  1. Till you have had a Talpex go off on your fingers you aint lived MT...........now THAT does make you squeak a bit. Mk 6 Fenns........as well.........twice that has happened.........that REALLY makes your digits tingle. Rolfe.
  2. I set so fine.........the pin only has to move a fraction to trigger...........never yet had a problem with earth or stones stopping the firing of the trap.........if you use fine soil from a mole hill and don't compact it........it works well. Rolfe.
  3. Definately Tapeworm mate...........seen hundreds Rolfe.
  4. Yes that would explain it mate..........i set mine so fine that NO part of the pin protrudes through the hole....i want it to fire on a hair-pin trigger. Regards........Rolfe. Just had another thought.........maybe you are leaving the tongue a little too high above the bottom of the run, so the mole is getting right under before triggering the trap. Try keeping it a bit lower to the ground and i think this may solve the problem. Rolfe.
  5. Cooking will kill all tapeworms as these are usually found in the intestines which are thrown out anyway. Tapeworm cysts are often found on the meat portions of the rabbits and these too are killed by thorough cooking and or freezing. I regularly feed my dogs raw rabbit MEAT but only after freezing for a few weeks to ensure no tapeworm is passed on. Rolfe.

  7. I once had a couple of goldfish.........the first was named "One" and the other was named "Two" I worked on the principal that if One died..........I'd still have Two Rolfe.
  8. Hi Steve, This picture shows the same trap as in the other pictures when i pulled it from the ground this morning. You will have to trust me that the picture hasn't been doctored in any way and this was how the mole was trapped. You will see it has been trapped very much across the front end, and death would have been vitually instant, due to the powerful spring mechanism. This is how 99% of my moles are caught when using the Talpex trap, so i can't understand how you are catching so many towards the rear end. Best Regards Rolfe.
  9. Yes..............if i use a scissor mole trap, i always fill the centre ring with earth.........this is how i was taught to do it. Regards......Rolfe.
  10. All my Talpex come from www.killgerm.com I know they are the genuine article from this outlet and not some cheap foreign import. Another tip when the traps are brand new is to lightly rough up the end of the trigger pin, (where it fits into the location hole on the tongue) with a small file. This stops the pin slipping out of the hole when setting the trap........as it is prone to do until the traps are truly weathered. Rolfe.
  11. Thanks for the input lads...........its interesting. I am of the opinion that the spring on the Talpex is so powerful that death must be pretty instant the moment the jaws lock.... and most of my catches are towards the front end rather than the back.........so i don't understand why you are getting so many catches around the abdomen......very interesting though. Rolfe.
  12. As there has been a lot of discussion on the Talpex just lately, i thought it may be of interest to the newcomers out there to show how to go about setting this very versatile trap. If you look at the pictures the trap is placed into the mole run in an upright position and not at 45 degrees as is the manufacturers recomended method. Setting the trap this way, leaving the tongue sitting just under an inch from the bottom of the run, forces the mole to push underneath rather than squeeze around the sides. If after setting the trap it is completely filled in with earth (from a nearby mole hill) t
  13. Well done on the use of the traps in awkward situations.......but it seems as if you have gone too a lot of hard work to achieve your goal. With the squirrel in the roof space, a cage inside the loft or out in the garden on it's access route will prove just as effective in trapping squirrels. All trapping methods should be as simple and as uncomplicated as possible (in my opinion) so why over complicate things? Besides, there is always the safety factor to take into consideration when working off ladders or at heights. That said, if all else fails then the methods you have used may be the on
  14. Eggs and broken eggs presented in the form of a dummy nest will catch magpies and crows all year round. Yes they increase there attractivness during the nesting season (like me ) but will catch at other times too. All of the corvid family will help themselves to a free meal if the situation allows, so restricting the use of eggs as an attractant to catch your call bird to just the nesting season seems a wasted oppourtunity to me. As with all trapping......experimenting with different baits at different times of the year will bring the best results. Rolfe.

  16. The Kania 2500 differs from the 2000 in as much as it doesn't have the box on the back....Therefore it needs setting in a cubby or tunnel to comply with the law as stated. http://www.kania.net/2500.htm Rolfe.
  17. I use a combination of the two methods............i work my ferrets without collars as a rule BUT always have a couple of collars to hand.......... if i get a lay up i can send a ferret with a collar to locate the kill. It has worked for me for many years now and i seldom have to dig. Rolfe.
  18. Well there's NO way I would turn gay..............I couldn't stand blokes rejecting me as well Rolfe.
  19. I am having great success now the ferreting season is effectively over, using cage traps in clients gardens to remove entire families of rabbits. The youngsters are easy to catch and there natural inquisitiveness often means they will enter the cages without the added attraction of a food source. Just this week i had a doe and 3 kits in the same cage. My question to fellow full-time pesters out there is.......What methods do you use to remove rabbits from domestic garden situations if ferreting is not an option? Your thoughts would be most welcome.
