'Commercial Sample' Pete And a black trap is nigh on invisible from a distance.... Just my take on it.

Matt I am really chuffed for you. This may be a stupid question, but here goes, how do they keep themselves clean like the one in the photo? TC It wasn't actually that clean.............. Funny thing is, when I opened that run up yesterday it was full of water... of late, I suppose partly due to the weather conditions, I've been setting lots of traps in flooded runs... it sounds mad, but they seem to catch well... anyway, as I sloshed towards the trap today I fully expected the run to be submerged, but thinking back now, I couldn't tell you if it was or not! I pulled the trap

There are two colour choices; black or brown. I like the black...

It would indeed cover the cost if it wasn't for the fact that although she's 100 miles away from me my wife still manages to spend money before I've earned it....... 'Blanco' will be living in a freezer until I can afford to have someone give him justice..

Personally, I have a real 'thing' for Speed Dip from the US. It colours, protects and waxes all in one......

I'll make some inquiries.... Thanks Pete!

Thanks guys. She's a little shit... Now a pet more than anything else she comes to work with me all the time. It causes her great amusement to grab the moles in the traps and pull them out as I push down the catching loops. Then, in true terrier fashion she gives each one a shake and jumps onto the bike with it. As I pull up to each trap she jumps off the bike and stands over it telling me clearly if there's a mole waiting for me... Yes, as soon as I've got together some pennies, I'll be after a decent taxidermist.

Posted elsewhere, so I thought I'd share it with you guys as well. I've had a good week on the moles, but today topped it all: First time for me after 35 years of molecatching.

This is a whole 'other' ballgame.... Historically, pest control waste has (in the main) been treated as 'controlled' waste (the same as garden waste etc). It's now been reclassified as 'hazardous' waste, meaning much tighter restrictions, more expensive disposal, and a huge pile of paperwork. No reason for the change other than some misguided civil servants thinking they're saving the planet by creating an even more complex paper trail. Complete and utter nonsense that just makes me relieved I just trap moles now. Thankfully, dead wild animals (unless they contain rodenticide) ar

Woodga on here made a good film about snaring and also sells snares. The film, and various snare materials are also available from fourteenacre. Google it. There are also articles on snaring on the forum and various threads. Do a forum search and you'll find all the information you need.

Any Mole Trappers Near Dorchester ........

Try Cereal Catcher over on UKPCO. Wellbottom by any chance? -
Cold smoked meat always keeps longer than hot smoked.... I've got one somewhere. I think it's a 'Ratattack' jobbie... produces masses of foul smelling smoke quickly and quietly... I may be persuaded to part with it soon. I need a good clearout of junk before I move.

The list is a long one.... The Barn Owl Trust The Health and Safety Executive The RSPB The Guild of British Molecatchers The RSPCA and many others.... Who's defending it? The NPTA The BPCA CRRU NGO APMC Don't really want to cross post, but there is lots on the NPTA sponsorship of the GBM over on UKPCO.

There's another school of thought that says that the more the gap widens between the legitimate, trained, qualified, and insured pest controller, and the cowboy element who don't have the same overheads, the bigger the saving to the potential customer..... Food for thought, eh? My personal thoughts are that the ideal happy medium is combining the new with the old. Let's be honest about this; poisoning rats is not a new fad; for nearly as long as man has developed 'engines' to catch pests, he's also made various noxious substances to poison them The old hands on here like Outlaw P

What the freedom of information response actually said was: "3 separate observations of shot badgers twitching and shaking for a short period of time being shot (CS1 & CS3). No way to know for certain whether this was just post mortem muscle spasm or a still conscious badger in the final throws" And just look at the fuss they are making about it.

In truth, while I see 'freeshooting' as a useful tool, I think the primary control method needs to be cage trapping. The latest plans involve farmer led culling in hotspot areas with additional testing in 'edge' areas. In reality, TB is spreading fast and it won't be long before those 'edge' areas become hotspots. The plans are based on a 25 year strategy to beat TB. Personally, I think that individual farms that go down with confirmed TB should be able to be licenced to cull all the badgers on that farm. Combined with strict biosecurity and movement controls, we may then see a r

'Chink' I'll drink to that.... -
Specific. Can't say more than that, but if anyone gets the opportunity, go for it BUT...... only commit if you are prepared to work hard. There's lot's of support; part of my role was mentoring the local contractors. Cull companies are being discussed and set up in TB hotspots. If you aren't in a TB hotspot, forget it.
-
That is the kind of common sense approach that most want. Sadly, it won't happen. And for those of you who are rubbing your hands together and thinking that there could be sporting opportunities; forget it. Any culling in our lifetimes will be done under licence, by trained and qualified contractors. For some strange reason the public think that badgers are rare and harmless. Neither is true, but the badger continues to get cult worship by some.

There was a great performance by Phil and Den on Breakfast TV this morning. I've only just watched it myself, but May looks like the crank he is....

Rats In A Loft

None of them are as nice as Swan My ferrets won't touch mole. I have thousands of the feckers to dispose of, and even with the jackets off they won't even look at them What an interesting thread this has turned into? -
It would be rude of me not to thank you all for your kind words, so Thank You from me and at least one other contractor who I'm pretty sure is reading this.
-
I'm not sure what you mean, but one point I would make is that the culling operations were not hunting in the sporting sense. It was a carefully managed culling operation more akin to a military operation than a sporting adventure. The local contractors worked hard, for little or no financial reward (in fact it cost some of them quite a lot of money) both day and night and some of them held down their normal jobs at the same time. They not only worked hard, but maintained a professional demeanour in the face of at times, extraordinary pressure from some very vocal, and often violent

It's a good question. To their credit, this cull was much easier than the RBCT because it was carried out by a private company who are not obliged to release information like a government department. Social media had a big impact; the antis used it to good effect to organise opposition. Even without NE leaks they would have found us and when they did they mobilised themselves to cause the maximum disruption to operations. The job itself was actually done very efficiently and at a relatively low cost compared to previous culling operations. Sadly, the poor standard of policing at
