  1. It's not difficult or expensive However, cider kits are nowhere near as good as the 'real deal'....
  2. Couple of questions for you Jamie: What sort of yeast did you use? What was the OG of the juice, and what is the SG now?
  3. Personally, no, I'd not bottle it yet. Keep an airlock on, and wait. Don't forget the old boys used to say that you shouldn't touch it until you hear the first cuckoo in the spring. I was always told to leave it for at least as long as it took to brew to mature. The stuff I pressed at Michaelmas has been racked once and is still chugging (OK, a glug a few times a day) and will be racked again after Christmas. If you find yourself in North Devon give me a bell and you can see my set up.
  4. That would make a good video Old V new? As the skin has no value these days, it is pointless trying to keep it whole. TC Old v new would perhaps interest some? Whilst there is no financial value to skins these days, it would be nice to see the skills shared before they are lost.
  5. Don't rush to bottle. My 15 gallons for this year is still brewing away (albeit slower than it was)and will continue to do so into the new year. When it's finished I'll rack it off again and taste it in case I need to adjust the sweetness. It'll then get 3 months to mature.
  6. You are correct. However, if an animal was to be found suffering, you could have to explain to a magistrate why you thought it wouldn't cause 'unnecessary suffering' in the event of a foul catch. Personally, I think it's good practice to check kill traps every day, although it's not a legal requirement unless they have been set for rabbits or hares.
  7. I presume they've improved the Solway? When they first came out they were slated on here for the quality issues they had.... Personally, I prefer a trap made here in the UK over a product produced in a sweat shop in the far east.
  8. Just pour a kettle full of boiling water over your new traps to remove the protective film of oil on them. The best place to 'weather' any new trap is the place you intend using it.
  9. Disused rabbit bury? Have you considered: Gassing? Blocking the holes and then using Fenns in any that open up (you could use Mk4's as you'd be targeting rats)? Blocking and then baiting any holes that have obviously been re-opened by rats? Remember the old adage about 'removing harbourage'. Disused rabbit burys are as much harbourage as a pile of old crud that's been discarded. Just some thoughts...
  10. Personally, I've had good results with Fenn Mk4s in tunnels. You can add a bit of 'attractant' by stripping the breast skin off a killed bird and sticking it on the plate. Others may well have better suggestions.
  11. Watch your quantities It's hard to tell from the pictures (no perspective), but you need to make sure that bait points don't exceed the amount on the label. The only other consideration is removal at the end of treatment. I'd personally use the larger white trays wherever possible: easy to replenish, easy to remove. An alternative is to use small squares of fertiliser sack to prevent contamination of the ground by bait.
  12. That's not actually true. Some of go back to a time before the plastic bait box. R started it off as a revenue generating idea. They got people to pay for 'disinfestation' and then sold them the theory of 'perimeter protection' and the plastic boxes that go with it. There is no legal requirement for 'tamper resistant' (note, 'resistant', not 'proof') boxes. The law requires you take 'reasonable' measures to protect bait from non targets. It's been well known and documented, that the safest, and fastest way to reduce rat populations with rodenticide bait is to burrow bait. Ma
  13. I think there are 'issues' at the moment. I keep getting redirected to phishing sites from here. I'll ask Ian...
  14. Expanding foam on it's own would be a waste of time. Personally, I'd 'ball up' some chicken wire and ram it into the holes and then apply some expanding foam to prevent any air flow. A Kania in the right location would probably produce a quick and humane result, but I suspect that people like that would prefer live catch, although you'd have to make it 100% clear from the start that dispatch would be the ultimate fate of the squirrels as required by law. I would avoid trapping in the loft in this situation; people of a more 'sensitive' disposition are more likely to interfere with the
  15. Like most, I started with a .410. First was a little folder, then I had a Norica. Both put plenty of game on the table. 10 years ago I invested in a Hushpower single barrel (not the Baikal). It was a very useful tool on the bunnies, but I wanted something a bit 'more'. I forked out a considerable amount of my 'hard earned' for a Stealth Mossburg 3 shot pump, which is quite awesome. My advice to anyone looking to buy a silenced shotgun is to go for the Stealth rather than the Hushpower.
  16. Some idea of scale may be handy? It's always worth putting a coin, or something well known into a photo like that to help give an idea of the size. In the meantime, I concur; it's definitely shite of some sort......
  17. I'm no longer a member myself, but when I was, I certainly gained some work from it.
  18. Every member of the BTMR is listed on their website, hence the 'register' part of BTMR....
  19. I've got a Falcon FN6 with a crossman laser sight fitted. It's a very handy thing for rats up to 15 yards, and I've shot plenty with it. I rarely use an air pistol for dispatch, but on the odd occasion when I have it's been very effective.
  20. Amazing considering you don't appear on their website!
  21. My patience with you is wearing thin. As I've already said, this isn't up for discussion; if you need legal advice ask a solicitor or do some research online.
  22. No, not 'obviously'. I posted this as a friendly reminder to everyone. I've removed several threads that were clearly about taking Pheasants off roost, and if any more need to be removed then the poster will also receive warning points. This isn't up for discussion lads. Illegal is illegal and is not allowed on here.
