  1. Well Mark ,you are spot on .Hes always moaning about something ,be it deer ,pigeons or rabbits .The rabbits have learnt to jump the electric fence ,a fact which he refuses to believe but ive sen them at it .The pigeons come first light when the gas guns off and the deer ,well they please themselves when they come and go. That makes for 22 deer shot on 7 acres in 4 months ,and still they come
  2. Can you say why this is important mate ,not that i can help .
  3. Sunday morning saw me off to the market garden at first light ,before going digging ,the main event of my Sundays now .Arrived to see a glorious sunrise over a foggy carpet on the lower ground.Deer slots every where but it wasnt until i was near the far boundary that i glassed any out grazing .Three roe were on the cabbages ,munching away like it was their god given right to be there .A young buck ,an elderly doe and a young doe ,probably both hers from last year . I was still a good way off and the back drop wasnt there so a gradually stalk in to roughly 150 yds up over the ground which
  4. Never mind mate, always the bucks to look forward to .
  5. the numberrs he posted are of the League against Cruel Sports not his buddys. Tell me foxdropper has you friend sold any dogs or hunting gear here or on the net becuase this would hardly be a new tactic if it was the case.. Like in 1992 i think it was there was the undercover documentary featurring Tom Parr and the undercover filming of all the craic any hunting man old enough will remember it. The main way of the fella infiltrating the lads was ringing up adds for dogs and building a false identity. Could this be the case here. 16 years later/?? He can think of nothing that hes d
  6. A mate of mine has recently had two phone calls from non withheld numbers asking him about everything ranging from dog cruelty to badger baiting .The caller hangs up when asked for a name but stays very cool even when voices are raised.Ones a women ,the others a man ,both young sounding .They claim to be from the media but a ring back confirms they are L.A.C . Now then if its true, then theres someone or some group thats passing on info to them . The numbers he was phoned on are -07980232287 and 07977292534. To say be careful is an understatement .
  7. This is what i found further up the trail.Threw me too i guess .I thought it would be a fleeter footed beast than old brock .
  8. It happens mate ,especially in woodland where its not the deer you can see that is the problem .For every deer standing i like to look for at least 2 sitters .If there not there then its game on.
  9. Did i read that right mate ,5 bucks .Well, you know i dont like to push mate but ..................... How about i come down Monday and we try over the far ground of yours mate ?
  10. Saw a hedgehog out the other night actually and i would go with that .They tend to live exclusively on earthworms around us so soil is the main 'ingredient 'in the faeces .It breaks down fast and is easily washed away but being omnivores ,the diet will vary with regions i guess .And yes hedgehogs are omnivores as a pet one will attest too .
  11. Rats leave a greasy looking run mate .Mink prints are nearly the same as a cat but smaller obviously .Part eaten fish ,a trail of scales ,scat like a ferret [shit].You may see a boulder or stone on the river bank or mid stream which looks permanently wet/shiny .Its where the mink will take a kill .Good luck with your findings mate .
  12. Just to add that i spoke to the farmer this morning and hes seen another carrying a chicken first light so its back there again soon .
  13. Very good write up mate ,excellent discription of the place too ,i was right there ,about a week ago i think Good to see you getting more confident in the set up ,says me whos only just done the same .That farmer owes you a drink or two bud
  14. Went to have a look on the chicken farm i do the foxing on. Pulled up at the farmhouse and spoke to man in charge. There is a caravan near the organic sheds and the chap there had just seen a fox run past his house with a chicken still squawking in its jaws so he was glad i had arrived .I had the .222 tonight as its been good to me recently .We set off on a wide circuit of the whole place which we dont always do as its fairly big .Down by the wood we saw a pair of eyes but only briefly ,there is a very shy fox here ,has been for ages and that was probably him . Over the brow of the next field
  15. I have never intentionally put down any attractants but i have on many ocasions seen roe around pheasant feeders laced with aniseed ,more so than plain corn .The licks are red herrings in my eyes .If they are there then the deer will lick them but if their not do the deer go looking for them ,i think not .Same with livestock ,they appear interested just because they are there and its something to do .Enough minerals in the browse they take in .
  16. Well done on your comp win mate .Hope to see a few posts up .I would imagine .223 is THE alrounder for you mate .Good luck with it in the future .
  17. Maybe mate ,maybe ,but im skinter than a down and out at the moment .
  18. Just got back to my truck after a fruitless nights lamping and saw this fella come out from underneath my truck and sniff first mine then my mates wellies. He wandered around us and into someones garden ,under that fence behind him but in no hurry having had his rubber fix for the night i guess .I know they sometimes appear stupid when their senses are caught out but this is a first .Perhaps he has a fettish for rubber .Any thoughts Darcy .
  19. I thought it was hare too but following further revealed the true culprit, any more guesses .
