  1. Haven't seen the add but sounds like the Jeff Burrell one..........there was a post on here discussing his dogs a week back.........dig it out and have a look............then come to your own conclusions. Like every lurcher breeder he breeds good, bad, indifferent, and anything in between..........! You pay your money and make your choice i'm afraid.........just be aware that expensive doesn't always mean good.
  2. Best picture of Chid i have seen yet......... My Caption.........." Hey..........its that little blue kid that lost me my job as a lifeguard"
  3. Had 10 Greys in two days............two lots of kits in roof spaces..........really well grown so made it easy........all in cages.
  4. Steve.......i push the traps up inside the tunnels and they sort of "cut themselves in" for a nice tight fit. Any loose soil i just leave covering the traps.......and also let some soil fall over the trigger bar to disguise it a little. I am experimenting with different settings as well..........until i find the most productive method of all. Rolfe.
  5. There were rear prints but very indistinct............so couldn't get decent picture of them.........but it could be a dog stoat. I just like wondering what the creature was and what it was up too.........just facinated by prints thats all........always have been.
  6. Just measured the penny Ditch........20mm across mate The things i do eh !
  7. One on the window cill last month...........beautiful aren't they?
  8. Found this small set of front footprints this morning whilst checking mole traps........in a sand pile alongside a wood. Any guesses would be welcome.........i am open to suggestions. I honestly am not sure but they do look "ferret" like...........and there are some ferals around here....but maybe a bit small so was thinking along the lines of a stoat maybe?
  9. I am fitter than she is , half hour & she is puffing & panting wanting to come back Can't beat half hours puffing and panting Kay...
  10. Wow.........that trigger mechanism is something else..............thats a novel set-up.........given me some ideas that Ditch. Thanks for the pics mate.........very interesting as always. So..........what cage have i got then...........is it a copy of some other type? Rolfe.
  11. Great pics Steve............i have been using the two traps you sent me in certain situations (where discretion is needed) and i have had some good results......! Rolfe.
  12. Well you both look fit Kay Rolfe.
  13. Not too sure on that one Rolfe but I can say that it is not Young's design and not GILPA either. Young's made a 2 foot trap and a yard long trap, both with steel frames covered with chicken wire - most are named with a small badge. The Gilpa one had rounded entrance holes and the entry into the second compartment was by a floor fitted entrance - not one that elevated like that one in the pic. It must have been a later copy IMO OTC Interesting OTC ...........on another note..........can you remember what that mole-spade went for at auction? I meant to put a commission bid on it.....
  14. Well........sods law i can't find what i was looking for...........but came across this "Sparrow Trap" is it one of Youngs also?...........looks like it...........but i am open to other suggestions if it of some other make.........!
  15. Interesting Ditch.........i will put a picture up soon of what i believe was an old Youngs cage trap.......i'll have to dig it out of the shed first.......can't really remember exactly what it is...........been years since i saw it last. Thanks for the reply though mate. Rolfe.
  16. Just been to a customer convinced he had a mole problem.........turns out it was a Bank Vole. A series of exposed holes always denotes a vole is present.....BUT......as they frequent old mole runs it can often prove misleading. In this case i had removed a mole some months before, and this particular set of runs has now got a Bank Vole as a resident. It is interesting to anyone who is unsure of what signs to look for. Note the well worn and smooth entrance hole.
  17. Just wondered what types and makes of cage traps my fellow pesters out there use? My favourite cage trap for mink or squirrel is without doubt the Fenn.......single and double entry types. The ones i am using at present have seen well over ten seasons use and are still as good as new. They are extremely hard wearing and are virtually indestructable. I have just taken my 750th Grey of this year.......not all in cages obviously, these are spread between shooting (drey poking) Tunnel traps, Kanias and cage traps........the tunnel traps have accounted for 65% i suppose. The cage in the picture is
  18. See if you can find where the fox comes in from BEFORE it reaches the pen.......if it is coming from next doors orchard it may well be a better place to place a wire to catch him. Usually they will approach using the same route (run) every time. Rolfe.
  19. Its soul destroying to witness the aftermath of such an attack........I have been called out many times to deal with the culprits responsible for such carnage be they fox or mink......and it isn't easy dealing with distraught customers be they adults or children. All i can say is.........the fox will return in a very short while........and there should be a snare, cage trap or gun waiting for it.. Good luck .........and I hope you can sort the problem out before considering restocking. Rolfe.
  20. Had to clear a few rabbits this morning.........no rabbits but found these lovely Horse/Wood mushrooms........both edible so i will enjoy a fry-up later.
  21. Yes i agree with trappa................i will only advise if i think i can help someone trap more humanely.....IE if they are getting foul catches. All other tricks of the trade i will keep close to my chest to stay one jump ahead of my competitors. Rolfe.
  22. Find Woodga's profile on here and send him a PM..........
  23. As John B said..........No one should be trapping any animal unless they have the "Means and Knowledge" to dispatch the trapped animal quickly and HUMANELY. Shooting is the only quick and humane way of dealing with a cage trapped fox in my opinion...........unless you want to take an expensive trip to the vets. Rolfe.
  24. Have a good one Lass.......... Enjoy Rolfe.
  25. Haven't seen a bunch of dead nettles that big for long while...........its amazing what you can find when out for a walk. Rolfe.
