  1. No. It's illegal to 'take' game birds at night. It's also against forum rules to use text talk.
  2. Do your own research if you don't believe me, but here is one quote for you: Ignorance is no defence in law. Please remember that any posts relating to illegal activities will be removed with no explanation, and that posters will be warned using the forum warn system.
  3. Welcome aboard Rocky65! I take it your trapping season starts soon, you must be looking forward to getting out, and setting some traps! There is no trapping season over here! As said already, most trapping done in this part of the world, is done to keep problem species in check! When it comes to gray and red squirrel, unfortunately there is no natural ballance occurring here, and red squirrel numbers are very low, and grays are everywhere! Therefore, we must trap gray squirrel all year round, to try and reduce numbers,! Or ideally, eradicate them altogether! No hope of that I'm afrai
  4. Who on earth told you that? There is NO legal requirement to check traps every 12 hours in the UK.
  5. It's also illegal to 'take' certain birds at 'night'. Night is defined as one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise (Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981).
  6. It wasn't aimed at any particular member Having said that, I have just removed one thread that was clearly about taking pheasants off roost at night
  7. The open season for Pheasants is now on, but I thought this may be a good opportunity to remind newer members that whilst it is perfectly legal to 'take' pheasants and other game with a catapult, you must make sure that you have the landowners permission, and that taking pheasants at night by any means is illegal. Please make sure that any forum posts reflect that fact and refrain from posting about illegal activities like using a lamp to take pheasants off roost at night. Thank you.
  8. The law doesn't prescribe what, exactly constitutes a 'tunnel'. If you are in any doubt, I'd suggest erring on the side of caution, especially as people who decide on prosecutions of this type read this forum nearly every day. A day off Mickey? No. But unlike some, my life is more than THL and I'm not here every minute of every day.
  9. As it uses a chemical (gas) to kill, it would need approval under COSHH (or Biocides or PPD) just like the Rentokil Radar unit. The Nooski was voluntarily submitted for approval under the STAO by the manufacturer.
  10. OK guys, a good topic seems to have 'wandered' somewhat.... To the two fellas who are long standing members, both of whom I respect; please take it to PM. To Liam, please stop using bloody text talk! I've got better things to do with my time than removing posts that contain illegible text talk and 'ganstar' language. Save it for faceache fellah; it's not wanted or allowed here. As for squirrels, I'm not expert, but I've done a bit. Take a look at the (crap) films I've put on youtube this summer, or do a search on here.
  11. As you are legally obliged to set traps for rabbits either 'within the overhang' of a burrow, or in another natural or man made tunnel, it should not be possible for the quarry to be thrown clear of the jaws. Many years ago I had a conversation with Mr Fenn himself about some foul catches I'd been having. He correctly diagnosed almost immediately that my tunnel roofs were too high. The Fenn was designed to work 'against' a tunnel roof. That would depend on who exactly owns the fence, and were exactly the boundary is. Whilst you have a 'duty of care' to check traps set fo
  12. As others have already suggested, the Nooski and the Talpirid have got to be serious contenders, as is most of the scrap imported from the far east and sold to the unwitting. Mole, Rat and Mouse traps, not being regulated like other spring traps are easily the worst in general; but I suspect some of the stuff that was tested by MAFF prior to the ban on gins was pretty awful.
  13. Imbras are still my favourite rabbit trap. I fitted new springs to all of mine a couple of years ago and treated them all to a 'Speed Dip'. It's made them even better. Imbras were named after the Imber Ranges on Salisbury Plain where they were originally tested (Imber + Rabbit = Imbra).
  14. Over the years I've spoken to, and met, lot's of pest controllers. Steve stands out as one of the most genuine nice guys of them all. Sadly missed.
  15. 'Advises' ?? What happens if they refuse, or just don't bother? Who's liable? The person who applied the pesticide.... Whenever I see posts like this I'm reminded of why I refuse to have anything to do with bees these days

I saw a quote the other day.... : "Israel uses rockets to protect it's people, while Hamas uses people to protect it's rockets" Whatever the rights and wrongs of it all, it's not our war and we should keep out of it.
  17. I don't know about everyone else, but I've had enough of these topics lately. Locked.
  18. Link to this thread now added to FAQ topic
  19. It was removed by a moderator, with good reason.
  20. Window cleaners and all the others have been at it for decades. To suggest that wasps are dying out because so many people are at it is just silly. Some years are better than others. It's always been the same. As for hornets; I don't think that pest controllers specifically target them in bad wasp years... the phone rings, and you try and solve pest problems... I don't know about them not being aggressive either; I've found them to be nearly as bad as Germans. Oh, and before I forget, don't worry about upsetting the couple of miserable buggers on here either; this forum has
  21. As was I; to a degree The thing is, whilst I don't doubt what other people say about the springs on the Fenns, personally, I've not had a problem with them I'm happy to buy products from abroad when there's no alternative, but I also find that buying a 'knock off' of a good british designed and built trap leaves a foul taste in my mouth As I said earlier, it's just me and my weird sense of patriotism and honour, but I wouldn't want to dirty my hands on a copy of a copy of a good British product. Having said that, I don't condemn those that choose differently If it works
  22. The Solway traps are made in China. That, in itself, is enough to stop me wanting them, better springs or not. I like to spend my money in the UK on UK made products whenever possible; it's just my opinion and I'd not condemn others for buying foreign stuff.
  23. I don't think that's any different to any other internet forum OTC.... opinions are like arseholes; everyone has one, but some stink more than others.... I've been on various forums since 2001, and as time has gone on, people have got more and more opinionated and less and less tolerant of others BUT...... that shouldn't stop anyone from posting ....... having said that, there are thousands of good folks out there who wouldn't dream of posting their exploits anywhere on the net..... not because of what others may or may not say, but because it's just not their thing....
  24. Pricing themselves out of the market, or pushing up the value of pest control? It's certainly food for thought Years ago, I was charging £15 to do wasps. At that time, Rento were charging £40 - £60, and I was cheap at a quarter of their price....... Their price crept up........ within 10 years it was £75 - £125 and I'd doubled my price to £30..... These days, most pest controllers are charging £40 - £60 and they are creeping their prices up...... It makes you think doesn't it? They lead, the rest of us follow, picking up the crumbs along the way and always trying to
  25. Funny you should say that I can't remember the last time anyone mentioned Wild Boar and their control in this section Anyway, as much as I love the trapping and snaring posts (the interesting ones anyway) always bear in mind the title of this section; it's 'Snaring, Trapping and Pest Control'. Whilst I'm not actively involved in the conventional pest control world at present, I see no reason why those who are should feel somehow 'second class' to those who trap and snare exclusively, either for a hobby, or to earn a crust In fact, looking around, I see no more or less 'poison' based
