  1. When you say that it doesn't seem to be working, what exactly do you mean? Is the bait being eaten? Are you using enough? What bait is it? You also don't say what part of the country you are in. Some areas have resistant strains of rats and the most appropriate active ingredient will depend on where you are. As Pete has suggested; a few Fenns, or break backs should clear up the last few following a baiting programme and will also act as protection from reinfestation.
  2. Teeth are far too good for it to be me....
  3. Duty bound to tell you that adding anything to a pre-mixed rodenticide is not only dangerous, but also illegal. The best bait for trapping depends partly on where you are baiting. Chocolate and peanut butter is not alot of use in the countryside because the rats don't know what they are. I had good success with the Bell Provoke product on break backs, but have also had a good few with lard and good whole maize.
  4. The Belisles certainly are a good trap. One word of warning though.... Pete is in Ireland where there are different rules and regs around trapping. Are the Belisles listed on the Spring Trap Approval Orders for use in the UK?? When you buy an approved trap in the UK part of the profit from that trap was initially invested in getting them approved for use here
  5. I'd like to nominate Joe54 for the member posting the most pointless and stupid thread award.
  6. Keep working and give him time. Four months old is nothing.
  7. 10 months is nothing. He's still a babe. Good job done though
  8. There's an article on here somewhere showing simple swivels and anchoring systems by the legend Glen Waters. Have a dig around.
  9. 2.8; Your own avatar actually reminds me of what's dinging on the back of my mind, as I read all this. While the average predators hearing is pretty acute, their sense of smell is astronomical. Everyone, this side of the Atlantic, jabbers on about trap location and baits. Yet, I virtually never hear about Scent Lures ~ beyond a bit of fox piss. The Yanks are past masters of all this. They're still teaching their children ways that we forgot over a century ago. Trap location? Hah! Those guys routinely set a 'Gin Trap', deliberately, so that the fox will put his right or left, fr
  10. Two posts deleted for text talk. Warnings will follow
  11. Yeah, but; It'll end up full of f**king Bats! And sheepdogs..........
  12. So the minute you take a photo your being disrespectful? Nonsense. That is NOT what I am saying at all. It's quite possible to have pictures of your quarry that are respectful; we see lots on here and in magazines all of the time. Equally, we all know of cases where people have had little or no respect for their quarry. Baiting, dumping etc. I agree. Providing any photo is legal, and respectful, then I have no problem with it at all. Sometimes it's nice to have an explanation for each picture, but you can't have everything I suppose
  13. Nothing could be further from the truth. Plenty of people who break the law still manage to respect their quarry, while some who purport to stay within the law have no respect whatsoever.
  14. Pictures of quarry are great as long as they are respectful. If you have no respect for the quarry you have no respect for the sport. Just my opinion guys
  15. All this does is remind me of the Rentokil Radar system which gasses mice and sends a message to the technician telling him there is mouse activity. Money for old rope. Not my scene anymore, but I can see the business advantages of it.
  16. put your pictures of your tally up it a hunting website after all or did you loose your camera I don't think anyone has to prove anything with or without photos. Enjoy your sport and don't worry what people think about you. That's always been my philosophy anyway
  17. Locked while I edit some crap out. Unlocked (for now). Play nicely or not at all please fellas
  18. its perfctly legal where he's based mate Where did I suggest it wasn't?
  19. I agree with Stabba in general, but I'm not too fond of seeing pictures of dogs ragging quarry. The problem with pictures like this is that they get lifted and posted out of context elsewhere. Does any body else remember the pre digital photography days? Lads and Lasses didn't feel the need to take pictures of everything back then... Oh, one more thing, please, please stop using text talk. So far I've deleted 7 posts from this thread that contain text talk. Warning points will follow if I have to delete any more.
  20. Here you go: Click this link for Humane Killers New Cash Special is £802 + delivery.
  21. like mat said be careful with the eastern European gear the quality is no where near that of the cash range Defra bought a load of those long black jobbies that use the 9mm blanks during FMD 2001. They sent them back in the end because they fell apart in no time and everyone thought they were difficult to use and dangerous. The Cash Special is a fantastic tool in the right hands, but because of that they are like rocking horse shit second hand.
  22. I suppose there is nothing to beat 'doing it yourself' sometimes, but you could've bought a few decent traps for the cost of all the time and materials. Still, the satisfaction from making something and seeing it work is always good.
  23. You'll find anything decent hard to come by. There were a load of cheapie eastern european things kicking around a couple of years ago, but they are crap. A second hand Cash will cost you £350+ if you can find one, and some of the older models are around but spares are impossible to get hold of. Entwistle guns have the odd one in second hand and supply new ones and pith canes etc. Any particular reason you want captive bolt? A .410 will cost alot less and is easier to use.
  24. Rather than having a page half full of pinned topics, I thought it may be handy to have a locked thread with links to interesting threads and frequently asked questions. Any requests, please PM me and I'll add to the list of links. 25. It depends on which gun it is. I had a hushpower single barrel .410 for years. It was a good little tool and was based on a spanish single barrel. A couple of years ago I chopped it in against a new Mossburg Stealth. Of the two, the stealth is definitely better, and based on the rugged and reliable Mossburg it's my most frequently used gun. Both get very dirty very quickly and can cause problems if they are not kept clean. The Mossburg is easier to strip down and clean which is a big plus in my book.
