    Im off to the states soon and will be stacking up on clothes and small items .Like a kid in a sweet shop over there ,dont know where to start .Would like to know more about the import of firearms and scopes as they really are very cheap compared to here .

    Saturday afternoon saw more rain but Matt came up anyway .Martin was invited too but the weather put paid to his trip im guessing . We set off about 5 to get to a place that ive not stalked all season but seen the odd doe when lamping.     Yesterday evening saw me down in Somerset with an anxious look at the skies .The week has been a total wash out at work and im well behind but i hoped that maybe a break in the rain would allow us to do a bit of stalking .I took Martin the buck shot earlier in the week and after getting that in the larder it appeared to be dry enough for a look out .Martin drove to one of my favourite spots of his ,a dell set in a valley or a small valley within a valley for those not familiar with the word .We glassed the top fields from the road and could clearly see a deer on one of the top pastures ,a doe

    The longer version ,lol goes like this .Tuesday evening i decided to have a look over one of my furthest permissions and took RC along as hes as keen as .The first field held a brace of does that skipped through the hedge to the next field ,not spooked by us i might add but playfull it seemed .The next field saw the reason why .A young buck was chasing a young doe up the far hedge and they in turn had brought the other two through that we were watching.This time of year i find is full of chasing and sizing up so nothing new going on here .The young spiker chased all three through a gap to th

    Agree mate but im only repeating what the feo told me in conversation and as a laymen i am going to believe it arnt i .It may be something to do with the current deer poaching that is going on .If hes lying or made it up then he will be brought to task i can assure you as another mate with more time and persistance has just been told the same . Edited to say that its not my intention to mislead anyone just reporting what was said to me by my own feo.

    Whilst trying to remain calm and collected ,its a bit hard when there are a few that think they are the law .I wrote in my post that WILTSHIRE FAD expect certain conditions to be met and i can fully understand it too .The condition on anyones firearm certificate unless otherwise stated is that if you have a DESIGNATED .22 CF calibre for fox then a deer rifle will not be legal to use at night .By checking it out i mean ask the question to your FEO .I have fox on the .243 as do hundreds of others which is why i was shocked by this finding .Before you take things for granted then its better to f

    Big cat that mate and story which is hard to take in ,but i know nothing is clear cut in nature and knowing you well i take it as gospel .See you soon mate for a look out .Edited to say that cat looks very comfortable with the fox even near it ,not something that ive seen before as they are arch enemies normally ,even more so than fox and dog ,the two coming in contact more i guess .

    There is no grant for night shooting ,the .22 centre fire,if owned , is your designated fox rifle and lamping is accepted as part of its use but because you own the .22 centre fire ,any lamping done with the .243 or bigger would be illegal because its not your desgnated fox rifle and the FEO looks on its use after dark as deer poaching ,at least in WILTSHIRE anyway .Check it out mate .I was astonished too .     By the same argument ,Hunter Zero,i would say that if a person dosnt have access to a mentor then the dsc courses should not be a quick fix from classroom to field as they now are .You see ,as soon as the dsc entered the equation then time served became unnecessary ,something to be sneered at and dont say otherwise because ive seen it .Stalking has been a natural progression for me as it will have been for thousands of others from that first rabbit to taking a red stag on the Scottish moors .There is more likely hood of a fault being made from a chap whos only just taken up the sport to one wh

    Whatever calibre is chosen its important to get totally used to this new rifle before taking it out on quarry .The argument for and against any calibre is irrelevant when its your first rifle and no comparison to make .The .243 has served me well allowing me to take all six but then again i dont know anything different .In the scheme of things what does it matter if a beast runs on a bit ,its clinically dead anyway if shot properly.The follow up is as much part of the experience as is the stalking in, to me .Too many enthusiasts of a particular calibre trying to impose their enthusiasm on oth
