Walking workers loose is a big responsibility for any women alone .The wife comes out walking them ,she will clean and feed if im away but the working and welfare ,including breeding and associated matters are down to me .She does get very attached to the older ones but realises that when the time comes its my job and not the vets .Do feel sorry for some blokes that are well under the thumb but it dosnt last long ,lol.

whats the law on releasing deer
Squirrel_Basher replied to budharley's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Anywhere private requires the land owners permission before entry although the welfare people overlook this on most occasions until found out..The estates i know of would deal with it themselves and despatch or release according to circumstance.Public or council owned land ,highways etc is where the majority of casualties are taken into care from .Indigenous species are to be returned to the wild as soon as they are well enough and at the exact location they were found but as far as im aware muntjac are still non indigenous and supposed to be destroyed if found injured .There are many animals -
When a fox turned out to be a stoat
Squirrel_Basher replied to Stuart1985's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
What some people are trying to say ,indeed worrying about is the lack of basic knowledge from some people who are trusted with guns and worse still trusted by farmers to carry out control of pests with their say so .Before ever thinking about killing an animal many of us feel the need to study its habits ,to know the creature inside out and that goes for me too.How the hell anyone can mistake an animal is beyond me and many others that use the forum.Lucky it was a mink but had that been a pine martin it would still be dead and you would still have posted it wouldnt you because you know no bet -

Nice buck that mate.Have you seen him before?.We must get out soon and catch up . -
If only it was as simple as calling a dog a failure in its first year. Easy to right off a dog that dosnt give its all in the early days but personally i wouldnt be too bothered. The dog needs to be mentally mature before taking to work which is rarely in line with physical maturity which despite what many say is at around 12 months old .Mental maturity ,real maturity occurs from around 14 months onwards but does not necessarily create the right mind set for what we require .A young dog that flies in and does a few minutes at top speed before coming out is usually not ready and i would definate

If you havent the stomach for shooting cats then youve no right to be trapping them .Some of the questions on here are beyond me .If you are asked to do a job either payed or unpayed then either do it or pass it on .Cats are very easy to trap but the problem should not be transferred anywhere else .trap then shoot and bury .

Our computers been up the creek big time but finally got the hang of using the daughters laptop. The end of July i was lucky enough to shoot this cracking buck from a high seat on one of my pieces of ground.Sat there until the last vestiges of decent light were gone and decided id better head back to the truck . i had the buttalo and as i stepped on the first rung to descend ,i squeaked the call in my pocket to which a buck came running through the hedge that the high seat is situated in .Dont know whether it was coincidence or what because as far as i was concerned at that time the rut ha

Not knocking the lad for trying the spot as its maybe his only type of work BUT it seems there is a contingent of terriermen in this country that want to risk the lives of their so called pride and joy for the sake of proving a point or bravado .There is nothing brave or big about risking the life of a proven worker .There is much said about the staying ability of a terrier and rightly so but to test this to extreme knowing it could go either way shows little respect for these gallant workers ,several hours beneath the turf is test enough for any terrier .I admire the men who dig all day on a

Mate .Blood trailing is very easy to teach incorporated with a treat of ofal .ANY dog with an ounce of work about it will take to it well ,its the end result when they find it that seperates the purpose bred dogs from the allrounder .Lay a blood trail ,about a metre apart out of sight of the dog and then take him on it with a lead ,giving him a reward when hes reached the end .Really is that simple ,Until recently i had a lurcher that excelled at it with no training at all but sadly shes on her way out .A gun dog of any breed is ideal for this work believe me .
