  1. If I missed it, I would say so I do miss working with some good people, and going around some fairly special places.... but do I miss actually complying with all the ridiculous rules and regulations and mountains of paperwork? Do I hell as like.... It's a dangerous place out there these days Everyone is watching your every move, waiting for you to slip up..... One of my (big) contracts demanded I registered with CHAS...... "no thanks".... A site I used to do required 8 forms to be filled in before you even looked around.... "no thanks"..... And now we have the w

  3. You've done well for yourselves matey But don't forget that you had bags of experience, and you probably already had contacts with the industry and potential customers. You'd seen good pest control, and you'd seen bad pest control. You didn't need to enrol yourselves on a plethora of training courses, and you knew how to get out and sell the job. Added to that, 9 years ago the industry was different to today. Less regulation, less restriction and more scope Oh, and less competition Now just to clarify; I've had 25 good years out of pest control. I've enjoyed the major
  4. The BPCA are just one training provider Shop around, as there are now many suppliers of training for the RSPH level 2 qualification. The old 'BPCA' qualifications are long gone Absolutely. As I've said, many times before, passing the RSPH exam will not make anyone a pest controller If you treat your first few customers as a learning exercise to get experience, you are treading a dangerous path I would urge anyone thinking about going it alone to take a step back and have a long hard think about it. If you do want to work in the industry, it's always going to b
  5. Take a look at the mole directory sites like GBM, APMC and of course mole-control.co.uk. I reckon there are quite a few who cover your area, perhaps you just aren't aware of them yet? Why check out the local competition.......... Go one better than them. Its too easy to sit back and say that there are too many Pesties in an area i won't bother. Market yourself correctly and the business will grow....Dont worry about who else is around you. Establishing that there is a market for your business is the first step in any business plan If the area is already saturated wit

Market yourself correctly and the business will grow....Dont worry about who else is around you. Establishing that there is a market for your business is the first step in any business plan If the area is already saturated with pest controllers, it's worth considering whether it's worth investing time, money, blood sweat and tears in a business that is going to struggle.
  7. Classic I knew the 'stick', sorry, I meant Stig, would be along
  8. That was crap....... Ply harder..... Sorry I just thought I'd join in with the 'beeching'
  9. I do hope he's not been 'board'.........
  10. Question:......... is that trap box 'single entry'?? Squirrels like to see an escape route
  11. Even with burrow (Block trapping) at this time of year you got to take the rabbit out the trap and its underside is covered in fly eggs . Maybe thats why he wants to cage trap ?. Good point
  12. Fenn Mk6's, Imbras & Jubys. Often known as 'block' trapping, you can block up the holes you aren't trapping to help increase the chances of the burrows with traps in them being used. One of my future films
  13. Why do you wan't to live catch? Choices are limited at this time of year. Cages work OK, but personally, I'd be burrow trapping
  14. is he getting more wasps nests than you ,,,, Even if he isn't, what he is doing is devaluing the service in that area Most folks are more interested in price than anything else, and even if they don't use the cheapies, they use it as a negotiating point. whats the normal / standard rate ? under cutting happens in every game ..and in some cases pays off from re call and recommendations you need a bread n butter earner that puts your dinner on the table The 'normal' rate is around £40-£50. Having said that, the nationals charge anything up to £200..... Wasps are th
  15. Cheers I'm rather fond of the semi-permanent type sets, where you can just bang in a trap when you are working that area. Covering the cages in a woodland situation is childs play really Just grab a few handfuls of leaves and twigs and carefully place (chuck) them over the cage. The Imbras won't be getting an outing at the moment. They're currently in my stores in Wiltshire, and I'm not sure when I'm next visiting. I've only got a few traps with me down here at the moment because I'm a bit limited for storage. Thanks for the kind comments peeps. Keep your eye on the chann

  17. That's good advice Beware of suppliers and organisations like the NPTA and BPCA trying to sell you expensive training. It's in their interests to get as many people into Pest Control as they can Suppliers get to sell you a whole heap of stuff you'll probably never need, and the organisations get another potential member. Do a google search for your area, and also take a look at the phone books. You won't be competing with the nationals to start off, it'll be the local guys that are either clamouring for the bit of available work, or doing it part time with something else to pr
  18. Yes, it really is that bad. I've been in this game 25 years. I've worked my way up to as near as the top that I could get, and I've worked my way back down again. I'd be telling you porkies if I said that there is no chance of success, but the truth is, it's getting harder and harder out there. Some lads will work hard, sell hard and make a go of it, but most won't. There are very few millionaires made out of pest controllers.
  19. Just added another video from yesterday. Another three out of the cages today
  20. That's why so many give up. Save yourself the heartache, do it as a hobby, and find some other way of feeding yourself.
  21. That 'conspiracy' comment wasn't aimed at you TC.... I think folks need to realise that this place needs revenue to survive
  22. Did you look in dollars or pounds There's nothing like THL for a good old conspiracy theory
  23. I'm lost here..... Why is it a problem? I don't care how many members don't log on, or how often... If it's antis you're worried about, this would make zero difference to them Let's not get hung up on guests or even members reading stuff. Keep it legal, keep it sensible, and nobody has anything to worry about
