  1. Used to be at all the time but dont own ferrets anymore .Miss it really but you cant do it all and do it properly .Ferrets can and do get injured according to the temperament of the individual .Its easy to lump all ferrets in the same can but far from it .Some ferrets like to mix it as well as some terriers but some will turn their backs the same as straight baying terriers .Bites sometimes result in an abcess if not cleaned well which means a trip to the vet .Good ratting ferrets are generally those that wont fight a rat and come out to re~enter elsewhere.Never lost a ferret in active duty
  2. According to my vet ,it is possible .I reared a mink years ago from a kit saved from the mink hounds when they dug a bitch with a litter.Jill ferret reared it after a bit of trickery on my part .The mink lived with the ferrets in a big aviery for 3 seasons before someone cut the wire but even though she came into oestrus at the same time as the jills ,she was never covered to my knowledge. She was tame but 10 times faster than a ferret.Ran up your cloths easily to sit on your shoulder .Guarded food very noisely to. Cant see any sane person advertising the mating to be honest .
  3. Not ready to hang up the bins yet mate
  4. the lads got a taste his first blood.....surely?? well done to the lad ......did you face paint as its his first like they do on the reds for first timers.....lol Never really felt the need for all that mate and not sure it adds anything to the moment either.Once saw a young un blooded out with hounds and we never saw him again ,lol.
  5. Another list of to the point answers. No~one can accuse you lads of beating about the bush .
  6. Personally i would question this story for the simple reason that roe ,even when birthing twins will birth them apart from each other and ive never ever found more than one newborn in a squat .Its a survival thing so that if one is found the other may survive .When they are up and following they may sit together but bit early for that yet.Sorry mate but i dont believe it.Ive seen triplets a few times and its not that commen in my experience and can only be proved when the young are well up and following ..
  7. Been a while coming after a few blanks but well worth the wait .Getting pestered now as to when we are out next .Thanks for all the comments chaps
  8. Down the dealers mate with the money in his back pocket .
  9. Friday evening saw myself and my son heading out for what was to be his first proper stalk. The weather and wind were perfect for where i had in mind ,a farm of 300 acres on the outskirts of a town.Id previously seen three bucks here with a handful of does and the chances of finding one were enhanced by the weather .We set off up the farm track away from the buildings having nodded to the farmer washing down the yard after milking .The time was 7.30 .The first field that held a buck and doe previously now held cattle so required no more than a glance before heading off to what is known as the
  10. In my yard ,theoretical or not a useless bitch wouldnt be alive to breed from .Couldnt be arsed to read it all and sorry if its been said but that covers all defects i find .

  15. I think you are all reading too much into the ALQ thing .It is just that ,whatever is legal with that quarry at that time ,no more no less .It does open up an area for boar to be shot with a .243 though which i intend to make the most of .
  16. Good to see you have the rat problem fully under control mate and the roaches didnt show .Only kidding mate ,see you later .
  17. For those of us whos passion is hunting and not paper punching then the 100 yd and an inch over is all you require .Note i said hunting and not long range sniping .I set mine to these standards and rarely go wrong but each to their own .
  18. Ive personally never held with the suggested cull percentages given out by the deer bodies .I shoot mainly roe and the rate at which they infill is astonishing to the point that if its in season i will shoot it .Contrary to the widespread belief concerning genetics ,there is no drop in quality at all from this type of control that i can see. From what i can see ,there are pockets of deer around me ,namely fallow that are jealously guarded to the point where they are untouchable ,leading to increased road traffic accidents and nocturnal crop raiding .Its these places that need to get thier house
  19. The vision of you struggling under all that firepower is daunting mate .Take the 308 that will do all before it then some.Any reds showing mate .?
  20. So BBs for fox then .Glad we agree, lol. .Cheers tegater
