of antler .As the amount of daylight increases so does the testosterone increase until it reaches a peak in the rut .Its the increase in this hormone that stops antler growth .Bucks that have for some reason been castrated ,produce no testosterone and therefore th
  10. Whenenever i see that lads posts all i see is red -mist .Get that pic mate or you will forever be known as Buzzard Boy .
  11. good going mick. thats a nice sized vixen , would it not be better if fox cage traps were made a bit higher so that the fox could walk straight in and feel more confident upon entering the trap , by increasing the kill area on snare loops they become far more deadly and cut out the usual problem of avoidance , providing that they are set at the proper height in correlation to the loop size , not setting them at the best practice height like the dumplings suggest. Not wishing to pull anyone up snareman but that trap is not a fox trap but one used by the ministry for the black and white th
  12. If its pure pest control then there is no season .Ferret ,lamp and shoot throughout the summer .Buy a chest freezer and freeze down the best to sell in bulk .50 rabbits used to be the best way to ensure a good price from a dealer .More and they say its too many at once ,less and its never enough to bother with .Charge him what you are happy with no matter what others say ,its you whos doing it .You know it makes sense .
  13. Yes mate ,and i had assured him that we would get a fox too .Might not hear from him again but hey ,plenty more land to go at .
  14. May have found it .The plastic screw in grommet which fits into the t8 and sleeves the barrel was loose .Would this throw shot wild? How do i prevent this again ?Its caused a bright area on the barrel so was obviously vibrating .
  15. The buttalo is capable of producing every call made by a roe doe .The doe calls when she is in oestrus to attract a buck .This can be very subtle or quite loud ,depending on the deer density i think .A few feeeeps will do with a break then call again ,repeat .Do not call constantly as this is most unnatural .The doe commands a small territory in late summer ,again depending on density .The bucks ,according to status have a much larger territory and service many does within it .Its this call that we mostly use to attract a buck .I have heard a doe calling many times and also seen and heard the
  16. On recent lamping trips i have missed four foxes that were in my opinion dead but didnt know it .One of the trips was with a keeper on some new land and i missed two .Very embarrassing when your there for contol purposes .Ive shot some good distances recently and so was very confident in my set up .But now its back to the start checking everthing through .I clean after every ten rounds .It is a tikka t3 with 100 grain winchesters .By the way its now shooting 5 inches low and 2 to the left but why? .
  17. I have yet to hear back from the bloke, but, thanks for reminding me mate,I will ring him Monday. 18. Christ mate fair play to you .If i attempted that it wouldnt look nowt like it mate .No patience for the finer detail me but i know a perfectionist when i see one .I will get you to do one for me ,been a long time since i actually ate the stuff rather than taking them over the dealer .Again fair play to you on the post which as said ,deserves to be pinned as did that rare flat fly you came across .Not seen many of them this year Ps Hows the silver fish collection coming on and did you get that other place? .

  22. Approached the ground from one of the top fields and as soon as i got into the lower field i spotted this fox right down the bottem and just sat staring into the hedge at something .As per the farmers wishes i tried a squeak as he really was a small target at that range but he was having none of it .I was lead down prone by now and steadied the rifle on the pod for a shot .I knew this would be a long shot but ........i squeezed off a round and saw charlie roll over .He looked a beauty against the frosty ground as i walked down to him .Ranged back and found it was 202 metres ,well pleased .The
